...aka I'm leaving SG.

In my case it's because I need to have an addiction/something digital to collect.
I already collected digital stuff like Emulators and Roms, MP3, Rockband 3 DLC and so on.

And my everlasting addiction is collecting games, that got worst since I joined Steam on Dec/2012 and in the following months I found out about game bundles.
In 2014 I joined SG and I also got addicted to winning games/entering giveaways no matter if it was a nice or a trash game.

Well, currently I own 3.4k+ games (not counting the removed ones) and I made a spreadsheet to keep track of the games I'm really interested in beating and according to HLTB it'll take me more than 6000 hours to beat 420 games.
Since I joined BLAEO in 2016 I spent 1000 hours to beat 173 games.
As you can see I'll never beat my backlog.

So I'm leaving SG since there is no point in winning more games.
But that doesn't mean I'll stop buying games.
Yeah, my last goal is to clear my Wishlist and don't add anymore games to it.

I'd like to thank all the people from whom I won a game here.

Now let me know why do you keep buying games even though you own 5k, 7k, 12k games and some of you only play games like CS:GO, TF2 and Idle Clicker Games.

They're cheap. Why not?

Thanks for Skyrim

Mainly I buy games I want to play. I also buy games to give away or gift to friends and family. In the past I´ve bought games just because there was a sale and it was really cheap, but I don´t do that any more. I don´t collect games.

I won't try to convince you one way or the other. Whatever your decision I can only recommend you stick with it. Leave or not, it's an impressive venture to do what you have planned.

All the best and thanks for the giveaways!

I feel you, man.

  • I own about 1300 games on Steam. (Less than that, actually, but we can assume that number will creep up a little bit.) Of those, about half are games I have previously owned and/or played. I bought them because I like them and want to keep a copy of them.
  • I also own about 800 games on GOG. Again, many of those are games I have previously owned and/or played, and I wanted a digital copy.
  • Of the games I own on Steam, 166 are games I've won from this site. Some of them I have already played, but most of them are in my queue.
  • When buying games, I first try to get them on GOG. If I can't do that, I try to get them from Steam bundles. My game purchasing has been greatly curtailed as I have plenty of games to play and little time to play them. In the past year, I have pre-purchased two $60 games and have yet to try either of one of them. That illustrates the situation, does it not?
  • Taking into consideration the previous point, I have also severely cut back on entering giveaways. Pretty much only bundled stuff that I couldn't get my hands on for one reason or another, and only if I think I can play it in a (relatively) short period of time. (For comparison, I generally have less than 10 entries running at any one time on SG.) There are some really awesome-looking games out there (e.g. ARMA III), but I highly doubt I would ever be able to find time for them.

TL; DR: These days, I'm on this site to help moderate it, and to give games away rather than collect them.

Nowadays i try to buy and enter giveways of games that i am most interested in. Buying games on really low prices and bundles were part of the fun for me so i suppose thats one major reason but now i am much more selective with what games i want to get.
Anyway thanks for the wishlist stalker giveways:)

I like new and shiny things and have the money to do so. Better than spending it on drink, drugs and smelly women ;)

I'm pretty sure we can't get drinks, drugs or smelly women for the price of a bundle! :D

Someone will have to support videogame developers, right?

Welp I don't have 1k games (yet xD).
I am bit a hoarder though - I think everyone have have in them bit of that. Maybe it's a residue of some kind of primordial instinct. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Same way collecting free games gives you that specyfic kind of satisfaction - you beated the system, you hunted them etc.

Besides: free games = free cards = free money on steam that you can use to buy something you actually want.

As to steamgifts i try to join only giveaways for games that at least look somewhat interesting for me.
But but winning is addicting, not only because you get free games, but its really uplifting. You may not care for a game you won, but you will always be happy when you se "winning notification".

I mostly enter giveaways of games I'd want to play. But recently I've had a slump on playing games. I don't know why. I do want to play most of it, but I get overwhelmed by the sheer number of games I have. I don't even have 1k games yet. ((I think it's at 500+ rn?)) I know that's a weird problem; playing would reduce that number, so I should feel encouraged to play, right? I'm not quite sure how I'm going to get over the slump.

I usually only buy games that I'm sure i will play at least once (maybe not finish them). My backlog is already monstrous 5 months after i discovered the wonderful world of Bundles :D. It's so cheap and the games are so good...It's hard to not give in.

I will do like you if I reach 1k games and didn't finish at least 1/3 of my library, take a break from bundles and enjoy my backlog :P.
Thank you for your giveaways cheers 🍻.

Nice games! Defs a lot of good ones on this list.

As for buying too many games...God I'm a mess. Addiction and OCD runs in my family, and my backlog is my vice. I'm working on playing and reviewing as much as I can do though.. Just wish I could get away from MMOs long enough to make a more substantial dent into my library!
