Because ignorance of site rules is not an excuse for breaking them. If a person cannot be bothered to be respectful enough to search the site for its rules before posting content, why should people treat them respectfully?

It's only common sense to do so. Running afoul of any rule as your first action after signing up to any site would be a downright silly thing to do.

I'm actually more surprised when people don't actually read the rules when they join a website. That is like saying you don't read the contract before signing it. Seems like a pretty bad habit in my opinion.
Besides, I don't think they were rude to you. While a few of them were blunt, lot of them were quite polite and ignorance is never an excuse XD

I think it has to do with the rules and the need to stick to it to avoid trouble. Kinda like Grammar Nazi? I just don't want to see the new guy run afoul of the support staff just a day after joining. That would be a crappy feeling.
