Not sure why we need to know you're getting a credit card in 125 days? I'd think a lot of people here have them.

Be careful with that thing, tons of people have/will continue to ruin their lives with them. Pay it off every month, don't drown in the interest charges.

This.

Credit cards are the legal mafia. They might not break your knees, but they will own you. I use mine all the time, but I pay it off fully every month. I know too many people that went shopping when they got their cards, and they've been financing debt since.

Yeah, it's a real shame. So many people don't think about all the fees and stuff they slap on, they just see it as "free money right now", but it's so far from the truth.

Yeah, even not using them that way other than if there is an emergency can be a pain in the butt when that emergency happened. I needed some emergency dental work done a few months back, still working on paying that off. If something like that comes up and you can't afford to pay fully for it, then at least pay as much as you can afford to keep the interest to a minimum.

I find them to be good for covering me until a paycheck comes otherwise. Like if rent is due and I can barely afford groceries after that, but know I'll be fine next paycheck, a credit card will give a bit of a buffer and be less risky than one of those short term payday loans. Just keep it small and at what you know you'll be able to afford by the time the bill is due unless there is a real emergency.

Very good advice. I'm still working on paying off some emergency bills I had to put on mine. Thankfully the interest is only a few dollars a month, so I'm whittling it down.

Go to a bank and ask if they offer a secured credit card. You basically put down a deposit of what you want your limit to be, e.g. 500 dollars. Once you build credit, you can transition to a normal card and get your deposit back. IMO, all CCs should require deposits.

Moral conundrum. Do I warn you against getting a credit card or appreciate the wonderful giveaways that are sure to follow?

I'm a decent guy, and I work in banking, so I must warn you against getting a credit card for this purpose. Some credit card schemes are brilliant - I have an Amazon credit card which I use as a debit card (place my order on it, pay it off immediately) for a £10 gift voucher after I've spent £1000. I also have a staff credit card for my bank which gives me cashback on almost all purchases - again, I pay things off immediately so my interest charge is £0 and my cashback value is approx £6 per month. Every little helps. However obtaining a credit card so you can buy games to giveaway is pretty daft, unless you're planning to use the credit card as I mentioned above - interest fees suck.

Lol guys. I have a bunch of money saved up, I simply don't have a visa debit (have a normal one) and will be getting a credit card with cashback and such. I will be using it like a debit card, so no worries there. I got a $20 mail in rebate in the form of a AMEX card, so picked up a Nation Red 4 pack (to gift the extras) :).

Not sure if talking about a big ammount of giveaways, or just giveaways with a really high contributor value needed to enter :P

I have to wonder the mentality of some steam gifters, I understand why they like to gift, its nice to give things to people, but surely those who would require gifts in order to play games wont have throw away money to give others some too? Just my thought anyway.

If you want to give out free shit...buy food, clothing for the poor people who walk down the street at nights searching in trashcans for something to survive! Not bits of digital data..

I have a debit card, which I cannot use on the internet. In about 4 months I can use this card on the internet. I'm almost a bit worried what might happen to my money when I can buy games and stuff with a few clicks... Right now I have to SIT ON A BUS FOR 30MIN-> WALK TO GAMESTOP-> BUY A 20/50 EURO STEAM WALLET CARD-> TAKE THE BUS HOME FOR 30MIN -> ACTIVATE CARD -> BUY GAME I WILL NEVER PLAY ANYWAY
