I've been doing research for a paper due tomorrow for several hours now, but someone accidentally deleted it! I've searched for softwares that can recover deleted files for you, but most guides for the Ubuntu ones are too confusing for a novice like me. I have found one that seems simple, called Scapel, but it recovers every file ever deleted on this computer, which should be GBs of files since I've had this computer for some time now.

Anyone can help me? Would be eternally grateful...I use Ubuntu 12.04 version.

this might sound stupid to you but your best option right now is to remove the HDD and fit it on a windows machine and use R-Studio on it
good luck!

http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk is THE best data recovery app you'll find for free imo, and as you can set file types and other perimeters to be recovered it'll narrow down the search a bit. Might even have an option to set how far to go back but i've never had the need to look tbh. Give it a go, runs on most os's :)
The downside? File names get scrambled, otherwise, has always recovered what i needed

The first thing I would do if I were you is check my trash bin. If the file was deleted but the trash bin not emptied then it's in there.

Smash your computer and shout at your wall, that's what I do. Because i'm angry.

Recuva. Don't install/save anything on your harddrive, it may overwrite.
