You can only get VAC banned if you somehow manage to use it on a VAC restricted multiplayer game server. SAM won't get you banned but they'll slap you on the wrist and reset all of your shit if they catch you.
But you're right, using it defeats the purpose.

You will get a nasty mark in your profile aswell, seen a few guys busted that was limited to not beeing able to buy/trade for awhile as a punishment.

I don't give a fuck about achivement, I just wants the damn free gamezzzz from the event. Since I already ticket Steam Support and told them why the fuck My witcher keep redownload from beginning if there is an update. But it is been a couple days and still no respond. FML

Yeah, so the forums would be really fucking quiet if we only posted about third-world problems. Perhaps we should just keep posting about whatever the fuck we want and you can keep the "First world problems." shit for Twitter? ;)

I will if I have the game installed. Problem is it took me a week to download a game with 10GB++ size, and this fucking game revert back to 0%

Yell at the internet provider, 10gb should never take a week, should take a couple hours...Its a shame howm any companies are still this damn bad.
Sorry to hear that...

There will be always a way , unless there was some developers who are not frequent on updating their games , you could just not even risk it , or just get what you want .
From my experience with SAM , If you use the software once , it is hard not to abuse it, unless you have some high will power not to tinker with 3rd party software's , especially for those who find it fun going for competitive ranking on the custom ranks sites like Steam Achievement Hunters .
Thankfully I'm glad I checked it SAM myself once , since I'm looking forward to go through the hard path of programming language , software's like these are an interesting tool to realize in how much further you can interact with a program of high-caliber like Steam .
However I'm speaking from my mind about this ^^ .

It still surprises me that people use the term "legal" when talking about ToS.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, ToS are a contract, and some (though I don't think Valve's, because I usually refuse those ones) can enable their creators to legally penalize you in ways other than termination of use.
Comment has been collapsed.
Emmm... No, sorry. They can take NO legal action if you do something that is against the ToS alone. Suck as using SAM. Are they going to sue you for money because to cheated and added achievements to your account? No and they can't. They can terminate your account, yes, but using the word LEGAL is a different ball park.
Comment has been collapsed.
But it is legal: it is established in the contract (ToS) that if you break the rules (cheat) they can terminate your account. And it's you who can't take legal action against them for doing so, since you broke the contract. That's how it is legal.
Comment has been collapsed.
if you read them, a surprisingly large number of them include you authorizing the issuer of the terms to pursue further legal action beyond termination of the account for breach of contract and other assorted similar things.

I use it on tf2 to reset my achievements once I get most of them. Never got banned or warned.
Comment has been collapsed.
Not that I'm aware, and I've been searching. There is a way to reset stats, not achievements.
Comment has been collapsed.
Be careful, apparently you can get banned from S.Gifts chat for just talking about SAM, let alone linking to it.

Source would be me getting fucking banned for that exact thing.

No one ever got banned using SAM outside of VAC secured servers, and if you are using SAM while in-game and on VAC server, than you deserve to be banned. As for Valve stance toward using it, officially they are against it, but they dont care that you unlock some pointless social hooks if you want them, they only time SAM was mentioned in correlation with bans was during coal hunt because cheaters used it on their alts to unlock coal, but those bans had nothing to do with SAM, they were banned for circumventing the coal distribution system.
tl;dr, its perfectly safe to use, no one cares

My friend used SAM for those christmas achievements last year, he gots lotsa coal and ended up getting banned.
honhonhon

You can use it, you are not going to get any kind of ban. Don't listen to morons who say otherwise, they never tried S.A.M. and they're happy to re-earn all achievements.

Volunteer Moderator posted this in Steam forums: " SAM follows the rule Valve have with any other 3rd party programs, which is: "use it at your own risk". That being said, they do not seem to be considering it a way to cheat the system at the moment. However, they could change their minds and wouldn't have to let you know about it. If SAM allows you to unlock an achievement a game failed to unlock, then that's great. If you're using it to unlock all the achievements for a specific game, then you definitely missed the point of achievements. That's all.".

No risks with SAM.
People who got sanctioned during the Christmas events where those who had dozens even hundreds of accounts which they used to farm all the free games.. Those deserved a lifetime ban for their main account. A shame they brought so much attention around SAM though.
I occasionally use SAM to unlock stuff on my only account which is more thant $2K worth. I wouldn't be using it if I thought there was any risk.
I've been playing PC games long before that trend of having achievements, stats and unlocks everywhere. I paid money for those games for Christ's sake. If unlocking an achievement grants access to weapons and stuff, I'll use SAM rather than spending a ridiculous amount of time trying to achieve a specific task.
Kids love achievements, I don't.

Kids love achievements, I don't.
This is the stupidest thing I've recently read. You are just too lazy and awkward to get them (weapons). You would have them AFTER some effort from your side by playing the game. That's the whole point of most games. You don't get unlocked ALL missions at the start. You don't get all weapons. You don't get infinite cash. Cheating is just pathetic.

So my fucking Witcher 2 just went back to 0% when it reached 80%, will took me almost a week to redownload from beginning.
So, is it legal to use SAM since it seems Steam Achivement hunting event is coming. Because it is confirmed that Witcher 2 have summer sale achivement.
