Same here. I guess the devs eventually saw sense.

Was it only people who had the DLC, or anyone who had the base game?

I got it too but don't have the DLC so seems is for everyone who had the base game.

I don't have any DLCs, yet I have the DC version.

They didn't "see sense", they were bullied into it.

I wouldn't say bullied. People (who are their customers) don't like these kind of moves and they explicitly declared the DC would be a free update. I'd say they reversed a bait and switch attempt.

"These kind of moves"? What, you mean updating and adding content to a 3 year old game and expecting a pittance in return? OH MY GOD, IT'S SO GREEDY THAT THEY WON'T WORK FOR FREE.

They said it would be free. Then they blindside their fans by only announcing that it would cost money on the day of release. Whether or not you think they should charge for the game, it was a dumb decision for the devs to not have announced the price hike earlier. It's not as if the devs just woke up that morning and decided that they would start charging.

If they had announced a couple of months ago and apologized for raising the price, I'm sure it would have gone a lot better.

jatan11t already pointed out the issue at hand. They said it would be free, then they backpedaled.

Apart from that, FTL is hugely popular and recently received a substantial, free update. An update that many people would have probably paid for. And FTL was a complete, enjoyable game before the update.
Releasing incomplete games in a rush is a trend that bled from AAA to indies. Charging for the rest followed and posts like yours show that such tactics work.

Thanks for the info, I'm glad they decided to do the right thing after all.

It's not "the right thing." They didn't owe you or anyone else anything. Entitled idiots screaming and pitching a huge fit over a non-issue essentially forced them to do it or suffer irreparable damage to their reputation undeservedly, which they have already suffered anyway.

The "owe" part is controversial, because they promised that Director Cut will be for free and they didn't backtrack on it until the release of the game.

Ah, thanks for the pointer. I saw the director's cut appear when I synced my account here earlier and was kind of curious as to how they managed to authorize it directly on my account. The post you linked to explains it -- Valve did it for them. Thanks for the info.

the devs should never said that the update was going to be free because they "hate that kind of shady marketing"

I hope Binding of isaac does that when it comes time for rebirth to come out.

Not that I wont buy it but it would be awesome if it were free to people that had the regular BOI

I'm sure Edmund McMillen and the team of devs he hired are going to just give away the game they've been working on for two years to everyone who bought it for $1.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that BoI Rebirth will be discounted for owners of the original, don't know how much though and don't have the source at hand.

Edit: "owners of the original will get a considerable discount if they preorder Rebirth"

BoI is a popular game, team meat can do whatever they want and people will give them their money, no matter what.

What's more surprising for me is that they decided to do this after a certain incident that happened recently. I guess you don't learn from other people mistakes, eh ?
