On the right side of the game's library page (the page with your install/play button in the Steam client) there's a "CD Key" link.

There should be a "copy code into tralala" button. Press it and then press [windows key] + [R] then and type notepad. Then press enter. Then press Ctrl+V. There you are.

After you clicked it, you can paste it with ctrl+v.

If you can't copy the key to clipboard (for whatever reason ...) you can enlarge the column with the key, by resizing it at the grey line (as you would resize a column in Windows Explorer, you'll notice it when your mouse cursor changes)

An obvious question perhaps, but are you entering it in the right place? What game is it?

Is this in steam? Usually the pop up that displays the cd key in steam has a "copy to clipboard" button on it.

Its for spellforce 2 gold edition, so yeah that worked, i got to see the whole key in notepad, but when i typed it in, the key wasnt long enough. the format is XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXXX-XXXXXX, but my key is 10 characters too short.

This seems to be a common problem from some Googling. Try manually writing down (ie, pen and paper) the entire key, then copying from your piece of paper into the game.

You can make the box bigger. Drag the sides.
