While I don't play any of them, I'm still shocked about the amount of games listed.
I guess some of them are actually pretty popular and have active online communities, like BF2.

Gameranger is offering support for most of these games including Battlefront 2. Most of the PS2 games listed have LAN modes, therefore they can be port forwarded directly to other players or supported by private servers.

2006 called, they want their Hamachi back.

Now we have https://www.evolvehq.com/ and http://www.tunngle.net/index.php and http://www.gameranger.com/ which were actually designed for games and gamers.

I'm surprised to hear that the multiplayer for James Bond: Nightfire was still active. I guess Gamespy made it easy and economical for companies to just leave fringe multiplayer servers up for a long time, but its not worth changing them to something else.

I really wish games would have a more basic server lobby code built in for whenever the main lobby servers go offline. EA could probably run literally every outdated game they have on one server if they just disabled everything that isn't completely necessary. All you truly need is to store the name of the server, the game its for, the hosts ip address, how full it is and when it last pinged the server. That would be more than enough to keep basic multiplayer working for most games and in terms of data we're talking about way less than 1kb of hard drive space per active server and the load on the lobby server would be minimal due to the fact that most of the games are relatively inactive.

Uhh..some things in some games are calculated server side you know. Servers aren't just a way for people to connect to each other, they play a role in the actual game too.

Some things in some games is the key phrase here. In most cases even if other stuff does run on the server it either isn't necessary for basic multiplayer functionality or could just as easily run off the hosts computer instead. Even SimCity 5, which was about as server side as it gets, was able to be patched for an offline mode.

That's stpid

Why peaple should buy it and its online services is offline ?
due to the damn gamespy I cant play CRYSIS 2 at all and I already have maximum edition and lots of C&C games (most of it was using gamespy)
they should patch the game for lan or get my damn money back

I hope they drop the price then. I don't care the multiplayer, just the price.

Who cares? Those aren't real games. EA is commercialized casual garbage. If people had any intelligence they would have boycotted EA many years ago.

i dont see the problem here. these are mostly really old games, which are played by maybe 5 people total. i am fine with shutting these down. and honestly, i guess most people dont actually play any of these games, and just want to do some more EA bashing, because - internet... ;)

dumb question: when those servers are off, will it be possible to still play the games offline (the campaign, if they have one)? i'm thinking of crysis 1 and 2.

They only shutdown the support not the servers, you can always host a dedicated server !

I mentioned that one as well. It was released in 2002. Pretty impressive that multiplayer was still up. I guess Gamespy made it cheap and easy to keep up old, fringe titles like that.

Yay let's hop on the "EA is crap" bandwagon..

This is all related to the GameSpy service shutting down.. Who the hell was still playing these games in Multiplayer anyway.

Apparently there are many people, who still are playing those games online. GFWL also shuts down, but some developers actually care about their customers (unlike €A) and have acted accordingly.

I love how everyone complains about EA, they get rated the worst company in America, yet they are still profiting so much money. Quick question, why should they change how they operate when it is CLEARLY successful.

So much for the F2P version of BF1942...and seeing Mohaa gets taken down too I guess the chances for a release on Origin are even more near zero than before.
