hi,

i just added a new game, checked my steam account and saw that Steam removed 5 Games from my account.
the strange thing is that i didnt get any notice when i started steam today. normally you get a window in case a game has been removed from your account, once you start steam.

anyone else with the same problem?

Did you buy games from other retail traders? I think some of your games have been revoked

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

no i didnt, and the thing is, if a game gets revoked and you start steam, you get a notice window that tells you if somethig has been revoked or removed.
i just won a few game in the last week (around 8 or 9)

Was it your Game count who was going down or did you noticed it for a specific game.
If it was the gamecount then it is most likely that a game got removed from store.
You still have it in your library but it does not count as +1 anymore.

hmm that's weird, i didn't have games collector tab, it's at very bottom

https://steamcommunity.com/id/darkhosis/

but mine still says 1223, and I know I have a ton of asset flip games, since I was doing this +1 stuff up until 3 months or so ago.

i would say perhaps the DLC have to have some minimum value, but then that wouldn't be very fair, since it's not something you can change

I had 466 games / 281 DLC which did look ridiculous. And now I'm left with 3 DLC :D Have no idea how they calculate that though, as I have way more.

I just did that (had some unredeemed keys on Tremor anyways) and now the counter shows 2511. Not surprising to me, because I do not consider myself a game colletor as in collecting for the sake of collecting. It's just that there have been so many bundles or deals for games I find interesting over the years that I couldn't help but getting them for when the day arrives when I will finally play them. And I really am not fond of playing trash!

Where do I see a before and after DLC count tho?

Thank you for satisfying my curiosity. <33

I wonder if this DLC counting is going to be reworked. I mean, how has it anything to do with so called "fake games"?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Valve probably used the same algorithm for DLCs as for games. Less purchases, less reviews .. "fake game".

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's either what Myrsan said, or fact that they basically cut down all +1 on Steam.

People were buying those trash games to get +1 to game count, +10k achievements, steam cards, +1 "perfect game" game and so on. So they may decided that people shouldn't also be able to boost their statistic with DLCs

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hm, wouldn't it make more sense to remove the DLC display completely then? And what defines whether a DLC is regarded as "valid" or "invalid". I don't see any logic behind this.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Apart form recent change to friends and group chat in beta version of the client, when Valve did something logical? :D

At first I though it counts only DLCs that are listed on all games page. But no, I have way more than 3. It's also not number of games with DLCs, as I also have way more.

It'd be good if Valve would make detailed notes how they changed something, and how some functions will work form now on. But they never do...

Sync your library on Backlog Assassins Extraordinaire and check your games list, it should give you a warning about missing games, unless you somehow managed to add it after your previous sync.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That was one of the first things I tried, but the game probably isn't 'removed' so much as now 'steam is still learning about this game', so it's not on my stats anymore. Presumably once people buy and play it enough, it'll show back up.

but which one????

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Do you have a completionist.me profile? That tells you which games that were previously completed are no longer counted as completed?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I just tried it, but it's only pinging back 'Highway Blossoms', which I've known about for a few months.

I think when a game is 'hidden by Steam', it's well and truly hidden so it leaves no trace until it passes the threshhold and comes up again.

EDIT WAIT I FIGURED IT OUT - between the time I finished the game and the time I checked, Tales of Cosmos' DLC went live with 3 more achievements added. VINDICATION!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Glad you figured it out. I admit that I also hate losing a previously completed game, so completionist's little feature has helped me out a few times. Worst is when a game is in the process of adding new DLC or a big update and has made new achievement but not made them live for everyone yet.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, that's the situation I found myself in.

Thank you so much for pointing me to this site! I love it! all the information and lists and charts - it's a dream!

Unfortunately it will never be 100% accurate - I 100% cleared a game and then removed it from my inventory completely. Steam and BLAEO count the game and its achievements, but completionist.me does not. It's one game and ten achievements so it's pretty easy to add back in in my head, though.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Could it be because you signed up at completionist after you'd deleted the game? It would have no way of knowing then.

"Some time ago we posted about fake games, and how they led us to make a change to Steam Trading Cards.

In our previous post, we described what we believe a successful Steam Store would look like, and why balancing the interests of all the players and developers made it an interesting challenge.

In that post, we described why we chose to remove access to Trading Cards for games until it became clear that users were actually buying and playing the game.

Since then, we’ve seen fake games move to exploiting other Steam systems, so we’ve decided to make a couple more tweaks to address them. Piggybacking onto the Trading Card system, games that haven’t reached the same confidence metric will now have these additional constraints:
A limit of 100 achievements.
Their achievements won’t contribute to global achievement count, and cannot be shown in a Steam Profile’s achievement showcase.
They won’t contribute to an account’s game library count, and cannot be shown in a Steam Profile’s Game Collector showcase.
They won't be eligible for Coupons

As you can guess, fake games were inflating achievement and game counts for users to display on their profiles. Our data shows us that an insignificant number of users were taking advantage of this, but the existence of these fake games still confuses our algorithms and users. For those who still want to buy products for the purpose of increasing their game or achievement counts, we now show whether or not a game is under these constraints on its Store page.

We don’t believe these constraints will negatively impact real games in any way, and the removal of fake games should improve the Store experience for everyone."

In case you didn't notice what I wrote above, having 98% of my DLCs removed from the total count is a serious issue. We're not talking about one or two pieces here. HUNDREDS of them have vanished. Over a thousand in my case. This kind of crap is proving to me that Steam is no longer deserving my presence, money and spare time. Do I have to mention that I bought nearly all those DLC packs and that they mostly belonged to AA and AAA titles? They didn't deserve to get removed and neither did I deserve to get shafted by Valve today, along with countless other collectors!

You're right. It's pointless. Still, if they don't rectify this "bug", I'm done with Steam. It's bad enough that we don't technically own anything on these digital distribution platforms. Valve and others can do what they want with our accounts. We just "rent" licenses to games and so on. Crap like this makes me really miss simpler times when everything was disc-based.

Nah, that had more to do with companies going DRM crazy around 2000-2007 and poisoning the retail side of the industry in the process. Rootkits and other nasty shit was being shoved into games left and right, and as a consumer that scared me enough that I stopped buying PC games almost entirely for roughly a decade.
