You can run Crysis 3 on high though with the R7 265/750ti.
Just to let you know.

I ran it on high with my GTX460/Q6600/8GB Ram with 30-50fps on average, that was on a 1650x1050 screen.
You should be good with the 265 if you so choose it.

It's fine, 1080p is overrated and truth is you will get better performance out of that resolution, both the GTX750ti or R7 265 will play most games on High/Max, I like Nvidia better personally but thats up to you, as gimmicky as it is Physx is nice and I like the drivers better.

So cute, maybe finish though? Must be way to hardcore!

1080p overrated? I agree. Personally, I still play my games in 720x480. The human eye cannot see a difference anyways. It's locked at about 480p, everything else is marketing PR to get us buy new hardware.

Come on, hard to compare those two, fps can actually hinder gameplay, resolution can't really unless it microscopic.
Really though it also depends on screen size, I can see 1440 x 900 being pretty alright on a 19-20 inch, above that and sure mire can help but still its not bad unless you hit big big screens, at least from my experience, I actually prefer the image quality on my 720p TV compared to one of my 1080p screens, it also depends on quality, I have seen some shit looking 1080p screens.

I was making a joke. And while I agree that screen size is important I do thing a larger resolution is more than just everything supersized and that a wider view that a multi-monitor setup can provide would allow them to see more and give a user an advantage. Same with higher refresh rates.
Also, a good 1080/1440/2xxx/3k monitor could change your mind about higher resolutions not being better as opposed to just comparing yours with shitty higher res monitors. However, you won't be able to go back to yours or look at it the same. So only gaze upon a good one when you're ready to upgrade. :P

Ah alright, didn't realize it was a joke, my mistake.
Oh yeah I know, I have a couple(720p, 2 1080p's, and a 1050x1650 which is actually the more expensive and better looking one). I guess my point was his monitor might be lower resolution but it also might be better then buying a cheap 1080p that looks like ass haha. He seems on a budget is all, plus lower resolution will let his rig get better fps for now.

Hey some like Nvidia better, personally I have had less issues with them optimization wise, same with people I know...opinions and such.

OP is looking for cheapest. AMD has better pricing for everything under $450.
And yea I know lots of people like Nvidia better but optimization issues? Other than the Watch Dogs thing that's going on right now I have no idea what those are. At this point certain games work better on GPUs from one company and other games work better with the other company.

I have noticed more issues with games when they come out with AMD, usually solved but usually takes longer, Nvidia seems faster with driver updates to fix bad performance in new releases is all really. Couple of friends could not play Saints Row 3 with AMD cards for a couple months when that came out is a good example, there are others, I hate the way the drivers are dealt with with AMD but I have not used them in two years, updating Nvidia was certainly more streamlined and smoother for me.
But yes price wise AMD is better, I just wanted to give OP another alternative in the price range of the R7 265, and that would be the 750ti which would run games on high/max with that resolution, same goes for the R7 265 though of course(Might be a bit more powerful, I forget). I had many problems with optimization with my Radeon 2900Pro....and the other card I had after, forget which, just know I am going with Nvidia now, both my comps have them and 0 issues for me(GTX460 and GTX750ti).
Also as gimmicky as Physx is and Shadowplay is both are nice actually, not a big deal....but nice.

My own personal experience is more issues with Nvidia than AMD. Random stuttering in games, poor performance in older titles, TDR issue, etc. But yea AMD does tend to take longer to solve issues with new games.
R7 265 is ~15% more powerful than a 750 Ti, though it depends on the game of course. Probably ranges from 10-20% depending on what you're playing.
I'm using a GTX660 right now and Shadowplay is really great. Don't like Physx much since most implementations seem to just fill the screen with debris and make it harder to see. If you like those features, then yea get a Nvidia card.

Um every single game...at their current price brackets, the only Nvidia card that performs better is the 780/Ti and possibly the 770 depending on how cheap you can find it.
Launch issues exist for both companies. I'll give the edge to Nvidia in fixing them faster

Well, that is just not true dude. :P
gtx760 outperforms the r9 270x in most tests, and I wouldn't call anything below an nvidia gtx x60 a gaming card, but a gtx750ti outperforms the R7 260 usually.
Now, I really don't want to get in a deep argument with you about which company is better, we are both PC gamers and we should fight with console kids instead (not really), and I'm really not a fanboy of any company, but I don't mind spending a bit of extra cash to get the best performance I can have for my price range, I understand that people go with their favorite manufacturer or want to save money or just can't afford more expensive PC parts, and that is all fine, to each their own.
Anyway, the OP asked for suggestions, and I gave him mine.

R9 280 (no X at the end) is just a bit more powerful than the R9 270x, therefore all 3 cards SHOULD be in the same price range. I would still suggest a gtx760 over either of those ATI cards because of well known driver issues ATI has, and because a ton of games today use nvidia physx, and ATI cards can't take it so the CPU takes the hit instead, resulting in lower framerates in games.

~10-15% faster which puts it a bit above the 760 in most games
Well known driver issues? What about the Nvidia driver issues? Neither company puts out flawless drivers.
Physx is hardly used in "a ton of games" but if you want it then go ahead and buy Nvidia.

I would advise a R9 270. With a R7 265 you'll be able to max lots of things but in a year you might regret the longevity that 30$ would have given you. Just did some research:
http://www.ncixus.com/products/?sku=91996&vpn=R9-270A-CDFC&manufacture=XFX&promoid=1016
145$ with mail in rebate and you'll be able to choose 2 free games like Tomb Raider, Thief or anything else in the list. A 760gtx might be slightly more powerful (around 2% on futuremark) but it'll cost you almost a hundred dollar more.. which is plain ridiculous. Happy gaming!

The best source I know of to answer the "which GPU" question is this:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107.html
And it gets updated monthly. There you can see which GPU to get according to your budget, and resolution.

PS3 has a lot of exclusives, buying a R7 265 + PS3 won't make him miss any PC games, people run much lower cards and play pretty much anything fine.

R7 265 is fine, you can easily run all AAA games with mostly high settings with no problem. Also be sure to buy the Sapphire one.I heard that some people having trouble with MSI one since it's fan is weird.
I'm thinking about buying an R7 265 too, but I gotta buy monitor first.I'm sick of playing with 1280x1024 resolution -_-

Depends what cpu you are using, think about GTX660 or 270 it not big price diffrence. Generally atm nvidia got better optimized drivers than amd . If you got some storng Intel CPU you don't have to worry, if you have amd cpu than i suggest going with nvidia.
