I know this is totally offtopic from STEAMGIFTS, but I really need your help :). I want to buy a new phone, and I can't decide which one to choose: The Samsung Galaxy S3 or the HTC One X.

I will start by presenting some facts:
•Both phones obviously have a lot of processing power, both are kind of the same at this part.
•The price does not matter that much, because they cost about the same.

In case you don't know what I'm talking about, please look at this before you vote: http://i.imgur.com/F8crN.png

Feel free to leave comments, and please vote here (it really helps me): http://poll.pollcode.com/tcs7gk

Please argument your decision :)

I'd choose the S3. I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 right next to me and it's working like a charm. I can call and text people, which is pretty much all I need.

Just kidding. The camera is pretty good unless you're a professional photograph, the cpu is fast enough (tho no java), and it looks nice.

Hijacking the first post, but also agreeing.
I have the S3, works like a charm. Only problem I ever had was "com.google.gapps.process" or something kept crashing, which is a sync error with the built-in Internet browser, so if you do get an S3 and have that problem, just turn off Syncing to "Internet".
Otherwise, runs good, feels good, quick boot, really hard to scratch screen, and the back cover can be traded with friends to make a combo White/Blue or Blue/White sexy phone.

Same here, I have an S3, and it's quite wonderful. Apart from the fact that you can't install apps on your external SD card, unless the phone is rooted.

No big deal for me, but thought I'd mention it

I'm an s2 owner so a bit biased (as the s2 is awesome) and would say s3 but I've heard good stuff about the One X as well.

Would say One X. HTC phones tend to be higher quality than Sammy's.

Also, consider the Nexus 4. I've recently got mine and its been a wonderful product.

S3, but grey or pebble blue are better colors :)

The black one is the only one that I like, I find the other colors rather poor...it's a thing of taste :)

S3 because the One X doesn't have SD card slot. What kind of idiocy is that?

That's what I tought too before I felt the need to add another 16Gb to my S2, thinking about updating that to a 32 gb now.

I have used 16GB phones for about 3 years, I don't have that much data...but I see the new games use a lot of space, so you may be right.

s3 for this alone, youd be surprised what games take up, i think dead space took like 2gb? idk something i got recently was 2gb i know for sure lol (s3 runs like a dream)

DISCLAIMER #1: I tinkered a bit with a friend's HTC One X, but i do not own it. I own a S3 but I am migrating to a Nexus 4 as it's Google-supported and as open-source as possible.

DISCLAIMER #2: Sorry, this post got longer than I expected.. But no TL;DR from me :P

Except for some games, most software isn't optimized for Tegra; thus, S3 will effectively perform a bit faster overall. The S3 has AMOLED screen (vibrant colors but awful sharpness) while One X has LCD (better sharpness, but less visibility under sunlight). It's a question of taste, tho.

The user interface on One X resembles Google's standards more closely . TouchWiz does divert from the original Android experience, but it doesn't suck as much as people will complain on forums; it's so feature-rich (Smart Stay / Smart Rotate / Multi-Window) it may be worth it.

S3 also features better battery time on stock configuration. The Tegra CPU/GPU architecture is just so complex compared to Exynos it's hard to get it right; also the S3 features a 32nm chip (compared to One X and its 40nm process). But please note both smartphones can get a generous battery life increase if you do root it and choose a decent ROM / kernel.

Now, if you are an advanced user... One X has the S-On/S-Off problem, while the S3 is way more unbrickable. Developers probably dislike / hate both platforms (bad support from both Samsung and HTC), but S3 seems more hackable nowadays.

Interface is simple to change with custom skins/launchers...so it doesn't matter that much.

Why are you so certain that the iPhone is below others? Do not speak if you do not know what you speak of.

I support the iPhone being a suck cause it's an overpriced piece of hardware shit. Installous is officially gone, Google apps need a seperate app, what more reason to stick with it?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Indeed it is overpriced, but by the way you speak you did not use one. I have used both Android phones and iPhones, and I can say they both have advantages and disadvantages.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I have used both, and the only advantage I would find on first glance is the looks of the phone and OS. Other than that, the OS is impaired compared to Android in areas such as customization.

Personally, I'd scrap both and go for a Nexus 4 (faster, no bloatware and a lot cheaper to buy unlocked). I have one and absolutely love it. But out of those two, I'd go for the S3.

The Nexus 4 is not available here...and it reminds me of Samsung Galaxy Nexus (I had it for like 2 weeks), which I sold because of incredible lag, poorest battery life I've ever seen...I didn't like that phone at all. Poor build quality, mostly laggy, and the battery was so weak, it wouldn't keep me 6/7 hours at school.
And I besides that, I don't trust LG. xD

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ahh ok. Well, I've played around with the old Nexus in the past and the new one is completely different (it is a different manufacturer after all) and miles better. I've had no problem with battery life and there is zero lag, despite me having rooted it and installed tons of apps. LG have done really well with this phone.

Both phones you're considering are great though, but I prefer Samsung's interface to HTC's. Good luck choosing :)

HTC's interface kicks Samsung's ass. Your impulsiveness works against you!

I used to have a HTC Desire (great phone) but I rooted it and installed a custom ROM as soon as I could. Sense = no likey. But the newest Sense UI isn't so bad I suppose. I just prefer stock Android over anything else.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Oh wow, wasn't far off me, I currently a Desire HD. Still with sense but a serious upgrade to the interface using Jelly Bean 4.2. It's like I've got a whole new phone! I don't think I've ever seen stock Android, not sure I want to seeing as I'm so used to sense.

Whatever floats your boat though,

.......................................................................................................................................................................................................even if you betray HTC.

Personally I'd go with the S3 but then again I've got an S2 now so I might be a little bit biased. :P

The S3 has really brought some interesting stuff to the table while keeping the expandability that so many have left out. I find the recent HTC phones lacking in many ways.
