Can anyone explain to me why Icewind Dale 2 Complete and Neverwinter Nights 2 Complete are not available on Steam?
And are there any other good old RPGs that are also not on Steam?

Might be a licensing issue.

All the IE games + NWN1 were made by Bioware. Beamdog team is made up of people who used to work at Bioware, so the transition was pretty much obvious.

NWN2 was made by Obsidian. The rights to NWN2 were in the hands of Atari, which was later absorbed by EA and so now Hasbro has the right to its name. So not even Obsidian has the rights to remake it, and if they did, Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart said in a talk that NWN2 almost bankrupted them because the game involved too many resources they didn't know they needed (which explains why there are so many missing animations and some spells and FX are half baked) so he has some PTSD about it.

Wizards of the Coast owns D&D, but they don't own Neverwinter Nights 2.

So no, a remaster o enhanced version, at this point in life, is very much never going to happen.

I love NWN2, more than NWN1, but at this point, NWN2 is more of a risk than an assured success. Because even though there's still an audience for the game, the audience is "stuck in time" for a game that is now being crushed by newer titles and an enhanced version wouldn't (statistically speaking) surpass the investment nor compete with better games already established.```

Even if Icewind Dale 2 code is lost could they not reverse engineer it back from Icewind Dale 2 Complete that is on GOG?

Temple of the Elemental Evil, Eye of the Beholder series, Rage of Mages series, first Konung, Evil Islands, Pool of Radiance series, Ultima series, most of Wizardry series, the same with Might&Magic, etc...probably many more, those came to my head just now and these are only western RPGs - there are dozens of asian series too. Most of these old western games are available at GOG.

I wonder why games that you can buy on GOG you can't buy on Steam.

For older games GOG contacts the rights-holders and makes a deal with them. Now, most of these games won't work out of the box so GOG has to work on them to make sure they're playable on modern systems. Other companies, like Nightdive, similarly acquire licenses for older games and work on them, and are able to publish them on many platforms including Steam.

As a platform agnostic it's kinda hard for me to understand the obsession with "I want everything on Steam".
Both games are readily available on GOG

https://www.gog.com/game/neverwinter_nights_2_complete
Besides GOG releases tending to run on modern systems out of the box and being DRM free you can integrate them as non-Steam games in your Steam library. The only thing you're missing out probably is a +1 to your game count.

I like to keep everything in one place but before I started to use Steam I used GOG and games like that were the main reason to have GOG account.

I know they are on GOG that is why I wonder why they are not on Steam. If you have say no license to sell the game you have no license to sell it on both GOG and Steam and many other platforms but somehow you can buy them on GOG but not anywhere else.

Keep in mind that GOG was a website that, as far as I know, started primarily with having older game titles (Hence the name). Maybe they tried to make more of an effort to get these games on their platform, since it was their primary focus back then.

And in either case, if you do want all your games in one handy launcher, you can as hbarkas already mentioned, add them to steam as non-steam games, or you can use GOG's launcher, which now integrates with all sorts of other launchers, such as Steam for instance.

You can use GOG Galaxy 2.0 to manage all your games across all platforms

You install GOG Galaxy, then in settings you can choose which 3rd party integration you wish to use (so for example Steam). For each integration you will need to login and do the 2FA through GOG Galaxy. This is its repo.

Yes, the Galaxy launcher contains "integrations" for the various platforms. Basically pieces of code querying your games owned, tracking playtime etc.
There's a difference between official and community developed. Epic and Xbox Live are official and developed by GOG in cooperation with the specific platform owners. All others are volunteer projects.

While the concept of a "launcher to rule them all" is intriguing I sadly got the Steam integration which would be the most interesting for me never to work reliably. Either the integration crashed while loading my library or went unresponsive.

While the code is open to review on github there's still concern of undiscovered vulnerabilities as you have to enter your credentials for each account you want to integrate. Looking at the daily threads on Steam forums "my account was stolen/hijacked/hacked" there's a reason warning users from doing this.

It's a nice idea, I use it for GOG/Epic/Xbox/Orgin/Ubisoft, but their Steam integration has never worked for me.

Mine works, but sometimes it displays wrong platform for games. Most of them are correct, though.

Right now the oldest game I can say I've played is final fantasy 3. I'm 2000+ when it comes to games so while not old I want my fable 3 back. It was so disappointing learning it was on steam but then removed. I only played it fully one time and it was terrible, on my next playthroughs I learnt you need money!

Neverwinter Nights 2 and expansions were on Steam up until their removal like 10 years ago. Probably connected with the Atari stuff that was happening at the moment. I remember people asking about a return to Steam and an "enhanced" version and replies that the focus currently was on other titles (mainly the 1st NWN) and there was a chance for a comeback at a later date.

What about Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2? They're both on gog, Konami publishes games on Steam, but those are not on Steam. In what fresh hell does that make sense?

True. Like it is not that hard to tell Steam you want to sell the game on their platform...
