Hey guys. I hope this will not be considered as a "call out" because the community must know about some things so I'll do my best not to link or reffer anyone other than just the website's title so whoever is involved will understand what I'm talking about and will be warned.

A few days ago someone created a discussion here to present his new website where you can mine cryptocurrency for him with your browser and in return you can earn coins to order the game you want from the available list. In the beginning I found his idea amazing so I went to the website and started mining immediately. When I reached the required amount of coins I posted my "order" to the comment section like everyone.

I was waiting for over a week and nothing happened. I sent an email to him asking for an update with no luck. In the meantime more people started asking why their comments are awaiting moderation and when they are going to receive their games. Same thing happened also on his Steam profile without any response. Ιndicatively:

  • -
Why don't you respond to comments on [removed link]?
  • -
Hi there, i wanted to ask you about your site. A lot people have requested some games there and you havent responded since more than a day. I dont know if its because you just didnt have time or if its because you just cant "pay" them. If its because you cant give them their games, then please at least try to be honest and tell them. I will not think bad of you, if you do. I know that you just wanted to create something nice for the community. But please dont let these people wait forever. They supported you and your idea.
  • -
It's been 2 days now and didn't get anything from [removed link], but as [removed username] said it would be great if you give us some notice about your status whether you're giving or not. I dont like to check the site everytime and since my comment are still waiting in moderation I might lose hope and think your site as a fraud or a scam. I think someone already create a discussion about this on steamgift. but today ill wait

Eventually he updated his website by posting these 2 messages on the front page and the "order section":

    Letter to the community

I haven’t been able to meet the demand. This is because:
1) I wasn’t prepared to get so many people on it. This resulted in terrible game-request methods and stats validation methods.
2) I lack the budget to immediately put up systems that will cover customers’ needs, although I have clear ideas of how to do it.
3) Knowing this is incredibly frustrating as I completely understand I missed up on one of my best opportunities ever. This clouded my judgement.
4) Muscle relaxation meds have made me sleep for over 12 hours a day lately. I quit them today because I’m barely ever awake.

What I intend to do about it:

– Apologize on the site and get the site up and running with all the systems it needs as soon as possible. I’m sorry for troubles I might have caused. I want to do it the right way, and I know I how.

Maybe you guys will give me a second chance when this is done right.

Thank you.

Starting today, the site is getting more attention as I just solved some big personal issues I had. SORRY!

Truth be told, I never expected to get so popular this fast.
Getting new site systems to accomodate to demands is the priority right now.
If your comment is awaiting moderation, please hold, and know new systems for support, order and delivery are coming.

Older orders will get processed. For new orders, please wait for the automatic order interface.

As you can see he doesn't mention anywhere that the website is going down indefinitively (wait for the upcoming conversation) and that people should stop mining and don't expect rewards. Instead he clearly says that a new order system is priority and even right now the miner is still there and so is the order section. He's implying that if someone wants, he can continue mining in order to stack coins for future orders.

After all this I wanted to find a way to contact him and I managed to do it in a previous giveaway of him here on SG. As you'll see he's not able to deliver what he promised anymore but he's not clarifying this in his website, he's letting people hope and still mining. The conversation ended with him blacklisting me because I didn't like his reply at the end where, like he said, whatever we did was nothing to him while he was the one who set the rules this way.

I think I was pretty kind to him until the end while I was the one who got scammed because I was mining a lot for days (even if it's nothing for him from one person) and didn't get anything in return. Also, that I didn't ask for a special treatment but just an update is the proof that he tried to add me on Steam after he mentioned not to ask for an exception and I ignored his request. If I had to guess he was trying to make me stop exposing him by sending me a game I want.

Here's the conversation:

  • -
Me: Hey buddy I have sent you an email because my comments are awaiting moderation for over a week. Please keep us updated at least for how long we need to wait. I'm still mining for you because I want to support you to overcome any difficulties but I think I deserve an honest reply.
  • -
He: I truly appreciate your support, but you should stop. The site will go down in a couple of days. I had plans to improve a lot of things, but health issues and some other personal problems stepped in so I don't have the money to make the necessary improvements. What everyone mined sums up to around a dollar, which was fine, I didn't plan to make ends meet during launch period. It would have worked out really well if I the improvements could have been arranged. When I get back on my feet and save up, get it all implemented, it should open like a tremorgames site but much easier and diverse, no offers or game achievements, earning through a lot of other stuff instead. Sorry, and thank you.
  • -
Me: I understand. So you are not going to deliver any game not even what you promised on the launch?
  • -
He: I delivered over 10 games, actually. Including a couple of more expensive ones. I halted activity after those. This includes marooners, seasons after fall, human fall flat etc.
  • -
Me: So it's a "no" for me. Ok thanks for the answers gl and get well soon.
  • -
He: It is a "yes" since some games were delivered, the "no" is for the "are they still going to get delivered"
  • -
Me: Maybe I spelled it wrong english isn't my native language. I mean it's a "no" to me. You won't deliver any game to me but like I said it's ok I took a good lesson not to spend free time and effort for nothing next time. No hard feelings.
  • -
He: I wouldn't call it "effort" or even "time" spent considering how it worked, but either way opening up one single exception is unfair to everyone else.

As you can see my intent was to end it nicely much sooner until this reply which triggered me so badly. The upcoming comment is edited with the PS after his Steam friend request.

  • -
Me: It's not a good idea to start pushing it. You don't have the right to call it anything while you don't know what everyone had to do to mining for you plus you are the one who set the rules which we were followed. You promised something that you didn't deliver so don't try to justify it like this. Especially while you are letting the community still mining in the dark (even right now) by not clarifying on the front page or replying the posts that you won't deliver anything. I said to myself to let it go but you provoke by saying "meh you did nothing for me". You are on the edge of legal lines my friend so don't push it. PS. I didn't ask for an exception I don't want anything anymore.
  • -
He: How one calls it isn't a matter of opinion since it is quantifiable. Thanks for the advice, but I didn't push, I'm not pushing it, and I won't push it. I know you didn't ask for anything. I feel very rude when I ignore people and I'd prefer avoid it, and it doesn't feel like you're going to stop messaging me since you felt "provoked", so I'm sure you'll understand this is why I just blocked you.

That's the story guys. So if you still mining and hope you'll get a reward there just stop wasting your time. He won't deliver anything and now you know it. Peace. <3

I haven't seen such a wall of text since the Berlin Wall fell :x

(Although I stopped reading at "A few days ago someone created a discussion here to present his new website where you can mine cryptocurrency for him", so I guess it was just a brick of text.)

Yup SG's text editor is confusing me a lot. Sorry for this text wall but if you are not involved in that website isn't necessary to read it. 😀

Nothing to be sorry of :) The whole crypto mining thing is beyond me but it might interest other people here.

If you want to mine crypto you definitely should, just don't do it for someone else. Think if you'd gotten in on bitcoin mining early and traded your coins for a couple of cheap bundle games, no thanks!

I did it because it was requested there so to get games I'm not a fan of crypto mining. And I kept mining like many others did (and still doing) because I wanted to earn as many coins as I can for future orders.

Mining via a browser is a terrible idea in general. Unless you're a rogue webmaster who wants to profit on the back of visitors (like some big, well-known torrent website has reportedly been doing lately).
If you want to mine for yourself, do it via proper mining software (JavaScript thingies are not proper mining software): it will mine faster and you'll remain in control.

Yeh I know although it's his problem if it doesn't work. We did what is requested and it's understandable if his idea didn't work. Personally I can accept the fact that I won't get anything BUT the big issue here is that he's letting people still hope and mining which is very very bad. Not to mention that it's also illegal and it should stop.

Sounds like he should just shut the site down (and if he wants to apologize put up a letter) rather than keep it live for people to continue to use it.
I remember seeing the thread about the site, but I never explored it.
Thanks for the warning though and hope those still mining sees this.

Yes I hope so.

Why should he shut the site down if he is getting people farming money for him for free? (That's my interpretation after reading OP's post)

Obviously a scammer won't stop scamming as long as it's profitable.
But on the off-chance that he's legit sorry it didn't work out and don't want to get even worse reputation he should shut it down.

The "should" in my post was obviously meant as in it's the right thing to do, not the thing he's going to do.

Sounds exactly like what I expected as I read his thread. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm sorry for your wasted time 😞

Thank you but my wasted time isn't a big deal. He had an idea that didn't work. Fine we can accept that but he should have been honest and let the people know, not exploiting them depending on their hope even now as we speak.

" to present his new website where you can mine cryptocurrency for him with your browser"

That sounds like a scam from the get-go

The cost in order to get a game on the website's launch was pretty low actually. The miner was set to just 1 core at 50% speed earning 1 coin per minute. So you could "buy" for example Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide for 1000 coins by using 15% of a midrange cpu for about 17 hours. You could easily try and see if it's legit or not.

To be honest, i mined for him even when cg removed the post which i shouldn't have. The mining app got blocked when i first ran it, i had to exclude it from my antivirus .. its named as coinhive.min.js .. after running overnight, next day i realized it attempted to install another miner which my antivirus blocked - https://imgur.com/a/bXV6w as soon as i got that , i immediately stopped mining .. i totally agree if he is putting a hold on the project, he should as well announce it with clear message and remove the miner temporarily till he continue it later.. i can tell many people are still mining and hoping for a prize as the current announcement isn't clear at all. Well, lesson learned .

Make sure you clear your browser cache, cookies of the site and run a system drive scan to make sure.

It's the same miner every site uses these days. 99% false positive and the AV doesn't like this java script because it uses cpu. As long as you are aware of what you're doing it's quite safe for your system and "virus free".

His discussion also was closed for advertising not anything else. I'm not trying to defend him I just want to be fair because everyone has rights. Let's focus on how is he acting right now by not taking down his website.

I dont have anything against him, steamgifts admin mentioned in his thread that he won't make much comparing to the games that he is giving away, he mentioned something like the miner has to run at full power for weeks before he make a buck.

The thing that got me worried is , when a user asked him if he is mining bitcoin he said he is mining some other coin, but then my antivirus caught a second script and blocked it from installing that bitcoinminer.sx, even when his miner script ''coinhive.min.js'' is already running. If this second script is a part of his miner, then it should have had ran when i started the miner right ? but it attempted to run when i left my pc with his miner running overnight.

Again, i am not trying to take his website down .. i learned my lesson and i will stay away from this but this is just a warning cause i believe there's another miner script that attempts to install on your chrome cache and run whenever you use your browser.
