Definetely Guild Wars 2, I won't explain why, it has a lot of votes here. Just will say I've read some messages from developers regarding mechanics design. It will be completely different to all games until now. Just they deserve a very big success, and they already have impacted in the industry, all competitors now are free until level 20 to try to get customers before GW2 launch. They are desperate :D

But to add something else to the competition:
The Secret World. I think it will be also great. 32 Gb of beta which I haven't tried WTF. Maybe this weekend, if stills available.

If you want something more "typical" but with a twist and a lot of action go for Tera. I hope Ubisoft don't destroy it.

Rift if you want something like WoW used to be before add-ons (well, atleast it was so last year) and TERA, because it have no targed, dodging and looks amazing. Sadly, it's IP blocked for my country and I'm too lazy to play with VPN.

Guild wars 2. it is not out but you can play on beta test's and the game is Very good. it is the best the game cost's 60$ it has no subscription so you just pay once, also guild is very fun. i think it's 20$

if you want a free to play mmo. i recommend aion

City of Heroes. Its free to play, and really really good. Best character creation in an MMO that i've seen. You can spend hundreds of hours just designing your own enemies, levels, story's and create what ever you want. Or you can play over 8 years of content (its just slightly older than WOW).

I don't usually play MMO's cuz I don't like them, but I thought DC Universe is alright.

Eden eternal is okay.

Of the few I've played, I liked Champions Online (free). It can get repetitive, but the community's fun (if a little fur-happy) and although I only ever had a free account, I never really felt like a second-class citizen.
