He and his supporters have a very viable lawsuit against Paypal. With the money they could get from suing them, why, all of those children could get iPads or thousands of rubber bands. Whatever the hell they're into these days. I fully support taking Paypal to court over this. They're even discriminating against him for simply questioning their logic.

the problem here is what do they define as a good cause, that's really going to put a choke hold on the lawsuit, i mean maybe paypal hat all human life, and would rather live on a world were animal are the dominate species. but i agree 100% that this should be pursued and they should get sented to send out a gift with a i'm sorry for screwing your Christmas card to all those kids.

I read it but generally they try to lock down on people that want to scam you so they can get said money from you later. It's not like their out to solely do evil. Yes it sucks it's an unfortunate consequence of their model but it's there for a reason. People really have to stop being so biased.

This isn't some shady business operating out of Nigeria, this is a well-respected blog with a lot of readers and a lot of trust in the community. For this to happen, and for the representative to be as condescending as he/she was, is inexcusable. They didn't even violate the terms of use.

Paypal is well known for being a bag of dicks about stuff like this. They'll freeze your account whenever they feel like it, and once that happens there's nothing they will do to help you fix the situation. I've seen it happen to other people several times for different reasons, and they tend to take drastic and permanent action without even checking if those reasons are valid. Paypal quite simply hates its customers.

There have been documented cases of people getting their accounts frozen for:

  • Receiving, spending, or withdrawing more money than usual (planning on doing some big spending during the Steam Christmas sale? If you buy too much in one day, your account might get frozen)
  • Getting a complaint filed against them (whether those complaints were valid or not)
  • Filing a complaint against someone else (again, they don't care if it's valid or not)
  • Having account details (name, address, or anything like that) that are similar to an already suspended account
  • Sending or receiving money to/from someone who had their account suspended - even if that person was suspended for scamming YOU in the first place (that's right, Paypal can punish you for being the VICTIM of a crime)
  • Being related to someone who had their account frozen
  • Not answering the phone when a Paypal representative calls you
  • Using Paypal buttons on a site Paypal doesn't like
  • Initiating a chargeback for any reason, even if it's perfectly legit
  • Being angry/rude to a Paypal representative on the phone
  • etc.

And once your account gets frozen, there's like a 10% chance it'll ever get restored to its original state.

They usually get away with it because their user agreement states they can freeze your account for any reason at all.

Can I has monies for kidz? - nope.avi, there are too many of them lately - feed your sick cat instead, thanks.

Paypal is so full of shit and fail. Guess I will exhaust my current existing balance and then delete my account. (And urge webshops/sellers to move away from Failpal.)

It also took a huge amount of preasure to get Paypal to shut down accounts of christian "charities" that were extremely homophobic. And even after a petition, they still haven't shut down all of them. Hopefully its reversal of its decision is consistent and done right.

It's a nice gesture, but keep in mind that they only did this after a LOT of bad publicity was raised. They're not helping to do a good thing, they're helping to save face.

I don't believe for a second that they would have done anything if this story hadn't been spread all over the internet.
