Next time, I recommend trying Ironside. You'll get better customization options and a better computer overall for a lot cheaper than alienware. I used them to get a base for my latest build (since I didn't want to dedicate the time to wiring and stuff) and just got a few upgrades on my own.

Are you using 1080p resolution when playing on HD 7770? I'm intending to get it and I have a 1080p monitor, the bechmarks I've seen seem playable, but I'd like the opinion of a real, non-bias person. Is the performance good in modern games, such as BF3?

Yes, I play on 1080p and I have to say that the framerates are quite good, it could be better but that's just because of my old CPU. In BF3, I easly get at least 30-40FPS on Ultra, on Low it's around 70. So it's pretty much playable :)

Sounds very playable. I'd be happy to drop the settings down to mid/high to have more constant FPS of around 45-60, but 40 is perferctly playable too.

I'm just wondering, which version of the Sapphire card do you have? I was thinking of going with Sapphire as well, their cards typically seem to have higher clock speeds / quality cooling. However, I'm not sure which one to go with. There's a regular version, an OC version and an OC version with dual Vapor-X fans.

I got this one, it's the regular HD7770 GHZ Edition, but you should definitely get the Vapor-X edition, it comes OC'd out of the box with the best cooling possible

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The one you have is actually the one I was thinking of getting. It is about £15 cheaper than the Vapor-X one, and I don't really think those coolers will make enough of a difference to spend that much more.
Anyways, thanks for the help and suggestions. I think I'll go for an OC version of the one you have.
