F2P game with a good pay model?

The only F2P game that hooked me was DC Universe Online. It does the whole monthly subscription where you get access to everything, but it also gives the option to buy content so you'll always have access to it even if you don't pay the monthly fee. I'm not a big DC fan but I do think they did a great job of presenting the DC universe in an MMO direction. I also really enjoy the combat and the ridiculous amount of customization in the game. Plus it's a game that actually rewards achievement hunters. You can't really maximize your character without being somewhat OCD about it.

The problem you might have with it is that not everything is available to purchase with Steam wallet. You can purchase the content packs with wallet, but that's about it. You can't pay for a monthly subscription. You can't buy upgrades to how much cash you can carry or how many pack or bank slots you have available. That becomes a pretty huge barrier to enjoying the game at max level.

Warframe got a fair pay model + you can trade some items in it for platinum with other players.
Now for what you may need to spend money in warframe and how much.

1. Let me start with the fact that everyday you may get 20%/50% or 75% discount coupon for 1/2 days for next purchase(active at the spot)

2. Every weapon/warframe/sentinel is obtainable in game.

3. You will need to spend money mostly on Inventory Slots : 12 plat for 2 wep slots and 20plat for 1 warframe slot.
   4 Prices for plat are :
   $5=75plat
   $10=170plat
   $20=370plat
   $50=1050 plat
   $100=2100plat
   $200=4300 plat

4. You can spend plat also on accessories which prices varies from 50-100 plat..sometimes more sometimes less.
   Accessories could be - skin,profile icon,customize armor pieces,syandana,color palette(each color palette is 75% and includes 90 colors/shades)

5. To improve your weapons you can buy for 20plat each : Orokin Reactor,Orokin Catalyst,Forma. They also often come from alerts with Forma being reward for doing special missions(Orokin Tower).

6. One last thing that you may thing to spend money on in Warframe : Boosters . Booster price depends on the duration you want to get: 3days=40play,7days=70plat. If I plan to use booster I prepare several unranked weps and rank them up.

There aren't too many F2P games with a decent pay model, especially on steam. Off steam, theres Hearthstone, which isn't too bad with its model. Warframe I heard is pretty good too but has a fair amount of grinding. Infinity Wars is now on steam, its a TCG and cards are pretty balanced. TF2 has a balanced pay model since there aren't any restrictive or p2w features. If Loadout finally got balanced, then it should be a good f2p game.

Path of Exile has an excellent pay model. The only items you can buy with real money (assuming you ignore the RMT market which is going to exist whether the devs like it or not) are cosmetics.
