Unfortunately, sometimes when you win a giveaway, you end up for whatever reason not getting a game, which kinda sucks after you got excited about a win.

So here's my idea (and I apologize if it's been suggested before)... if a completed giveaway is deleted or marked as Not Received after a week, the winner of the giveaway goes on an Unfulfilled Winner list in order of date when he/she won the giveaway.

Then on the Create Giveaway screen, there's an option (defaulted to off) for "Give Game/Software Away to Unfulfilled Winner". If this option is turned on, the system checks to see if there's a unfulfilled winner for that game. If so, rather than create a giveaway, it tells the giver that whoever was #1 on the list has won the giveaway and removes that person from the list. If not, a giveaway is created as normal.

So that person who thought they won a game ends up getting it eventually, and for the giver, they've still given it away.

Now, unfortunately, some people would abuse this, so there would need to be a rules for it, such as in order to go onto the Unfulfilled Winner list, your giveaway must have been public and had at least, say, 50 entries for every point needed to enter the contest. And it would have to be looked at and adjusted when/if people found other ways to abuse it.

As someone who lost out on a game when the key the guy had was region specific to Poland, I'd make every giveaway I made have the option to give it to an Unfulfilled Winner.

EDIT: Closed for comments. The terrible community here is so anxious to shoot down any idea that they don't really read and consider things. This is why I don't contribute much.

If you think for more than 10 seconds before entering you won't win a fake giveaway. Also, there would be the temptation to mark giveaways as not received, just to make sure you are on the list.

Yes, because "thinking for 10 seconds" stops you from, say, entering a giveaway from someone who has given away other games before and THINKS he has a legitimate key to give away, and doesn't know it's region locked.

Begone, troll.

And I'm pretty sure SG would be on the lookout for falsely marking a giveaway not received since you can do that already just to be a jerk.

Oh come on, he's giving you constructive criticism. "Begone, troll" was not necessary.

Saying that 10 seconds of thinking keeps you out of fake giveaways is trolling, not constructive.

No. Way too much potential for exploitation to solve something that's not really a big problem.

This would give people motivation to falsely mark gifts as not received. It's a terrible awful no good very bad idea.

They already can do that just to be a jerk. There's not going to be many more people doing so just to get an extra copy of a game you already won.

Remember, if a game is falsely reported as not received, the giver is going to be all over reporting the guy, so this "motivation" wouldn't work.
