The hours spent answering your questions will forever remain in my heart, Chronic.

For the curious, yes, I am sick of one specific person, and yes, had they just acted like an adult, I probably would have continued on.
But.
I would rather not deal with them.
One cannot inflict punishment without a breach in regulation, and they like to skirt said rules.
No, there is no handing of torches, there is no official transition, nobody has any kind of support from me to take over. Nor do they have me holding them back. I never owned the concept of trivia, I was just willing to do it, and other people were willing to be involved.

It is okay that you need time away and to distance yourself from things such as this. Thank you for your valuable time and effort you did contribute into a foundation of something that will hopefully be continued and built upon. And if not and this is the end, well, that is okay also. It was fun. I do hope to see it continue though, I am not against the idea of continuing my limited involvement from time to time, or maybe expand on it and help more. I am sorry that you have to leave under such irregular circumstances.

Eventhough I rarely (translation: once) joined the trivia, I still wish you would reconsider. Just take a break form it and get back :) I am also sure that making rules more strict woudln't hurt at all (e.g. adding something like "All inappropriate behavior can lead to (temporary?) ban. What is inappropriate is solely on mods judgement.")
Comment has been collapsed.
Because it is, not mention wrong. Chronic refused to act like an adult just as many times, but because he wasn't a mod and he was slightly more abrasive, [blank] got all the blame even when it was entirely the fault of chronic for causing a problem.
Comment has been collapsed.
First of all, I just felt like a god - summoning you from the dead :D:
To the topic - I may personally believe that chronic handled the situation wrong. I'd personally either wouldn't allow any exclusions in the first place (even thou certain someone excluded from trivia in the first place fucked with my own trivia as well) or when drama began just ban certain other someone for trivia only, and let him rage as much as he wish later on.
But the fact of the matter is that this certain someone else was continuously distrupting the trivia and creating drama. Should he be banned? Well it would certainly prevent the end turn of events, and for this chronic may be to blame. But nonetheless if he didn't start demands in the middle of event, then start a drama, none of this would have happened either. He may be the straw that break the camel's back, but without his actions there wouldn't be this straw.

Do you frequent chat much? During trivia times? Any other times?
I am just asking as I do not remember you being there.
Comment has been collapsed.
yes I do. I don't usually compete in trivia, as my typing sucks compared to everyone else, but I used to be in SG chat every day whole day for a long time, until my real life caught up with me. I've seen 3+ dozens of trivia nights myself live, sponsored 3 of them, even with my own questions for 2 (got real life issues for 3rd one), ran my own unofficial mini-trivia event as part of my birthday celebration event etc.
I am certainly not the most diehard chat member, but I do hang out frequently, and used to do so much more in the past. And I do know most of the chatgoers involved.
And I didn't see a lot of your activity in chat as well, even before I blocked you.
Comment has been collapsed.
I am active when I feel like it.
even before I blocked you.
You always seem to include a bit of bait in each of your posts. I like that :D
Now go back to giving games away to no one please. :p

Honestly, if chronic actually stuck to the rules he set down, a lot of the drama I'm aware of (believe me, even with being gone for years now, people still bitch at me) wouldn't have actually happened. A lot of times, said someone was genuinely following the rules as chronic laid them out for other people. Whether they were abrasive or not shouldn't matter. There were many occasions chronic had one set of rules for this person, another for everyone else. Can you possibly blame said person for being pissed off about that?
Comment has been collapsed.
I can blame a certain person that when said no by an event host just start up spamming same thing solely to distrupt an event. Most important thing - it's not only chronic he's harrassing by doing so - he's ruining the fun for all other participants in the process. What would be so different if he'd save the drama for when trivia was over just not to screw up with all the other ppl's fun?
Comment has been collapsed.
hmm, big wonder - maybe because he wanted to focus on an event he was currently hosting? I'll ask again - what would be so different about you holding the drama until the trivia ended instead of ruining the fun for every other parties not involved in your personal 1v1 drama?
Comment has been collapsed.
The fact that the prize was changed? The fact that when trivia ended, it would be gone midnight local time? The fact that I was providing the prize, except then not providing the prize? The fact that the? very matter the drama revolved around, was during trivia, and relied on dealing with an issue during it?
Comment has been collapsed.
someone made a public ultimatum stating that the prize would no longer be available unless a ransom was met? you see that as chronics fault? amazing
Comment has been collapsed.
a ransom is a demand. Sorry for using words that exist beyond your vocab.
Comment has been collapsed.
Okay, let me explain something here. You have me blocked. If you won my prize, you would not be able to receive my prize. If I allowed that prize to continue, with you being able to enter, I would be in a situation where I would be potentially banned from the site, for not delivering a prize. I didn't want that to happen, so I had to make that clear. Then, you said you had no interest in entering anyway, and chronic continued with my prize, under the condition that you don't receive the link. Not a ransom.
Comment has been collapsed.
pretty sure anyone that has read the log will disagree. since when do people get banned for not delivering a key? you get a red mark on your profile that's about it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, a red mark on your profile is still something that was obtained for breaking site rules. And the fact of the matter is, I'm sure plenty of users, and to that matter, moderators, would have no hesitation in banning me at the first excuse they got. I'd rather not give them an excuse.
Comment has been collapsed.
I would hate to think that I came in between anything. I see that a prize I had given up in case something had happened would be available to members, was used during this unfortunate event in trivia. I had sent that gift as consolation and reimbursement when I made a folly myself a few weeks ago and could not make a trivia night I had committed to, even though the following week I did and provided then. I sent this gift to be used in case a sponsor was not able to provide or one was not found. I do not like how this is making me feel on the inside, now that I am seeing that my prize was used as fuel in this fire. I am going to go drink some Vodka and punch my neighbors. They are bad people and need punching.
Also, Luxy, if you read this, I love you :D

Someone offered to sponsor a prize, I told them I would have to post their blacklist before trivia began - a rule implemented after a previous sponsor had blacklisted two unawares trivia knights, thereby denying them the ability to enter the top-ten giveaway. This was a new rule for sponsoring that people either had to agree to, or I would not accept the sponsorship. The sponsor in question agreed.
As trivia began, I posted the blacklist.
The sponsor wanted to add a name after the fact, I allowed it because that addition had just joined chat and had only then become an issue. They even got warned before they participated. No harm done. Only a minor trouble for that one person and a slight delay to trivia.
Then they wanted another addition, not only after the fact, but after that person had begun participating. I refused. The sponsor said they would not give the prize to the winner.
Then they said that that second addition they wanted could not even participate, I refused. I cited the long standing cockblocking of all trivias past.
The sponsor gave an ultimatum, either that second name was blocked from participating, or the prize was withdrawn. Holding the prize ransom to their demands.
I accepted their withdrawal and activated the kindly provided backup prize. Thanks again by the way Adam Zombie for doing that.
The original sponsor proposed the compromise of allowing the second name to participate. I accepted. They then said that if I provided the link to that name, they would try to get me banned for sharing a private giveaway.
I withdrew their sponsorship.
I pondered, how better would this be handled? Perhaps simply never accepting blacklists of any kind.
I implemented said rule, never accepting another sponsor if they wish to blacklist anyone. Which will interestingly only cover Sunday.
Comment has been collapsed.
never accepting blacklists of any kind
Yes. That is best. I do not blacklist anyone, even those I do not get along with. And you are welcome, I am glad the game was used, just maybe not in this kind of situation. But it is okay. Unforeseen events and circumstances always seem to arise within our community.

Sometimes reminds me of a mix of Animal Farm and Lord of the Flies, with just a dash of Harrison Bergeron.

It is a mixed bunch of good hearten individuals though. Some just like to cause mischief however. Sometimes not when appropriate. Sometimes taken to far. All can be forgiven though so long as it isn't pushed off a cliff or binged in excess. As I said, I am going to go drink shots with the neighbors though and they suck. I am not a very good judge of character. And again, Luxy, I love you :D
And I love all of you too <3

Deiru's commented to me many times, trying to get me to be a middleman, about how Chronic ignored him outside of trivia too, even if there was an urgent issue.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, this is one of the things I was thinking of. I lost count of the "If you have an issue to talk about, please take it to PMs." turning into "I don't want to talk to you through PMs." As LoveIsPatient said, mods should be impartial. Chronic refused to even give that a second's thought a lot of the time, but there was very little the other mods were willing or could do since chronic was, for the most part, the trivia leader.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes I got that, but I was replying to thejadefalcon who said that it really is calling out (or maybe I didn't understand correctly)
Comment has been collapsed.
Ho, ok. I'm still not sure how is that calling out if it was only suggesting you should not be allowed in the trivia, as this is not an accusation and I thought that is what calling out is about.
Comment has been collapsed.
Any way to get you back? There's no peace-keeping guarantee as you well know, imagine how much worse the trivia nights would've been without a mod involved. I really feel like this will ultimately reward the most obnoxious participant in the history of trivia.
Mods have some duty to impartiality and diplomacy, chatters can be as fractious and as truculent as they want with little to lose, as we have well seen.
There's already huge issues with certain individual(s) backseat modding, thinking "they" are some authority in the chat, what happens when there's an issue and the law needs to be laid down and someone actually needs to be kicked or banned?
Comment has been collapsed.
Any way to get you back?
I will bring the cookies if that will help.

It is not as if Shobo, BoboFatt, Lina, Korrd, Mozendo, and the rest of the fine crew are dead.
And, it is not as though I am quitting helping in chat, I just cannot deal with a supernova of bullshit every week just because someone wants to stir up trouble.
Any way to get you back?
If you somehow removed the problem and we ended up with a few more people willing to jump in and supply questions and prizes without me hunting them down... Sure, that'd be nice and I probably would have no problem with coming back. But I don't think you can remove the problem, and it can be hard to get a sponsor, much less someone willing to put together 60 questions of varying difficulty every week.
Mods have some duty to impartiality and diplomacy...
I have always believed as much myself, that is why I am an equal opportunity banner.

Damn it, it's the end of an era. I wish I had something smart or at least funny to say about this, but I have nothing. At least I can brag about having the most points overall of all trivias based on the data beep collected (and I doubt that'd change with the last one). Still, I'd rather have second place than 'win' in such a bitter way.
Anyway, I'll be doing (that is, hosting) trivias once in a while (a few times a year) like I did before, so feel free to join in. I doubt the first one would happen before July though.
(I would link a certain poll, but I've had enough bans for now...)

trivia is too tainted, we should move to a chat wide game of board game online where the top 10 get in http://www.boardgame-online.com/ :B1:
Comment has been collapsed.
Is there a kind of Battleship or Risk that allows 20 players? That'd be cool. Chaos, but cool.
Also, the first person attacked would be fucked, because every person that comes after that first attack would target that weaker player.
Literally the first person attacked would always lose.

Would only work if made like how chat trivia is now. Pause chat, pick a location to bomb, hit/miss. But it would be chaos.

Just wanted to say a quick thanks for hosting the event for as long as you did. I only made it once, and it was an interesting experience. Hosting it for as long as you did surely took great patience. I'm sorry it ended with this friction/drama.

Have to be not home during chronic's final trivia, figures. I might have not been that consistent in playing trivia nights but each them was fun so thanks for all the trivia..

Although sadly without Chronic, we are indeed continuing trivia in a group Grizzly made called Trivia Knights, if you want to join. Our first night without Chronic was yesterday.

Well, I asked him about it recently since I wasn't using this site during this phase. I for one would love to have it back, since I was an observer many times. I'm also willing to be a donor with no custom requirements, but that's beside the point, because it depends on chronic's will to host it again.

So you all know how Sundays at 6 PM EST, in the Steamgifts official Steamgroup's Steamchat, the chat room for Steamgifts on Steam, the chat room linked to on Steamgift's Steamgroup, we meet. And there we run through a series of between 20 and 60 questions of varying difficulty for about an hour or so. This is the page that tells you what is coming in the future:
May 31st - Efreak Super-challenge Spectaculaaaaaare
The Spectaculaaaaaare will be the final trivia, I have gotten really sick of people being asses without breaking the rules just to be disruptive.
So, no more trivia announcements? You betcha. Leastwise, no more from me.
Prizes, a Spectaculaaaaaare cannot be Spectaculaaaaaare without prizes.
Efreak is sponsoring Tower Wars, Adventures of Shuggy, Space Trader: Merchant Marine, RIP - Trilogy, Pixel Puzzles: UndeadZ, Pixel Puzzles: Japan, Commando Jack, Chompy Chomp Chomp, Rush for Glory, and Frozen Hearth.
Crazedanimal is sponsoring Shadowrun Returns.
Nasty Hero is sponsoring Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.
caroM is sponsoring FOTONICA
Kybaig is sponsoring Kerbel Space Program
MorphineBear is sponsoring Depth
CarlEric is sponsoring Mountain
Downward Concept is sponsoring Chivalry: Medieval Warfare
Aaand I will have some prizes too.
Of course, only the top ten placing answerers of questions get a chance at those prizes, so, trivia it up Trivia Knights.
Special rules exist for chat during these Trivia times, we will ban people from chat for violations of those rules. And don't forget, the normal rules still exist too, like mark NSFW content.
Zero: As with a site quiz, don't give other people answers. If you're turned in, you're barred from all future trivias I have anything to do with.
One: Answering a question with a valid answer earns you a point, answering a Trick Question by pointing out it is a trick and explaining why gains you two points, answering a question with a detailed response as judged by the Trivia Master de jour will earn you two points, getting the special detailed answer after someone gets a valid answer will still earn you a single point.
As an example:
12:16 PM - chronicdiscord: We all know the Grimace is a citizen of McDonaldland, but what was he when originally introduced?
12:16 PM - Deirü: Alive.
12:16 PM - Judge Jade: An evil villain
12:17 PM - MMRhino: He was a fast food worker
12:17 PM - cg: an insect-like villain that stole milkshakes
Now, here we see cg giving The Right One™, but after Jade gave one that worked... What happens here is that both Jade and cg get a single point, had cg's come in first, he would have gotten both points.
Two: The objective of Trivia Night is to obtain a position in the Top Ten of those participating that night, thus earning you a slot in a ten slot private giveaway. In the event of low scoring players having a tie, we will run a small elimination round to ensure we only have 10 entries for the giveaway. If anyone else answers, correctly or falsely, in this time, it's a ban, we don't want anyone mucking up Trivia Night. Before asking a question the Trivia Master will block all chatting, unblock, then ask the question, then you answer, this prevents people from complaining about anyone getting a head start with their answers and gives you all a clear sign that the question is incoming.
Three: While Trivia is running, the Trivia Master's name will be green, because they will be running a game in the background. You will not be green, only the Trivia Master gets to talk and be green, this is to ensure no confusion for people as to when official Trivia stuff is being said.
Four: No spamming answers. You can only give one answer per person per minute, any more and you are considered to be spamming. This is based on the Trivia Master's screen and what their timestamps say. There is no other way around this, it's harsh, but it's the best we can do. Any copypasta of longer than 15 characters will be treated as spam and dealt with accordingly. Spamming answers will have all your answers be ignored.
Five: The first to answer gets the point, based on what the Trivia Master sees, you complain, we ban, and no, there will be no kick step on this. You may request a recheck, no one's eyes are perfect, but don't go moaning about being pingfucked, that's not cricket.
Six: If you complain about the questions, you get kicked without warning. There have been way too many Trivia Nights where we see nothing but people saying, "ask more questions about things I know!" You are missing the point and you are being incredibly rude to the people asking the questions and putting up the prizes.
As fair warning, often times the trivia questions asked may qualify as spoilers to the things which they deal with, so if we have a topic you are interested in going into without it being spoiled, you may not want to show up for that night. If you're really interested in seeing Girls und Panzer without it being spoiled, skip Girls und Panzer night.
If you can play by these rules, then you can join us for Trivia Night, a weekly event that has been running for quite some time, more than an entire year. And heck, if you want to run your own night, with your own questions or prize, we're always looking for sponsors and question providers. And seriously, thanks to those folk who have sponsored trivia nights over the course of the last year, it's crazy that this has been going on so long.
All the love in the world to Sir Anal of Curly Fries, cg, a zombie, BoboFatt, wbarton, thejadefalcon, Lina, Crossbourne, TheGreenFairy, tr4656, GoJays, onetwo, truncat, Veliar, leomoty, Col. Jack O'Neill, Kiru, Raiden, cxiong, SaintDestroyer, MMRhino, Nasty Hero, Downward Concept, Senpai-Beast, anktejp, GLaPOS, Jon, Grizzlywolf, ilovecheese2, CombatWars, DerangedBoar, Weehamster, norby, Commander Shepard, FaRaDaY, Anonymous, Nudiustertian, Poxyz, Erdbeertoertchen, Shut Up, Me, kybaig, zelghadis, efreak, SakataKun, beep, SleepyCat, Turdl, Docam, QETC Crimson, Student123, CarlEric, Crazedanimal, and the participants over the course of two and a quarter years.
And thanks for sponsoring Deiru.
