Will this get them more exclusives?

At least they've finally recognised their value.

And before any of the epic fans attack me, I am joking

No need to apologize I find the comment witty and funny as I'm platform agnostic I don't care either way.

I feel like they want to justify not developing their storefront further.

I think this will bring them more exclusives of illuded devs. Then after the timed-exclusive deal passes, they'll come to steam to sell because that's where the money is.

I don't care if you guys have something against Epic for whatever reason. This is a good thing. Indie devs on Steam are basically punished for being small and pay way more than the big publishers. This is the other way around. Valve should follow.

I agree with you, but the problem with EGS is that people don't want to use it. And the main reason is that Epic refuses to listen to the feedback their users give them. If I use steam is because I can buy keys everywhere, because I have so many features like communities, profiles, groups, etc, it's because the store is functional... It's all about convenience.

Sure, this is good for small devs, but if they don't give the users what they ask, the users won't move from steam to egs.

Agreed I don't know how many people even use Epic to see a game only sold there and not on Steam unless it's already somewhat well known about

A lot of people are of the thought that if it isn't on Steam or maybe game pass it isn't on PC

I think people will always find a reason to boycott EGS. For some it's about features, for others about Tencent or UE or supposed data collection or that Tim Sweeney said something they didn't like 5 years ago. ^^ You are right, Steam is clearly the most advanced and most feature-complete platform we have. I prefer it as well. But still, I think other stores are just as valid and should not be ignored.

At the end of the day, what a game launcher needs to do first and foremost in my opinion is to launch the game. Everything else is nice to have, but not necessary. When I buy a game, it's about playing the game. Steam offers a lot of extra stuff, and that's really nice, but I am fine with just playing the game, too. It isn't even that long ago that this was the standard. I especially don't understand the extreme hate against Epic specifically. I'd say, if someone is fine with buying games on GOG or Origin, they should also be fine with EGS. But of course everyone is free to do as they please. I just think it's a shame that we have a platform that is actually kind of indie-friendly, but so many ignore or boycott it for questionable reasons.

As someone who has been playing Fortnite since 2017, before BR was a thing, Epic has always sucked. To this day, they havent figured out a way to message people like Steam Chat, This is weird considering Fortnite, which is a multiplayer game is their main cash cow. Surely they realize that people wanna talk to friends, see when friends are playing and join them in games. Steam did this ages ago. Epic with all their money has yet to implement such basic functionality. This isn't a matter of them being behind or not having funds. Its a decision they made to not implement these things. Reviews.. once again... they allow games to disable reviews. I don't like Epic for these reasons. I love to root for the underdog, but not when they intentionally make a shittier product despite having the means to make it good.

NO. ubisoft is the best example... they tried and they failed.
the only way for epic to get more exclusive devs is funding directly their games like alan wake 2.

This was already a thing from a while back. This news seem to be about the mobile store they're launching.

Their current first run list of games don't seem that great, even found a blockchain game there. Looking back it's funny how when they first launched the store a big push was about how they would curate the store so you wouldn't get bad games, since Steam allowed just any game to launch there.

This won't change anything for small developers. Difference between 12% and 0 for the amount of copies they sell on Epic is miniscule. They should attract new users by adding more features which will entice people to shop there and slowly build their libraries.

Why buy games there when they keep chucking them at you each week for free?

Because you really want to play the game that isn't free right now, and you don't want to wait for it to maybe become free in a year, two or more.

I just don't like the way Epic has developed their store. They used money to essentially "bribe" developers with exclusivity deals or lower cuts, but spend seemingly nothing on actually advancing the store/service and making it better for customers. And as much as I want to support developers, at the end of the day it's the experience for the customer that matters most. And Epic simply doesn't deliver much of anything in that regard.

Absolutely crazy to me that they have stuck with this strategy from the start, seeing as it clearly isn't working.

It's good for developers but for players it won't make a difference, I get that Epic has a strategy and I guess it's working for them cos they keep at it but it'd be nice if they ever focus on improving the user experience because it's still kinda awful to this day. Also for as long as any game on their store is a candidate for being free at some point I'll never feel confident enough to make a purchase there.

I still prefer cheap games over the "community" things people praise on Steam like it's the second coming of christ. The chat is good, but achievements, profile customization, shitty stickers and emoticons can be damned and fuck off right now.

(I think it's ridiculous, that nobody mentions actual features on Steam that are commendable, like remote play together. Much better for gaming than playing dress-up with your profile and impress people with your waifu)

People do talk about Remote Play Together. We use it all the time. Just played Cult of the Lamb recently with a friend.
And their SteamVR.

Epic used to have a barebones friend messaging system, which they removed. Same way, they had global chat in Fortnite but they removed. They implemented Reviews, but then allowed game companies to disable those. Just weird decisions all around.

So yeah, I have zero interest in Epic. It has nothing to do with their games. And this is coming from someone who is happy to get discounts on games for Ubisoft client rather than purchase them on Steam. But not Epic.. not if I can avoid it.
