If you're looking for more RPG type games than MOBAs or fun multiplayer deathmatch romps like TF2 (surprised Gotham City Imposters hasn't made the list yet, but it is a bit bad), you could try some of the many MMORPGs that are f2p and are on steam, like Mabinogi, La Tale, Fiesta, Ragnarok Online, Rusty Hearts (more of a dungeon crawler than RPG) and Dungeon Fighter Online.

Or, you could try out Warframe. Cyborg Space Ninjas with guns! Also my current favourite for F2P since there really is no 'pay to win' aspect, only 'pay for bonus perks that are helpful but not necessary' like extra weapon slots, frame slots, and cosmetic items. The only iffy part is buying color palettes, it seems weird to pay for the priviledge of using a specific shade of purple.

DotA 2 or TF2 needs abit of grinding and sometimes u need to buy some stuff to get better drops and stuff... There is also Spiral Knights but u would need to grind for months to get the last boss which can pay you nicely like even 5 runs of it can get you any 2-5$ Steam game by trading

CE mostly u can exchange crowns for them. There are some boss runs like Jelly King , Lord Val(if that is his name I forgot) which gives u alot of crowns and the token use the token to buy some gear and sell it to npc for crowns. Val gives u 7k crowns per run and 30 tokens for a 30k item to sell

World of Tanks.
It's not on Steam but it's one of the top earners in Free2Play, actually even the top. Not sure about exact value anymore but it's around 4,3$ per head. For comparison, even Team Fortress 2 is way below this.
And they got that successfull because of the great Free2Play model. You still have parts of grinding. But investing money doesn't give you any real advantage, you can only "save time" a bit. And this not even much, there are already weekly/daily/monthly missions to do, there you can get pretty much enough credits to buy new tanks without Premium Account.
And with skills you don't have to pay any cent, it's even then as fast as some guys with premium account. Even the special premium tanks are always weaker than their regular tank on it's tier.
€dit: Not to mention the high amount of players. They have already that much "registered" accounts, approximate every 100th in the world is playing World of Tanks. They even have the guiness world record for most players online at time on the RU server. Next to this, they beated their own record several times.

WoT is the biggest grindgame ever to have excisted since Lineage. I played WoT since beta but stopped a half year ago, got 7 tier X tanks, it takes you waaaaaay to much time to get 1 tier X without premium, it's almost impossible, also without having a premium tank next to your premium account it takes lot's of time to gather millions of credits.

League of Legends...BY FAR. Not only can you buy every meaningful thing in the game without spending a dime of real money, but the most meaningful thing to character development, which are runes, can ONLY be bought with in-game currency, which means that no douche-bag with his parents black card can ever get ahead of others without playing a shit ton of games. Also, the fact that skins can only be bought with real money ensures that Riot's wallet doesn't suffer from this system either. And believe me, it's so awesome and addictive, you'll WANT to pay real money just so your champion will look awesome while kicking ass(or the opposite, get whacked but at least look awesome while being smashed). It's not on Steam, but it's the most played game on Earth today. There's a reason for that. If not for the somewhat iffy community (myself included :D ), I'd say it's better than Dota 2. If you want it to be n Steam, I think Hawken is your best bet, but Dota 2 seems to be pretty fair as well.

Edit: just realized my entire post is worthless. Not only don't you like MOBAs, but you actually WANT to spend money. Certainly a weird one. Blacklight Retribution seems to be the least annoying pay2win game at this moment, in my opinion. Normally I'd say it sucks dunkey-balls, but you asked for it.

P.S. What's wrong with MOBAs? They're awesome.

Actually yeah, I suggested Dota 2 but since he wants to pay then it is better if he goes to LoL, he will have to pay to get all heroes and runes, coz if he doesn't pay he will be in disadvantage and he will need to grind 54 cents per hour to get RP and unlock heroes, runes...etc , I guess that is kinda what he wants.

www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/2a7fkg/riot_works_us_like_slaves_heres_the_proof/

TLDR: Anyway OP MOBA games are good and you should try them, and if you wanna pay go for LoL, you need to pay to get all heroes, if you ever change your mind and you wanna play with all heroes without spending a cent then go for Dota 2 and pay only for cosmetic stuff.

You didn't read anything I wrote, did you? ALL HEROES IN LOL can be bought with influence points, which is the IN-GAME currency(in translation, the points you earn exclusively by playing games). You can buy'em with RP, sure, if you want to speed up the process, but it'll hardly give you any advantage, cause learning to play a new champion is hard work and you can fail as hard with it as with a free one. Also, there are 10 new champions free each week, so you have a lot of time to pick the handful you'll like most and buy them. Having all champions is a stupid man's goal. Given that there are more than 130 now and the vast majority of them are in the highest price tier(both with IP and RP), you'll never have enough time to even learn to play half of them well(unless you literally have no other life than this). Also, like I said, runes CAN NOT be bought with real money...EVER, so I really don't know what you're babbling about. Only things that can only be bought with real money are skins for champions, which are purely visual upgrades and HAVE NO EFFECT OVER THE GAME-PLAY. This ensures that the developers have a steady flux of income without making the game IN ANY WAY pay2win and also encourages players to not spend their money on champions, as they can also be bought with influence points and if you do so, you won't be able to look posh when stomping your adversaries(an important thing, believe me). Paying for champions in LOL is also stupid because like I said, they're very expensive. Most of them are close to 1000 RP, which means about 4 euro, so you gotta have a lot of money to do it. And you'll still need to grind in order to farm influence points if you want runes. So, in conclusion, League of Legends is BY FAR the most non-pay2win free2play game out there. It's all grind, grind, grind, exactly the opposite of what he wants. Stop misinforming people. Did you even play the effin' game?

"Average IP cost per Champion = 3831
Average per win = 102 IP
Average game time = 33.4 Minutes."

Ergo, you need to play around 19 hours (and win nearly every game) to buy one "average-cost" hero.

It has good sides and bad sides - if you're going to specialize in 2, 3 champions then it won't really matter after 100 hours.
But if you want them all for free, there's over 200 champions so you'd need around 4000 hours of mostly won games...

Agh, you talk as if, I dunna, playing the game was some kind of chore. Isn't that the whole fucking point? You buy champions, you're supposed to use them in-game and that requires that YOU PLAY THE GAME. And you play for fun, which is the whole point of buying champions in the first place. Besides, even the lowest learning curve champions, like Garen, require at least a few days of intense playing to get into. And he also has a low skill-cap(which means he's both easy to learn and to master). Keep in mind there are other champions like Jayce or Lee Sin who have pretty low learning curves too, but their skill caps are VERY HIGH, which means even though you may think you can play them very well(and you might genuinely do so thanks to their raw power), you're actually miles away from learning all their ins, outs, advanced capabilities and all around true potential. And there are also champions, like LeBlanc for example, with both high learning curves and high skills caps. You know how much time and frustration it takes to play these champions to their full extent? Unless you're a pro or something, there's no way you can have enough time to learn all champions, so what the hell would be the point in buying them all, even if you're the richest motherfucker in existence and you get RP like breakfast cereal? I have more than half the champions. Could hsve bought more, since I'm playing since 2011, but what's the fucking point? I've only mastered about 1/3 of the ones I have and from the rest of them, I can barely play half at a competent level. Don't have the willpower to learn champions I dislike playing and you can't fucking tell me that there are people who will instantly like ALL CHAMPIONS and have no preferences. But to say that with this system you can only specialize in 2 or 3 is VERY FAR-FETCHED. Also, buying a champion with RP is not an unfair advantage over others, as any champion, even a cheap one, has the potential to be great in capable hands. What I'm saying is a champion you think is cool and you buy with real money is in no way a guarantee of instant victory, quite the opposite. That's the definitive proof that it's in no way pay-to-win. As for Dota 2, I'm not quite familiar with their system, but you can't tell me that anyone can play any champion at any time.

1) Use paragraphs, it's those wall of texts are hard to read.

2) 4000 hours - that's half a year of non-stop playing. No sleeping, school or work. Nor toilet. Nor waiting for next game. That's kinda big wall if - for some reason - you want to have every one unlocked.

3) Actually, in Dota 2 every champion is playable from the moment they are released and they are for everyone whenever they want.

It's a game that first came out in 2009 and is currently the most played in the world, so that means it won't be going away anytime soon. Which in turn means one has all the time in the world and those 4000 hours can be made in a number of years. The only reason I see for someone to collect them all in record time would be complete insanity, an unhealthy maniacal obsession that would end in one's death. For such a person, not being able to collect the champions would be the least of his worries.

I myself play since 2011. I could have probably had them all by now if I really wanted, without playing more than 6 games a day or so(which is still a lot, I know, but people pay for their obsessions). But I didn't bother. Yes, if you really want them all you'd have to pay real money, but it still wouldn't do you any real good in games, so it's still a fair system because you can with a few champion beat anyone who has any number of champions, given how, in the end, in any given game, you can only use ONE AT A TIME. Like I said, you have an obsession, only seems natural you pay for it(either with time or money).

I guess it is pretty nice in Dota 2 you can play any hero whenever you want, but that kind of makes hero specialization a non-issue. I really liked the feeling that LoL gave me in the early days when I used to find a champion I really liked amongst the free ones and so when the week changed I had a new goal of IP set cause I really wanted to buy said champion. It was about accomplishment, fighting for something you want, a purpose for all those games I was winning(or even losing).

The only thing kind of iffy I find with Riot's system isn't the existence of the grinding itself, but rather how excruciatingly slow it is. They could amp up the IP reward system a bit, in that I agree with you.

It affects gameplay if I can't play hero that you can, you have advantage, it is really simlpe.

Then if you have runes and masteries that I don't have that is also affecting gameplay, it doesn't matter if you can unlock them for "free" by grinding 2 years, LoL is grind or pay and it is not good free to play system, but it is good for guy who created this thread since he's anyway looking to pay for things.

Read link I posted, it is from LoL reddit community, to unlock everything you need to pay or grind like slave, 54 cents per hour, so yeah gl with that.

Things like heroes and runes needs to be free in order to call LoL free to play game, for now LoL is just "free" (grind or pay) to play.

Dude, are u fucking retarded? RUNES can NEVER EVER be payed for with real money...EVER. You're talking without knowing anything here. Can't stress this enough, they can only be paid for with INFLUENCE POINTS. And they are THE ONLY MARKETABLE THING in the game which affect gameplay. Masteries can't even be bought. You get one point at each level and you can only level up...you guess it...BY PLAYING GAMES.

And it doesn't matter how many champions you buy with real money, if you can't fucking play them well. Also, doesn't matter how fucking many champions you have, cause guess what, you can ONLY USE ONE in each game. Plus, it has the 10 free champions per week rule. If you're too incompetent to pick up a free champion and do at least moderately well with him, I'm sorry, I don't think that's Riot's fault. You want a champion, you work for it. What are you, some spoiled rich brat who wants to have everything served on a platter?

Also, you do know that Reddit is a fucking humor community, right? People post JOKES there. Don't take everything you read there so literal. You're not slaving for Riot by playing their game, because YOU PLAY A GAME, not do a house chore. And you winning influence points is not beneficial for them in any way. Riot's system is very good, because guess what, you will play the fucking game anyway, cause that's why you're there. Might as well get a reward for that.

There are tons of games who have in-game currency and in most cases it isn't worth shit. In this case, you can buy anything except skins with it and that's a fair deal. You don't like grind, I get it. Well, boo-hoo!! The system is made especially for turds like you who are impatient and would rather pull out their credit cards then fucking play some games and experiment with champions they don't know. So Riot capitalizes on the stupidity of idiots. I say: let them. Nothing wrong there cause they deserve it.

P.S. Oh BTW, Riot has A LOT of statistics made on their game. And one of them says that a very high percentage of the micro-transactions done in LoL are the purchases of SKINS. You know, those visual things that have no effect on game-play whatsoever, which you were talking about them existing in Dota 2 too. So seriously, you're just an ignorant douche who has no idea what he's talking about.

Why you flame? Is that how you act when you lose arguments?

If you have a limited champion pool, a limited rune pool, and even those are even more limited by the amount of rune pages you have, this means that you, and your opponent (for argument's sake let's say they are both at exactly the equal skill level) are not on even ground, even if you are both as skilled, if one has a larger pool he has more options, if he has played a lot of more games he has more options for runes and runepages.

The pay2win argument comes from "Grind or pay", meaning you have to grind a lot of games before you can be on equal footing with someone who has paid for champions with real money, and spent the IP on runes.

Sure, you can unlock all the content if you play enough, but that doesn't mean that there is not an element of pay2win in the game present.

One more note, by pay2win this obviously does not mean Pay and you get free challenger, it's not that severe, but there is an element of it, if you and your opponent are both equally skilled but you haven't paid for anything with real money, or played enough games, and the opponent has, he has an inherent advantage over you.

Of course you can simply get better at the game and this effect lowers, if you are a gold player in bronze for example with no runes, you won't notice it as much.

I simply dislike everyone who says that there is no p2w in the game in any way what so ever, because players are not on even footing in the game, that is supposed to be competitive.

Don't flame people if you can't change fact that in LOL you don't have all gameplay stuff available on start.

"P.S. What's wrong with MOBAs? They're awesome."

Not really, many people hate them, and yeah all of them. Personally I think they are gross and have gross/elitist communities. I have tried LoL also....not any better then Dota 2.

Nothing wrong with wanting to spend money on a free game, supports the devs and if the games fair without money spending that great and they should be awarded for it, thats one thing free MOBA's tend to have, fair f2P methods.

If you're looking to play a f2p game where money actually plays a big part towards your enjoyment, then you really can't go wrong with The Old Republic. You pretty much NEED to buy from the cash shop if you want to alleviate the frustration that comes from playing the game without subscribing.

That is pretty much by definition an example of a bad pay model.

A good pay model let's you play the game; getting a complete experience that's not hammering you over the head to pay2play or deliberately makes it frustrating to play without paying. A good model is generally one that offers the full experience (often at a tradeoff of Pay2AvoidGrind sometimes) and makes you actively want to pay to support it/enhance the experience because you're having fun, not because you're missing important game parts or frustrated.
