Hahahha, wait.. What is this... Okay, that explains all the patches for CS:GO lately with updates for the controller.
I don't wanna be the guy destroying the party but playing any of those games with a controller is just a total waste, L4D maybe you could have some fun with I have no idea, but CS:GO is just to forget about.
That was a really lame offer, i guess they looking for a bigger audience and trying to get them to play competitive games with their controller aswell... Im doubtful ;]

Why waste? games are intended to be entertainment, if you're entertained, it doesn't matter if you're playing with the guitar from guitar hero.

You have a very good point, but then again you don't get copies if you own it already..
That you got the last deal with RL + Portal : )

CSGO is competitive, not just for fun or entertainment. So if you play it with a controller there's a big chance you ruins the game for your teammates.

Why would you play the competitive modes with the controller? there's for fun modes, specially in the custom servers.

pub and rank is still competitive there's just no chance you could beat mouse+keyboard with the controller, i think it will be used just for trolling and ruining the game experience of other players... Maybe creating custom modes only for these players can do anything but i can't think of how you would mix cs with a controller and being popular, or used in good ways.

I think you're missing the point of the non-ranked modes, which is having fun, and practicing. I'd be mad if a user willingly trolled my ranked game, but if an user is performing bad, in a non-ranked game, but isn't doing it just for the spite of it, then there's no harm. Games are for fun, ranked queues are for competition.

i don't know how are they gonna play vs mouse+keyboard players with a controller...

The Steam controller is a lot more accurate than a regular controller when you get used to it. Sure, you'll always be at a disadvantage compared to mouse/keyboard players but it's far from impossible to do okay in casual with it.

Yeah, I bet u'll do pretty fine at killing some bots, low ranked ppl for sure.. But yeah I did kinda mentioned competetive. :]
Anyway, everyone play what they want with what they want.. I just wanted to mention that personally i was not positively about the deal, even tho id like to try the controller out.
Then atleast they should made you able to choose 2 Valve games of free sort or something like that because it doesn't make sense to me.
But throw them money at Gaben!

but they aren't offering half-life 2 to play singleplayer, it's csgo. it's like giving away dota items and say "hey guys, enjoy these free skins to play dota 2 with your controller!".
no one would ever play a competitive fps or moba with a controller, ever. :3

besides, it makes no sense at all that you can't keep the game in your inventory.

CSGO isen't just competitive though, there is the casual mode as well is all I'm saying. A lot of people don't ever touch the competitive mode and still have fun with the game.

If you want to game from your couch, simply being able to do it at all weigh up for a lot. It might not be the optimal input device for a competitive FPS or MOBA but from a couch but it's as good as it gets (and in most cases good enough to have fun).

... and even Dota 2 is possible to play fairly well on the Steam Controller if you want to.

that's fine if people enjoy playing with the controller.
what i expect is players some complaining that they get owned by people using mouse+kb and demand stuff, like autoaim. :3

considering reviews that people are making about this controller, it is better they start to give a free copy of Metal Gear Solid Phantom Pain, Grand Theft Auto V and Fallout 4 together...

I think those are all too expensive. Rocket League + Portal 2 made a great combination as gifts with the controller, both work great with it and are priced fairly to go with it.

IMO, most reviews of the controller are from people who've picked it up, tried it for an hour and then reviewed it.

Almost every positive review I've seen starts when them saying that it took some time to get used to it. And of-course it would. It's completely different from almost all others.

It took me around an entire days usage to get completely used to it. And now that I have, it's easily the best controller I've ever used. The precision on it is like no other, let alone the customization and hardware features.

You seriously can't get a gift copy if you don't own it already? How does that make any sense? "I'll give you a free sandwich from Sandwich Bar, but since you're already eating a sandwich from Sandwich Bar, I won't give you the opportunity to get one later, you just won't get a free one at all".

Plus, neither of those games is going to be great on the controller. Rocket League + Portal 2 made a lot more sense.

"We have a multiplayer-only game that is so competitive that people run it on small nuclear power plants at the lowest settings to achieve maximum framerate for pixel perfect aiming precision. I know, let's gift it for those who buy a CONTROLLER. I am sure nothing bad will happen to them."

Next, I'd like Razer to gift a copy of BlazBlue or a random Rayman game for every keyboard purchase. It would make about the same sense.

I've finished Origins and I'm playing Legends with keyboard and it feels great.

Believe me, I use keyboards for everything, because I'm terrible at controllers. I mean I play platformers or even JRPGs with my keyboard too. But I also acknowledge the fact that these type of games, along with tournament fighters, were designed for controllers specifically, and control a lot better with them, even if I cannot really showcase it.
(On the other hand, I never really had any problems with third-person brawlers like Arkham. I feel comfortable with the mouse+keyboard combo there, even on the challenge maps.)

Well to be fair I've never given controllers a chance, I've never owned one until a few months back so I can't play well with the sticks and the bumpers and whatnot.
