Good job. That was definitely a scam. At least he didn't attack you for turning him down like some do.

Trade
[H]$50 Steam Gift Card
[W] X number of CS:GO keys. but I'm not going first, I don't want to be scammed

---Seen on a new level 2 Steam account. So yep, this happens, while something can be monetized or high valued, will be people wanting to make profit on it.

Yep, that's a scam attempt.. xD
Why would you accept someone with private profile anyway?

I'd give him a benefit of a doubt he meant "I bought game and created this account yesterday", at least until I'd check profile and see it has some game with hundreds hours on it.

Yes, of course - it could be a language barrier...

You didn't hide his name when he went Offline.
And I also think it was a scam attempt.

My thoughts exactly.

Although I can't know for sure if it was a scam attempt, it surely looks like one. xD And you'll see many more scammers in your trading career, you can be sure of that. xD

If they were looking for an honest trade, they wouldn't be afraid of doing the fair thing and going first based on both of your reputations. Also the "bought this account yesterday" is definitely another instant red flag.

Basically if anyone level 2-4 with a private profile tries to add you on Steam, block them. They are all scammers.

I watch on steamrep first, He was lvl 20 and a 2014 account.. But he bought the account.

Permalink

If their profile is private you can't see the level till you add them. If you add them and you can't see the level then they have their account profile hidden from even friends.

I don't think if buying/selling steam account is legal ... so... i will ignore someone like them

Buying and selling is strictly illegal.

Really? how so?

It's against the ToS. You buy licences which are untransferable.

Fun-fact: this is extremely problematic in EU due to the law.

Of course, this is about game licenses and not strictly the accounts, but still... the whole "are you an owner of the games you supposedly own?" thing is a complicated issue.

We are asking about accounts not game. We own games but not fully ownership.

You have +rep on steamtrades? +rep means a shit and I wouldnt trade with someone who said "I have many +rep so Im trustworthy". -.-

quote steamrep:

Never trust anyone for having +rep comments. No matter how many pages, +rep's are worthless!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They're probably talking about the +rep comments on steam walls, not on steamtrades. :P

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

+rep on steamtrades are worthless too. I never used steamtrades but have +6 rep, dont know why.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, not always. Sometimes it's fake +rep, sometimes the +rep is acquired with petty ways, sometimes it's acquired by selling games that will get revoked in the future and all the +rep will change to -rep, etc. :P But sometimes, the +rep is well-deserved, because of a successful transaction.

Yeah, but it is a factor to keep in mind to go first... I found her steamtrade account.. He was a know scammer with -12rep

Never trust anyone but yourself.
Steamrep is just another website, so useless as well. Scammers can create (or even buy) new accounts for scams.

Whenever I trade, I go by one simple rule: whoever initiates the trade sends all keys first, regardless of rep status. If I spot something that strikes me as shady like low-lvl private accts, I let the trade expire or cancel it. Of course in any online trading there is a risk of being duped, it's up to us to police ourselves.

SG has a "no calling out" rule. I highly recommend reading the FAQ and site rules, especially since you're a relatively new member. Otherwise, you could inadvertently break a rule and be suspended.
