Are these what you always hoped to get to Discover?

[Tier 1] Finally HB offer something you couldn't get for a dollar before. Just a single game, but I'll take it.
[Tier 3] Red Matter alone costs this much on sale, how could I refuse this offer?
[Skip] It's like a Choice, but full of games nobody knows or owns. Meh.
[No VR] I prefer to keep my digital and fleshy lives separated.

Lowest BTA was on a very start of bundle 5,27 Euro:

Totally not interested in VR bundle.

Ps. They should just remove this moving BTA as recently it does not work (bad tier composition or BTA mechanics) and often BTA is higher then highest tier :)

VR...VR....VR....so boring this new trend the last 1 year .....totally disappointing crap.

It's not a trend. It's a bunch of hungry devs who are not making the money they were hoping for on their deluxe niche market so they're ready to do anything to make a buck. IGN loves hungry devs.

It's definitely a niche right now.
But if you've ever tried Half Life: Alyx, or even Resident Evil 4 VR, the Walking Dead or Doom VR - you will definitely see the gaming potential.

I honestly mostly use my headset for sport/workout games.
It's the natural progression after Wii and Kinect sport/workout games.
But I'm obviously referring to wireless VR.
Wired VR is pretty crappy, and doesn't really do much gaming-wise.

To play VR games, I need to buy a VR headset, but that's too expensive. Even with the headset, I know I won't play too much, even only a few times, not worse. Therefore, skip VR games.

You need a VR headset and a big room with no furniture.
I have a colleague who literally broke his arm playing Beat Saber with his brand new Xmas gift.

I was playing a lot in a room where play area is 2.5m x 2m and had no problems. But that space is minimum for me. (I also played in a room with space 4m x 3m and difference is not that big, because in games they mostly expect smaller rooms)
You have to set up borders correctly in head set to avoid hitting something.

Headset is not that expensive, now I own Oculus Quest 2 (around 480euro) and it is great (no cables even if you play thru Steam, but you need cable to your PC and then a fast wifi router)

Just got myself a Quest 2 so I take every VR bundle I can get :D
Unfortunately quite a lot of multiplayer games in this bundle and I already have Trover...but I'm probably still gonna go for Tier 3.

I still don't understand why people pay more for the bundle then the cost of the top tier. Then again I have a tight budget.

My feeling exactly. That and their decrease in the amount of games in choice is making my opinion of Humble drop a lot.

You mean tier 1 + 3 is cheaper than tier 2.
Great job IGN πŸ˜†

My issue is that tier 3 should be $12 and it is higher then it should be. Also, yeah, BTA is dumb in most cases.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Tier 3 is still $12 it's just BTA has surpassed it so to get it all you have to pay the BTA. Tier 3 itself doesn't contain BTA.

Well I bought it and it was more then $12.

This is the way it was always been.
Even before IGN.
If BTA is higher than top tier, top tier will no longer include the BTA games.

I'm of two minds. On one hand, I do plan to get a VR headset once the new Meta headset is revealed, on the other hand I have already spent a lot on games this year and would rather not buy something I won't have access to for a while - who knows when the headset will be available with the way things are going for them right now.

The new Meta headset is going to have face tracking - so it's going to be more expensive, but not better for gaming (maybe slightly better, but diginitely not worth the price spike).
It's mainly meant to improve social interactions in the metaverse.

It will drive Quest 2 prices down though, so you may get a Quest 2 for cheaper after the new headset is released.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I'm waiting to see how it goes. If it's worth it, I'll buy it. If the price hike is mainly because of features I won't use, I'll buy the Quest 2 cheaper. It's an investment because I need to have it shipped internationally so I don't want to make an uninformed decision or regret buying a headset if the new one is substantially better.

I think they still did not say any release date and price...It can take forever for you to wait...
If you want to play now, then buy it ;-) It is great and cheap headset.
I was also waiting for a Oculus Quest 3 and bought Oculus Quest 2 on Christmass :-) and I do not regret buying it and I am very happy with it.

The only downside is the Oculus head strap, it is better to buy any cheap (10 dollar) silicon pad from china and then it fits much better.

It's cheap for those who live in countries where it's officially sold. Here, it sells for about $1000 without any bells or whistles, and about that much with all the bells and whistles (cable, headstrap...etc) if I were to have it shipped. My work is going well, so I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford that, but it's still a small fortune for someone who lives in a country where the average income is less than 1/4 of that in the US and I would rather buy something I know I will not become near obsolete too soon. I don't mind waiting since it's a luxury, not a need.

I am from Czech republic (Europe). We also have no official distribution, but nearly all shops are getting it from UK, Germany or Poland. But price is not that big for us (but Oculus Quest 2 is a bit more than 1/3 of average income here).
But 1000dollars is quite a lot for us too (it is for half the price here)
Now I am not surprised that you will wait. I would wait too for your price...

Btw do not pay for official cable, they are so overpriced (they can also break easily, because they contain optic fibers)

  • I bought two cheapest 3metres cables:
-- USB 3-A-> USB-C (no problems, it is lighter, but charging is weaker).
-- USB-C -> USB-C cable (some ports are not working with Oculus Quest (I had to use extended PCI card for USB-C), it is heavier, charging is much better and nearly it can hold same battery %)
  • but best is to play without cables and just use wifi, then you can play about 2 hours, then have a break and charge it (it is charging very fast) and then you can continue :-)

And also till last Christmas I was using Oculus Rift CV1 that is maybe 5years old - all games were working without problems, but the display was so blurry, now with Quest 2 it is finally great. I hope that all main VR headsets will work for a long time.
Other accessories buy from China - it is very cheap here.

I have a question regarding the humble bundles, I have been absent for a while and I recall it used to have a weekly bundle on Tuesdays and a bi-weekly one on Thursdays... I cannot figure out the frequency now, if any... Can someone guide me please <3

The Humble Choice unlocks on the first Tuesday of every month (instead of Friday) and all games are revealed upfront.
The autocharge takes place one week before that (last Tuesday of the month).
A recent change (starting Feb 2022) has been the unification of Choice subscription types into a single one. There is no Classic / Platinum any more, everyone pays $11.99 / month. However, lately they had monthly promos of getting a sub for only $6 / month, so if you're thinking about doing that then maybe wait a bit and see if you receive a coupon like this.

Game bundles gave a potential to appear on Wednesdays and Fridays; sometimes they launch 2 bundles per week, other times 0. It depends from week to week.
Monday / Tuesday / Thursday are days allocated for books / comics or software bundles.

Apart from the horrible new display, a big change of the past year has been the sliders (there's a minimum Humble tip now for weekly bundle purchases).
Most of the times T1 has only 1 game which makes the majority of people to buy T3, thus placing the BTA tier (=T2) very close to T3. Basically nowadays there's no BTA distinguisher any more apart from the first minutes after bundle launch.

Thank you for the summary, much appreciated <3

lately they had monthly promos of getting a sub for only $6 / month

Darn, I just renewed my yearly subscription last week :-]

Apart from the horrible new display

I totally agree, things were clearer before

Most of the times T1 has only 1 game

I noticed and was hoping that was the exception :<
