I was just wondering why whether a giveaway is for a key or gift isn't displayed?

It seems like all the other information one enters when creating a giveaway is shown on resulting giveaway in some way (i.e either on the giveaway itself or when you try to access it's page). But whether a giveaway is for a key or gift is left to the creator to optionally put in the description?

It's not displayed because users can freely change between the two types after the giveaway ends. That makes the information mostly irrelevant, since there's a good chance a giveaway would say gift, then you'd receive a key, and vice versa.

Why does it matter? You enter for a game you want, if you win it you activate it. It doesn't matter if you activate it as a key or from a gift.

Was coming here to write this ^^.

Activation of the game is mandatory, so it does not matter whether it is a steamgift or gamekey.

Well. I've always been under the impression that if the gift senders account becomes questionable, that there is a chance any gifts they have sent may be removed?

If this system was implemented, it'd create a great opportunity for regifters. I think zelghadis told this in an other thread, that if people could see if it's a gift, they'd know that once they redeemed the gift (to their inventory ofc), there would be no way to retrieve it, so they could regift/trade it without any problem.

Keys can be revoked at any time, if they were provided from a non-legitimate source, as developers/original retailers can request such without limitation.

Gifts can only be revoked within the first month after activation, and thus are actually safer on the whole.

There's never any guarantees here, but the odds are pretty low that you'd get a revocation [unless someone found their parent's credit cards, or someone bought the key off of a G2A site].

If it does happen, just report it to SG staff.

So if the gift sender does something questionable, any gifts they have sent in the past won't be automatically (or manually) revoked.

Thanks for the information; I have been deliberately avoid entering giveaways that explicitly state they are a steam gift (in the descriptions); I shall not anymore :)
