I'm guessing you had the Special Edition DLC? The price of the upgrade seems on par if i remember correctly.

Same here, I owned the Special Edition DLC and MotN Remastered appeared in my library.

Oh man, this might just be a good excuse to play this amazing game all over again...

First link doesn't lead anywhere and second link leads to the game's hub. Intentional?

Might be free only for special edition owners. I see someone on my friendlist as owning the remaster, but I don't have it myself (didn't have the DLC beforehand)

I had the DLC beforehand and the remaster showed up in my lib also. No idea how much I paid for it, but it probably was similar to the upgrade.

Looks like I own both. Checking records show I bought the special edition during the 2016 steam Autumn sale. I have not played it yet.. Looks good.

Thanks for letting us know. ;)

u should try it. For me this is one of the best games on steam and I finished it 3 times with 45 hours playtime :)

Impressive. Must be very good. I just installed "Cornerstone The Song Of Tyrim" last night with the intention of playing it next. Perhaps this will have to get looked at once the remastered is released in a couple weeks. I do like stealth games.

3x? Man you're dedicated. Beaten it once :(

Did you speed run it? I finished it twice with 100% achievements in 42.4 hours. I did a stealth run and a kill everything run. I'm definitely going to play it again, but it will have to wait until November, I have my scary games picked out for October.

yeap, my third replay was fast run,

will replay remaster too (and probably also in November, since I started Torchlight II and that's a long game :p)

I don't remember buying or winning this game at all, but it's already in my library. Looks like I'll have to give this one a go when it's released!

I bought the DLC at some point so I got this upgrade :)
I actually never got to play the DLC, I bought it months after finishing the base game and never got around to reinstalling it and giving it a go, I think I did the same thing with one or two other games.

Try the DLC. It's quite fun and challenging. They add some new interesting weapons to try while you CANNOT kill enemies, only knock them out.

My "plan to play soon" list is quite populated but I do plan to get around to playing that DLC some day :P

Remastering a very successful 2d game instead of making a sequel...

Coming to Steam and for the first time, play this critically acclaimed game on PlayStation™, Nintendo Switch™, and Xbox One™

I think this is the reason of remaster - Klei wants to sell this game for different platforms, not only for PC

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That makes a lot of sense. So they probably are working on a sequel.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That seems reasonable. Though why they elected to downscale the art assets in the game for the PC release in the first place is a fair question.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It looks like a pretty simple remaster though, re-exporting vector art to 4K rather than 720p

the speical edition was the DLC. if you buy the Upgrade, which has the same price as the DLC/Special Edition, $4.99, you get the DLC for the vanialla version as well. https://steamdb.info/sub/310210/apps/

I don't think the DLC was ever in a bundle, I got the game from a Humble bundle, and bought the DLC when it was on sale.

I don't think the DLC was ever in a bundle

Not by itself but the Special Edition was in Tier 3 of Humble Weekly Platforming Bundle. Like you I got the base game from Humble Indie Bundle 9 and then bought the DLC on sale though.

probably yes

whats the price?

The same

I think so because on the Steam store the Special Edition DLC for the original game has changed name to Mark of the Ninja: Remastered Upgrade:

https://www.klei.com/games/mark-ninja

Enhanced Visuals - The original in-game art was compressed to 720p, despite the source material being originally drawn at a much higher resolution. In the remaster we’ve re-exported everything in high definition up to full 4k resolution on supported hardware.
Included Special Edition DLC - Adds Dosan's tale. Play as a young Dosan, get new unique items, an additional story level and unlocked developer commentary nodes throughout the original game.
Remastered Cinematics - All scenes exported at 4K resolution, polished and most scenes have been reanimated for additional detail.
Character & Background Enhancements - Characters have been re-exported from the original vector graphics and all backgrounds have dramatically increased resolution. The remastered visuals allow for never before seen detail and overall reduced banding and other artifacts, even when playing on standard 1080p monitors and devices.
5.1 Surround - All new 5.1 surround mix for the entire game. In-game audio uses new high quality compression and the cinematic audio is completely redone to improve both fidelity and quality.

Not a complaint against your post but I find the 5.1 surround mix in a 2d game a bit curious, but who knows maybe it does give you a better sense of your surroundings

Edit: Corrected sloppy spelling/grammar
