I have yet to figure out how it's working right now.

  • Crafted over 200 badges, got Holiday card drops.

  • Crafted the Holiday badge 12 times

  • Have 19 Holiday cards with trade/sale restriction on them.

Why are 19 out of the 200+ restricted? LOL

I think this happens if any of the cards that you crafted with was untradable and unmarketable, then the Holiday card will be as well.

Correct.

I suppose that both makes sense and doesn't make sense at the same time, especially when the cards are time-limited.

Going to be a lot of pissed off people (again) come January 4th. :P

Nothing we can do about this. This affects normal crafts as well. Whenever you craft with normal cards and they are untradable, so are the emoticons and icons the craft generates. However, as you mentioned the problem is the expiration of the Holiday cards.

No idea how Valve thinks on this, but sure there'll be people pissed of. Actually, there'll be people pissed of no matter what you do or don't :D

I'm pretty sure Valve thought this through.

More people with cards they can't trade/sell at the end of the sale means more people buying the cards they need to finish the badge before the sale ends. Valve gets a cut of every card sold on the market.

They could make the holiday cards tradeable/marketable right away, but that would mean they lose money.

Or it means that more people will end up with expired cards which they didn't sell and they again end up losing money.

Let them do their jobs, they are get payed tons of money in order to do what they do. If they think that's the best way to do business we, who know nothing about their policies, can't tell if it's good for them or not. Is it bad for us? Hell yeah it is and it's kinda a dicky move but we got to live up with that. As if it is bad for them, I highly doubt Valve would come up with a feature that would lose them money, it's not their style or any other company's style.
