For me it went automagically to https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/store/alan-wake-2/9pnzh065x7pv after claiming the free trial and I could claim Alan Wake II . Thanks to MeguminShiro paladin and guardian of my wallet
Edit: honestly folks it's a bit like those cold fusion experiments. If you don't know the exact starting conditions you won't be able to reproduce the result. For me it doesn#t work.

Something to consider when you expect nontangible things to be yours :)

Firstly it will be free*.
Secondly, Microsoft's entire business model has been to take opportune moments, exploit and utilise them to benefit the end-user, and profit off them with the intention of continuing that model. Be that a standard Disc Operating System for different hardware setups on personal computers or establishing protocols to effectively communicate between peripheral devices. When Microsoft were limiting emails with a 5Mb maximum for users on Hotmail (While advertising to them and selling their data) Google took advantage of an opportune moment and exploited that and utilised it to benefit the end user with Gmail with a gambit of 1Gb limit per account.
Both email systems are intangible entities and yet both considered to be 'owned' by those who use them for important matters.
The laws of nature dictate that evolution will take opportune moments and exploit and utilise them for the benefit of the apex species of that time.
Now whether something should have been available as an opportune moment or not...that's a QA issue with teams of lawyers to support them on their findings. A court of law might not always be in their favour :)

The video game industry seems to be the only entity that can make a 'mistake' and then go into your home and steal it back. Imagine if your tire salesman had a buy 3 get 1 free tire sale and then claims 'whoops! the tires you bought actually weren't eligible!' and shows up at your home at 2am and steals one of your tires.

🆕 Update
🔻Since it was a glitch, Xbox had been revoking people who got it free in the past with the method below.
So probably you won't keep the game anymore.
Just saying, if the page asks you to enter your payment info...
There's a button saying Back, click that.
Then it magically works to proceed.
Probably quick to be fixed, so... good luck.
