...aka I'm leaving SG.

In my case it's because I need to have an addiction/something digital to collect.
I already collected digital stuff like Emulators and Roms, MP3, Rockband 3 DLC and so on.

And my everlasting addiction is collecting games, that got worst since I joined Steam on Dec/2012 and in the following months I found out about game bundles.
In 2014 I joined SG and I also got addicted to winning games/entering giveaways no matter if it was a nice or a trash game.

Well, currently I own 3.4k+ games (not counting the removed ones) and I made a spreadsheet to keep track of the games I'm really interested in beating and according to HLTB it'll take me more than 6000 hours to beat 420 games.
Since I joined BLAEO in 2016 I spent 1000 hours to beat 173 games.
As you can see I'll never beat my backlog.

So I'm leaving SG since there is no point in winning more games.
But that doesn't mean I'll stop buying games.
Yeah, my last goal is to clear my Wishlist and don't add anymore games to it.

I'd like to thank all the people from whom I won a game here.

Now let me know why do you keep buying games even though you own 5k, 7k, 12k games and some of you only play games like CS:GO, TF2 and Idle Clicker Games.

Since trains are old-fashion, I'll just leave the GA links here:

Why do you buy games?

Thanks for Skyrim

I tell myself that I'll find the time to play them all but that's not gonna happen anytime soon ... and I like the deals you get in bundles.
Good luck with emptying your wishlist, hope you won't like too many of the upcoming game releases ;)

Just buy what you want and play whatever you feel like without worrying about stats. Obviously everything you might want to play later gets removed by wrath of Gaben so better buy it now while you still can!

I'm not in a hurry to clear my backlog, I play games to have fun when I get the chance to have some free time. Also I like to have ample choice when looking for something new to play. Maybe one day I'll be retired and play a lot more! If I die before clearing my backlog it won't be my problem anymore :D

I buy games partly because I want to play them and partly because I want to reach the next milestone (2k being my endgoal), which results in me saving my spare gaming money for bundles. I'm very easy to please when it comes to games too. I love a quick little idle game, action games, atmospheric games, minimalistic puzzle games. Tbh I find it very difficult to get into the mood to play a new game and stick with it (that's mostly because of personal issues), but when I get home and just want to play I can just hop right into TF2 and know what I'm going to get.

The money I spend on Steam is having no affect on my life, it's a very small amount, but just the act of getting some new cool game and playing it for an hour brings me immense joy.
Will I ever finish my entire library? Probably not. Will I ever want to? Not with my current +1 collection. But I don't feel too bad about it, games are fun without beating the campaign.

Best of luck with your wishlist goal! Backlogs give a lot of pressure, but there's no moral obligation to play and finish the games you bought. Just enjoy your freetime however you want.

For a few reasons:

In some cases I want to encourage developers or help them. That's why I back games on Kickstarter and a major reason I buy games on Android. Although I do want to play most of the Android games I buy, I buy more than I'd realistically play and pay more than I could because I want to encourage PC or console style games on Android.

Sometimes I buy for nostalgia. For example I recently bought some Trackmania games because I enjoyed them in the past. Did play a couple of hours because I still somewhat enjoy that gameplay, but probably won't play that much (too much stuff to do and very little time; it's hard to focus on one thing).

Some games I buy to inflict on my kids. :)

Some games I bought recently just for benchmarking purposes. I planned to do quite a bit of comparative benchmarking with my new Ryzen 3 2200G PC. Unfortunately the death of the hard disk with my recordings and having a new puppy at home pretty much killed that project.

And of course mostly I buy games because I want to play them one day.

I'm not a serious collector and don't aspire to any collection goals. I just happen to buy games occasionally. I buy more book bundles than game bundles, but they go as unread as my games go unplayed (or even more, because I often do play games at least a little, and I mostly listen to books these days instead of reading them).

I'm cheap so I only buy games I really want to play and try to get them when they're on sale, or if a game seems interesting enough when it's as cheap as it'll get. And some games for steamgifts now that I joined. :) Mostly/Only bundles though because, like I mentioned, I'm not swimming in money. xD

Also, those region restrictions hurt my soul. (ಥ﹏ಥ) Thanks for all the GAs anyways! :D

Sorry to see you go, but I understand, there is more in life then just games. Joined Stalker, thank you for the chance. As far as answer goes, I'm collecting only games that I'm planning to play sooner or later. I have some backlog, but I'm planning to at least try every of those games.

Also I made a mistake and created my WL GA ending on June 12.

Not at all. It's really just 2-3 clicks. Some games are also part of a bundle, so they are all deleted together.

I personally only buy games I'm interested in trying. I avoid "low quality" bundles that include games most people wouldn't actually want to play, so that even if I'm not personally interested, I know whoever receives it will still be getting a good experience.

Also, while I don't keep track with an app or anything, if I lose track of the games I own (i.e. if I'm surprised to see things in my library because I forgot I had them), I'll take a break from buying games for a while and select something from my backlog to try. Rinse and repeat, until I feel like I know everything I own and why it's there again.

I'm glad you figured out that the win/buy cycle was drawing you in too much. Hope to see you on here again someday, when you feel like it would be a healthy choice for yourself. :)

I don't really do that, even with these giveaways I've started to be extra picky so I don't enter games I don't plan on playing for sure anymore.

I saw the slippery slope of collecting too, so early on decided to only buy games I'm interested in to support them. Of course this was after the collect as many cards as possible phase.

Sometimes I convince myself that I want to play this game so badly I'm buying it and most likely some time later I don't play that game at all. That's weird but that happens pretty often.

I try to only buy games that I'm actually going to play & enjoy.. sure, it hasn't always happened and I do have a fair amount that I'll probably never get to. I've gotten a little better over the past few years about only buying games that I'm going to play immediately, since I know they will always go on sale for the same price or cheaper later on. Clearing the backlog is a noble ideal, but as little time I have for games now I just play the ones I enjoy and try not to add ones that I won't. Sometimes a game just doesn't click, and I've learned to just let it go and move on.

My too-big library is mainly made up of cheap bundle games, so it didn't actually cost that much, especially since I've got in on some of the public group buys. For $0.50 - $1.50 if a group buy has a game or two that is mildly interesting then I pick it up.

Thank you for the giveaways.

Just to suffer.

Well, in my opinion there is no point on buying them now, cause I have to study and get some money(work), I like videogames so I guess that when I get a "permanent " job , I will play my favourite large ones And who knows if steam will keep surviving till then.

I actually play a lot of PS4 (sometimes ps3 for kh bbs lel), more than pc.

I have the intent on playing most of the games that I buy or win, but I've had a pretty big problem for a while now where I have trouble getting myself to start or continue on with something, kind of like multiple parts of my brain are in conflict over what it wants to do. It's pretty frustrating. =\

GBA = game buying addiction. Goethe said Collectors are happy people but I'm not so sure. I've collected lots of things in my life - both physical and digital - and after the initial joy it inevitably turns into a chore and then comes the overwhelming need to purge. Sometimes it ends up in throwing stuff away, sometimes just hiding it in the basement, but what to do with the steam "collection" when I still have a lot of games I genuinely want to play but it's harder and harder to even find them among all the others? But I feel the tide is coming and I've already started to un-follow game stores, deal trackers etc. I will probably drop out of SG as well...
