Truth be said, these old HDDs you just need to hammer a bit, the casing will be intact, the data inside will be all lost u.u
But I can understand the pleasure of destroying anything with a sledgehammer!

You're sure? I've seen some of these odl guys be lost after falling on the grond, usualy hammering even not destroying will fill it with so many bad blocks that it became a good brick.

i always keep the magnets - got like 20 of them on my fridge xD

also the point of drilling, the photo show he was drilling the main shaft/core, try drilling over the platers, it should cut in like butter.
