Hi guys,
My names Natan and I have a few questions regarding hardware and if I will have any problems upgrading any part of my PC.
To start here are my specs:

Intel Core I5 2500k 3.3ghz

8gb of DDR3 RAM

Nvidia 560ti 1gb GPU

ASUS P8Z68 VLX

700w PSU

Now I've heard from a lot of people that my Processor is currently fine for gaming etc and not in need of serious upgrading.
However I am in the need of a new GPU, I am currently looking at the Nvidia GTX 980. I do not know however if any of specs will bottleneck it etc so am looking for advice concerning this particular choice.
If you have a recommendation of a better upgrade choice I'd love to hear it!! :)
cheers guys,
Natan

well to put it simply I want to be able to play game for the next 3 years... Not necessarily on max settings.
While the 560ti still manages to hold up, It is starting to show it's age.

while the 980 is as of right now overpowered, is it not more or less the same price like the 780 ?

if u have the money for the 980 than it´s probally better but with the gtx 780 u would have no problems and if u wanna play games for like 3 years than u need a better cpu too ;)

ah ok, cheers :) in this case what CPU would you recommend ?
main thing I'm going for here is 3 years of not needing a upgrade to play games.

So i would say 2 setups :
Lower Budget : an Intel Xeon E3-1231(it´s has nearly the same specs as the i 7 , Gtx 780 8gb ram is very ok maybe 16 but i think its fine ;)

Higher Priced : Intel i7 4770 K Gtx 980 :D

So would a I5 2500k not really work with likes of a 780 ?

it will but the upcoming games will need more cpu power and your i5 will die like in 1 year

ah ok thanks, I'll hold off upgrading my cpu for now then. (don't really have the budget to upgrade both.)
so which is the best for GPU's ? Asus, Evga, or MSi etc

i would say asus because : asus have a very smart cooling design and its the quit ones and the card is also easy to overclock ;)

If you spell your name backwards its the same.
I havent played the "Get informed for PC hardware" sport lately and I cant really help you -_- . Tom's Hardware is a good site to look-ask around.

haha I've always been amused and quite happy that I can spell my name backwards and yet not have it change, guilty pleasure of mine! :)
cheers for the website.

Your system is fine and it will NOT bottleneck a new GPU. If you're interested in a GTX980, also consider a GTX970: quite close performance for almost half the price.

thanks... think I'll go for the 970. :)

I agree on the 970. While I am really pleased with my 980s, I do admit that they are overkill. Another plus to the 970 vs. 780 will be the PSU demand as some of the greatest improvements with the 900 series are in their diminished power demands and subsequent diminished heat produced. I also recommend taking that savings and going for a respectable size hybrid, or a mid-size SSD. If you do not already have one, you will not regret the upgrade. Honestly, if I could afford to completely remove my largest drive with SSD I would... it is a night and day improvement. I will admit however though that the only place I have installed any Hybrids are in my PS3 & PS4. My PCs OS and my more recent games are on SSD. However, from what I have read the SSD Hybrid still drastically improves load times, and that is where the average user is really going to be impressed anyway (so, as with anything you read anywhere... take it for what it is worth).

I've never really heard of a SSHD but they sound incredibly convenient!
Thanks for the recommendation !

You might wanna check Game-Debate as well. They offer a quite nice overview of different system builds and the benchmark results. To get a basic overview in performance and technologie differences you might check these
CPU and GPU.

I am just wondering what you are aiming to play, that your current system would not be enough. My system is older than yours... ok not the gpu, but still I able to almost play everything that is released. If you are just looking for a litle boost that would not be so expensive go for the 750ti. Stable results even on the newest titels.

Well, I don't think I am the best advisor - still trying to build my systems long living, no (self-)oc and low energy usage ^^. Running this one for almost 6 years now and just changed the GPU once for the best system results.

If it is just the GPU you are worried about, upgrade, but even though I am thinking about upgrading my system as well, I don't think in the current development state it's a good Idea to buy a new cpu. AMD is working on a comeback and the games still don't run so well on Multicore, at least they don't support it so well as they should do. The reason why I am still able to play most of the new games is the fact, that the games tend to use a singel core over deviding the workload on the others. In this case you just need a huge amount of GHZ on your core and you are fine. Oh and you can still put the physics calculation on the GPU, if u get a better one, to reduce the workload on the cpu.

To bad you got a 2nd gen cpu, with ivy bridge in the 3rd, there are way more possebilitis to increase the physical memory cache.

Some things that might help speed up as well. OS hardrive should be a SSD, put the virtual page file on the secondary harddrive. This is a marginal tweak, but it can increase the fps a bit.

Well good luck with your upgrade

Its more of a guarantee of being able to play games for the next 3+ years.
Next gen is starting to become relevant hence higher requirements.
I also have a 60fps fetish...... :P
Thanks for the website, Compared a few GPU's and I think that I will go with the 970.

Go with a 970, 980 is overkill.
