This thread is for currently running videogame crowdfund projects, because nothing sucks more than hearing of a game AFTER it finished funding, when you missed the bonus goodies and discounts. Feel free to discuss anything related to keep the thread bumped so that your favourite projects get more exposure! Suggest any projects you think deserve a mention. The post-crowdfund thread has been retired due to the sheer size, sorry!

I'm not sure how many people this will appeal to, but I've decided to back Devil's Bluff, a videogame version of an old kid's game.

Oh cool, we listed this before. Good to see it re-launched! It's only $4000 off it's target so hopefully we'll see this one finished

It got funded with not much time to spare. Nice <3
It's aiming for a full steam release by halloween, given they have the main game mostly in place and just have to add in the now-funded additional content.

Yeah, which is a crying shame because they had a really solid classic Mario 64 sort of feel going on :/

Not sure if Nightcry (formerly Project Scissors) was mentioned before.
While it's 100% funded now, I think it's definitely worth keeping an eye on the development since a lot of talents were involved in the past in cult classics such as Silent Hill and Clock Tower.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have it up in a moment. A little late on into the campaign so the chances are slim, but at least we know to look out for it next time (if it doesn't get funded this time around).

Great catch. There is no in-game footage yet, but given the people behind it (and the promise of investors if they can get enough interest) means the odds are probably in it's favour. Already funded, so it's all downhill from there! :D

Tokyo Dark was already on the list, but I've slipped TtW up there too.
I do worry about the location of a forest tempting them to 'easy tension' with no payout, but if they're as enthusiastic about the horror genre as they say they are, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Plus after people pledge they can try the alpha. Just a bit weird they don't make that little demo section public...

The trailer isn't very appretising. Looks like a generic adventure RPG without anything else to go on.
Taking a quick sniff around it seems it has already been funded once in the past, too. With the benefit of the doubt and a footnote of warning, added!

It's all good. Just a lot of work to go digging through each of the projects, checking out their vital points / worrisome factors, and write up the brief descriptions. Without a description, most people would glaze over the projects we highlight in this thread, but it can get pretty time consuming and I don't like to cop out with "do your own research". xP

Luman and Defragmented looks really interesting. I might back them after I get my refund from nuuvem

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't see any appeal in Luman. Have I missed something? It's just a guy running around jumping platforms and dying if his helmet is impacted? Nothing else? :s

Defragmented has a great look and soundtrack but the pitch video really lacked any substance. The game they make could pretty much turn out like anything from the information they gave.

Just updated it again.

In future, when you suggest games to be added to the list, could you please include a short description of what the game is (genre, theme) and why it stands out to you? Simply being polished, having cool visuals and stuff like that are all valid, it just helps me with some counterpoint if I have a different opinion, plus it means I don't have to dig through whole campaign pages when a whole bunch get submitted. Try to consider any risks or game mechanics that might sway people or make/break the pledge. Thanks as always for your input!

The Eyes of Ara
An immersive Puzzle-Adventure game inspired by classics like Myst and modern exploration-based storytelling like Tomb Raider. The Eyes of Ara is an immersive, fully 3D Puzzle-Adventure Game, inspired by genre classics such as Myst. Explore a remote abandoned castle, solve devious puzzles, and discover lost secrets to uncover a long forgotten mystery.

+Very Myst-like game, I love adventures
+Good graphics
+Partially nonlinear as you can choose between more puzzles to do
+Good way to have a story by finding pieces of what happened in the puzzle rooms, you have to get those all together by yourself
+Bonus rooms, game doesnt end with the main story

TGL: ThanksGiving LIFE
TGL is a Open World Practical Life Tycoon & GOD simulation game in which a user acts as a god of the imaginary world and realizes dreams and desires of A.I. characters believing they are human beings.

+Unique idea kickstarter wise, great potential
+Looks good, weather is a nice addition
+Time that goes even when you close the game, making it more realistic
+You can control the things around the character like cars even throw pianos in front of your char
+Sleep Induction
-How much will it be limited for the player?

Shape of the World
Shape of the World is an ephemeral first-person exploration game where the world grows around you in a procedurally populated environment. It builds on the ideas of experiential games like Proteus and Flower where points and combat don’t enter the equation. An evolving world that grows with each step and hints at distant landmarks encourages the player to explore, offering a unique unfolding experience for those seeking an alternative to quest-driven adventure games.

+Great art style and exploration is the big part here which I like
-It could get very boring fast, unless they make a big world but with that goal I think they can

I really hope Perception will meet its goal, looks the most promising for me from all these. Yooka-Laylee should be a no brainer, I actually went for a boxed copy... And Bard's Tale 4 bundled with Tides? Yeah, I'll take that.

My wallet hates me this month.

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm pretty sure it will. It's got a solid 22 days left and it's over halfway there.

Do we actually get to pick what game we get for backing in the first 24 hours? Because I couldn't find anywhere that said that, just that you get a copy of Torment, Witcher 1 or Witcher 2, but no indication of actually picking the game. It could be a random game-key lottery.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You get to pick as far as I can tell from Witcher, Witcher 2 or Wasteland 2 as the games if you are in the first 24 hours. The tier with wasteland 2 on it would theoretically give you 2 copies of Wasteland 2 and 1 Copy of Bard's Tale if you so chose that.

I am in on the $20 but I keep debating if I want the one with Torment as well. Hoping it's an addon personally but I doubt it lol.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ooh right, I was mixing up the 24 hour thing with the $55 Torment tier.

Still, the 24-hour offer doesn't say you can specify which game you want, does it? People keep saying you can pick but I see no such wording, just that you get one of three games (W1, W2 or Wasteland2).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It doesn't explicitly say that, but it is implied. The way they talk about wanting to get Wasteland 2, their Kickstarted game, out there to people interested in this Kickstarter makes me think it will be a choice.

Either way, I'd pay $20 for this Bard's Tale game so I am ok with it. Worst case, I have another giveaway to make here.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, but it just seemed a little odd given the first two witcher games have been given away for free before, as well as having been on some pretty strong sales, whereas Wasteland 2 hasn't. Without that explicitness I just wanted to slip some caution in before people potentially got bitten. The choice is always nice, but when it comes to kickstarter it always pays to be a little on-guard I suppose.

Would it be ok to write about a movie's Kickstarter in the comments? They've got half of their $10,000 goal with 6 days left. It's a feature length horror film that will be shot entirely in my town.

You can discuss whatever you want in the comments! This thread normally sinks way off the front page until it gets bumped with new kickstarters. Any conversation keeps it in view for people to see, so it's a win/win. \:3/

Got a link to the kickstarter you mentioned? Maybe give it it's own thread?

Cool, thanks a lot. It's a dark comedy about a group of cultists and a sinister girl's association with them. It's called Grace's Room, the makers of it also have a successful Kickstarter under their belt for a film called River City Panic. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1288101369/graces-room

I made a thread here to promote RPC and the Kickstarter, it didn't get too much attention but there's been a decent bump in the amount of views the trailer got that I think came from the giveaways I've been doing. http://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/4Wzpr/i-was-involved-with-an-independent-feature-length-film-river-city-panic-giveaways

Steamroll
Steamroll is a puzzle and strategy game with a touch of arcade action and adventure. We like to say it takes elements from Portal, from the classic Marble Madness and from minigolf games. It creates a steam-punk atmosphere where you will have to solve puzzles by designing and shooting Steamballs from your vehicle to create ramps, walls, activate triggers, blow things away, and more.
Graphics are amazing plus its very unique

Also Night City campaign has been cancelled.

Thanks for the suggestions yet again!
But please, if you could write a brief description or analysis of the kickstarters with the links, it would be much appreciated. As I said before, it's more so people know what the game is about, what it looks like, and any particular features, risks and so forth. Copy-pasting the descriptions the devs are using often leaves out a lot of important details and means I have to dig through each link to try pick anything out, and it gets pretty time consuming when a list like this is posted. I would still probably look either way, but watching the pitch videos on my wobbly connection and having to flip through for various highlights. Thanks!

Also, I think I'll hold you personally responsible for my wallet haemorrhaging money today. |3
