Ok. I just discovered the new changes, since I wasn't doing GAs since long time. I've already read other 4-5 threads about this topic (honestly not all the comments, there are hundreds), still I have 2 questions about how SG is going to apply the normal rules. I usually bought games when in sale, so my problem is:
1) Since now I need to add to friendlist first, what happens if the GA ends but can't get in touch with the winner for 1-2 days and the sale ends? Right now I want to make some GAs for games with a 24h sale, but I'm scared that I won't be able to contact the winner right away and the sale end, making me impossible to buy the gift. Do I risk the ban? Can I eventually ask to just cancel the GA?
2) What happens if the winner can't receive the game for that new game price difference rule? I need to reroll and wait X days, so same as above?

1) You have to risk it if the sale ends within 7 days, you are always at risk. This is why it is really bad for SG in general.
2) Not sure, but again you take some of the risk if you're unsure, probably better not to make the giveaway. Not sure it's a valid reason to reroll.

Don't buy in steam store, buy humble gifts and don't be affected by stupid valve at all!

Problem is that I buy gifts with money done from selling cards. So that's a no-go for me. Plus those GAs would have their level impact decreased by a lot since they are bundled games.

You do know humble has its own store with more games than just bundled ones?

Source of games have no impact on ga value.

But I guess getting money from cards is a deal beaker. Sucks for you imo. You're the one taking all the risks since valve change then.

edit
Or maybe it would be possible to trade cards for humble links? That way you're the owner of the key, so if anything is wrong with it you can resolve it yourself with HiB.
No perfect solution, that is why so many ppl are angry with gifting change on steam.

It's how we did gifts to friends back in the olden days. You buy a gift on sale, send to yourself on a spare email, leave it be, then choose resend and enter a new email when friends birthday comes... Then valve made inventory and this became irrelevant.

Not sure if it would work today.

I think that was my post that you saw, but someone corrected me and said that apparently if the gift isn't redeemed by your initial target, it gets refunded (and you have to re-order to select someone else). Can't confirm if this is true or not yet, so please go with caution in case it turns out to be true!

(if anyone else could possibly confirm, it'd be much appreciated)

If the gift is refused, it's instantly refunded, I can confirm that part.

Hmm, so there might still be a chance provided the 'target' doesn't accept or refuse in the meantime.

I've done some GAs just to test the new system.
1) It's better to finish your GAs at least 1 day before the end of the sale. Even more time, if you wanna be sure. Tbh, if you talk with your winner I'm sure they will understand. This change affects all of us. :/
2) I had to usa region lock options (south america only) and also a few rerolls because even though I asked in the description people from other countries to avoid entering the GAs, a bunch of them entered anyway (I suspect they were using bots and/or scripts). I had to reroll 1-2 argentinians winners, because Brazil cannot send games to them anymore. Support was really fast to provide the necessary rerolls.

What I can say is that our GA options need a revamp and need it asap.

(I suspect they were using bots and/or scripts).

As it turns out, South Americans are the biggest bot users on this site, bar none, so good assumption.

I've noticed it. :/
Every time I tried a decent invite-only GA inside a trash public GA, only ~5% would enter. The amount of replies is also really low in SA only GAs, even in group GAs.
Btw, do you have any data about that or it's just from observation?

Very interesting! A bit sad to hear that, but I mainly blame some youtubers because they actively promote this site as a way to get free games. I even remember that one of them made a lot of tutorials: about the cost/benefit of leveling up, the optimal level for leeching and script/botss to help doing so. I'm not kidding.

Well. the only silver lining is that we don't have as many rulebreakers, it seems. xD

As an entire region, no. Brazil is quite bad in that regards though. Used to be the second most common country I found with rulebreakers before China took over. As I stated in that message, the data is not at all conclusive, but the South American percentage was so obviously not fitting any trends that I could make the conclusion even from that data.

1) you get to pay higher price or risk suspension for not delivering.
2) you need to request a reroll, and if that takes long enough, you get to pay higher price or risk suspension.

Better idea is to forget the steam store for gifting purposes and find another legit key seller.

1) You pay full price or take the not received.
2) Europe is the most expensive region now that the British successfully tanked their own currency almost as bad as the Tsar did the rubel a few years ago, so I would not really worry about that in your case.

Seriously though, use the card money to buy games for yourself and if you really need to gift, buy from any of the acknowledged and licensed resellers. Humble Store is one of the best nowadays, but there are dozens of similar reputable and trusted sites with great prices.

I don't know if it a legit reason to reroll on SG (the dif price i mean), that is why you should always use region lock now if you want to give away a gift and not a key if you ask me..
