Meh, I still don't comment on giveaway as long as I don't have anything to say beside "thank you" or a really realyy good giveaway in which case I say a big 'thank you'.

i tend to say thank you in giveaways because it shows the person doing the giveaway that atleast i take the time to acknowledge the generosity, rather than just automatically entering things as a matter of 'right'... plus having done a few public giveaways myself, i personally actually like the fact that people take the time to type something - ANYTHING - and hit submit, and acknowledge that there actually IS someone else on the other side of that 'free game'. nothing worse than 200 entries and no one bothering to even say "TY" :(
or maybe thats just me.

That tends to lose its value when hordes of people do it that freely. If something feels like its gratuitous, even a thank you can become meaningless. Personally I think that if you give something away and you're looking for some comment you should write a good description, prompting the participants to say something meaningful.
Also, nobody should make giveaways just to hear people saying "thanks" to them, that'd be sad.

This.
It's just a matter of courtesy, regardless of how "meaningless" it might seem to some. You tell the girl at the coffee shop "Thanks" when she gives you your cup, and she's being paid for it; but someone is giving away a game and people can't even be bothered to say a word?

People still keep arguing about this. No matter what you say, you cannot determine someone elses thankfulness by using your own views. Perhaps you feel guilty if you don't say "thanks", but that is your way of seeing things, not ours. Also, the coffee shop comparison is not valid, because you're the only one "entering" the "coffee cup -contest". In most situations in life, you thank someone when they actually give you something (when you win the giftaway).

They giveaway creator is giving you something. You are being given the chance at a free game.
Just because you didn't win doesn't mean you shouldn't be thankful for the chance. Also, it's not a matter of "guilt" that I say thank you; it's a matter of courtesy to the giveaway creator.

I'll take a while. Doesn't help that I often won't post in giveaways, except in privates and small group giveaways. Still, I'm getting closer. Less than 2000 comments difference.

Another subtle message from the Fortix gods perhaps? Thou shalt gifeth Fortix beforeth thoust receiveth...or something.

Maybe it's a sign, the Fortix gods want you to give before you receive.

...of a 1:1 comment entry ratio.
Took a lot of catching up after I spent the first 4 months or so on this site entering everything I could find without a single comment or post in the forums.
Celebration time
