1 pic is blue boba fett? with a water gun?
second pic is optimus prime that's became short?

You can say that, although one of them is trying to be a sexy boba fett and I am not having that. :B Boba Fett didn't show waist to Obi Wan in Episode II.

What? The first one is a Space Marine from WH40K!
Well, they both are.

Sorry, I forgot that despite humankind made advancements in medicine and technology, we have yet to detect sarcastic comments.
I was being sarcastic with the boba fett topic. :3

if boba fett looked like she does, he would have showed some waist to obi wan ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
Would that mean Jango Fett be touching the waist instead of a decapitated head later in the episode? :O
Comment has been collapsed.
well considering boba fett is a child in episode 2, that might be cause for concern if jango was touching boba's waist even if he was the dna sample for the cloning process - child abuse (sexual or otherwise) is not OK...

Boba Fett showing waist to Obi Wan... That's some fanfic in the making I'm sure.

Sarcasm doesn't exist in the internet, there is only sass, cats, smexy stuff, and lots and lots of more sass.

Tl;dr ~ sexually appealing cosplay has no effect on me.

Nice try, but no dice. I may have denounced sexuality for materialism.
Comment has been collapsed.
Human sexuality is a strictly materialist phenomenon, which humans only idealize due to their predilection for imagination. You'll need to find a better excuse than adherence to materialism.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm not sure how I could be more clear. Human sexuality—indeed, all sexuality—is already strictly materialist. Sexual orientation, attraction, preferences, identity, etc. are all within the domain of material reality. Although one can conceive of sexuality in a non-materialist—an idealist—way, sexuality is pretty much an exclusively material phenomenon. For those reasons, it doesn't really make sense to "denounce" (renounce?) one's sexuality in favor of materialism, since a materialist conception of reality does not exclude sexuality whatsoever. If anything, sexuality is a rather uncontroversial component of a materialist perspective.
Perhaps if you were "denouncing" sexuality in favor of some idealist conception of reality, like those preferred by abstinent religious monks and priests, then it would make sense to do so. As far as I'm aware, however, there are no materialist grounds for "denouncing" or renouncing sexuality altogether.

I guess accuracy plays a role; how accurate is the cosplay to the character
I've never read an issue but this seems to be an accurate depiction of the outfit Witchblade wears, it was not (further) modified to appeal to men (because it looked like that in the first place). So going by your definition it's good cosplay.
Comment has been collapsed.
The difference in these case though is that is the character whereas that first space marine is pure sexualization.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, obviously the 2nd one had a lot more effort put into it. The first one is primarily an attention grabber, maybe for a manufacturer/retailer?
Remove the helmet and bolter and there's just a skimpy outfit, not that that's a bad thing ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
As a man, I think she is cute too. However, effort is lacking - yes. The beauty is balanced out by the amount of blandness,.
Comment has been collapsed.
The first one is primarily an attention grabber
Yeah and that is most likely why some people (me included) don't think it's a very interesting one. I'd rather see someone that puts effort in and clearly loves it then someone that just wants some attention...

I think when so many women are being the cute-sy type and seeing so much of that behavior made feel fed up. In my mind I speak this: "Yes, you look beautiful on the outside and I recognize you put in effort for your make-up. But I want to know you on the inside - the humane side. How you feel, how you see things, what your opinions are."
Comment has been collapsed.
there is only one problem with that comment - people find different things sexual :) what you consider sexual may not be something that I, or anyone else, finds sexual - for instance I find nothing sexual about the two pictures you posted and thus do not consider them as sexual cosplay :)
Comment has been collapsed.
that is an assumption, it may be borne out in truth, but without talking to her I would not make such an assertion - for all I know she is being paid to wear it - and thus it is a job - the sexuality per se is something that I would say you are reading into it because you think that is what she is conveying (I could not say if that is the case or not without a lot more info) - but I appreciate that is your first thought, it was not my first thought :)

I think there is a difference, some famous "cosplayers" girls just make sexy cosplays (most of the time, like http://i.imgur.com/EzxMnEh.jpg, thats a boobsrizardcharizard, rofl), other people put a lot of efford on their cosplays and achieve awesome results. I think that's what Dnomyar96 said
Comment has been collapsed.
that is true - I spent a good many years doing live role playing - so loved costumes - and even though I do not do it now I still particularly love the steampunk and victoriana costumes - the time and effort put into those just blows my mind - so I agree with your sentiment :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Even if she was paid to wear it, the costume is definitely designed to be sexy. To deny that would be pretty naive. Switch out that water-gun with a couple of pom-poms, and you'll have a generic cheerleader.
Comment has been collapsed.
You don't need to find it sexy to see that it is meant to be sexy. We all have different preferences (luckily), but that picture shows something that is generally regarded sexy in our culture today. I'm all for changing what our culture regards as sexy, but I cannot decide that those things I do not find sexy myself, should not be regarded as sexy in general or at all.

I wouldn't say it's an assumption...skimpy clothes = Sexy......especially when you are portraying a character known for heavy metal armor. The witchblade examples I wouldn't assume was done just to be sexy...maybe they like witchblade..there's only one way to dress as her..and that is skimpy....however storm troopers with bare midriff , female darth vader in black bikini and so fourth is clearly an attempt to be sexy. No assumptions. It doesn't matter if you're being paid to do it, it's STILL someone trying to be sexy(Even if you don't consider it sexy)...Also, the first example? I highly doubt she was being paid to dress like that...paid cosplayers generally have better quality costumes than a cheerleader skirt, t-shirt, squirtgun and a poorly painted paper mache/cardboard helmet.

Cosplay can be anything. Doesn't have to be anime/manga or even games or movies. Old fairy tales would fit too.
Some people don't even have to disguise themselves to appear as the evil witch ...

thanks - now I can't get that nasty thought picture out of my mind - your work here is done - brain worm inserted and eating happily - derrr :P - giggle
to be fair - and whilst is may be annoying to some - I really don't care that the op doesn't like cosplay :), many do, and what they do is their business - as for the sexualised nature of it - it may be seen that way, it may not (personally I found nothing sexual about either image, and the first one I saw alot of in Japan and they were paid to dress like that at theme parks) - again, if those people men, or women, want to dress up an be happy about it, then good for them - there is little in this world to get happy about after all :)
thanks for the brain worm though - that is gonna eat away all weekend :)

Yeah I like the second it's cooler if they were both goin for space marine it's no contest 2nd is better. First one looks like a lost Sailor Moon chick.

Subjectively speaking, there should be no wrong way to cosplay, everyone has their own version and variations of a costume/character, their own skill and own materials, which can vary. Objectively speaking, if they distance themselves from the source material reference character too much, they can't really claim they are truly cosplaying that character itself...just a version of it, a personal version or just not an entirely accurate one. So one should not feel guilty or embarrassed for looking, people dressed like that to be looked at and admired (and preferably without touching without consent). That is my personal opinion as a fellow cosplayer.

Maybe the first girl is not curvy enough. They should dress like a slaanesh daemoness.
No man can resist them!

I agree, but sometimes I feel that is their only business.

You can't really make use those pictures to serve as a basis toward your premise-
The issue with them isn't accuracy or how much of the body is revealed, it's the fact that the first one looks so absurdly cheap and low-class that all that stands out is the sklmpyness, while the second one shouts out how much effort was put in to make it a quality appearance.
Also, what is accuracy? Zero Suit Samus is canon, but a skin-tight body suit is clearly more provocative than her power armor is. (And nevermind oddities like the Toaru Kagaku no Railgun beach episode, or basically every single thing about Shimoneta.) Nearly every humanoid character out there is going to have some variation, whether it has been presented in canon or not, where they've existed in a more casual dress [taking that approach with Darth Vader, however, is not advised].
While it's fine to scorn tastelessness in costumes, where criticism tends to highlight the "Look, I have boobs, so I don't need to worry about learning how to dress myself or properly apply makeup" mentality, that doesn't make an expression based in more casual apparel necessarily "wrong" , juvenile. or made with the intent to be sexual. If someone is comfortable in their body and doesn't want to lug around a 40 pound power armor costume, hey, power to them. Or, er. Not to..you know what I meant.
As long as someone is classy in how they present themselves (or hell, just having silly fun), who are we to judge the specifics, especially in regards to things that are perfectly natural, like the human body?
Heck, as far as having no fashion sense or cosmetic skills (or sense of self-dignity) goes, that's hardly limited to costumes- the people in question carry that over to their everyday wear, as well. If anything, pity the fact that the individuals in question were never familiarized with basic aesthetics, and that they may have been taught to have low self-standards [which, by the way, is not based in revealing your body, but in the reasons you decide to do so], rather than making the matter about their involvement in cosplay.
Yeah, sure, those cosplayers base their costumes in titillation, but again, that's hardly exclusive to cosplay- unless I've been mistaken about the existence of Hooters restaurants all this time.
So, not going to argue your distaste for costumes like that, but it is important to keep a broader perspective, and to not base such sentiments in prudishness alone.

I try to keep a broad perspective, but then I place the world on my shoulders.

i fine w. people trying to be as sexy as they can (that includes men) with their costumes, but there's a point where they cross into the WTF zone: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/c0/b1/5b/c0b15bcf97eb5b1bdd5caa540d4bd699.jpg
on the other hand, we have awesomeness like this to counter-balance it: http://geekologie.com/2016/07/caw-caw-man-creates-giant-raven-costume.php (also a chick, fwiw)

They're both heresy!
2nd is better, but should still have been a Sister of Battle, not a Marine. The cheerleader with a helmet can GTFO.
For me cosplay is more about faithfulness to source material though. If you want to dress up like a cheerleader, pick a character like Lollipop Chainsaw's Juliet Starling who actually wears such an outfit. Or a fighting game character who has such a costume in the wardrobe.
Want to look like a succubus ? Pick Darkstalker's Morrigan. Or Ninja Gaiden's Alma.
Pick a franchise that's not known for such fanserivce though, then you better not try to slut it up. It breaks character. And to me that means missing the point.

Somehow I feel as though I have been cheated by this thread as I am still awaiting additional cosplay photos. Sexy or otherwise.

WTF? A Soviet Warhammer40K Space Marine?!
I conclude they're both bad :)
No, I actually don't know shit about cosplay. Don't really care either, to be honest. Why shouldn't everyone play(?) cosplay like they want? It's not that there is some official body that publishes some sort of official rule set, or is there?
Comment has been collapsed.
No cosplay rules that I know of, but neither the rules for expressing opinion(except grammar).
Comment has been collapsed.
True. But I guess cosplay is just another attention economy, like many more nowadays. And this is just what you will get in the end.
To me personally the phenomenon of more 'revealing' cosplay seemed also a bit strange right from the beginning, it didn't really make sense to me. If I want erotic, I go for erotic, just skip the cosplay part entirely..
But I guess plain old erotic photography is also going extinct pretty soon on the Interwebs, all gallery sites seem to be straight hardcore only now..
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, if you put it this way. I actually did..
But if I'm attracted to Character X, then for reasons, and I usually don't find these in interpretations done by others. So cosplay etc. doesn't cut it here. Or maybe I have just not found it, yet ...;-)
On the other hand, there are bazillions of other characters (well, girls) for one purpose only, so maybe I just get distracted too easily :D
Comment has been collapsed.
Call me a whore but I like both of those outfits!
The first one is just trying to adapt a sexy outfit to a fictional character and the second however is a far more passionate labor, centered in accuracy and realism, I too applaud more the second one, however I still enjoy the first one because I like to watch sexy girls trying to appeal the geek crowd hehe.
Comment has been collapsed.
I think sexy can be fine if it's done tastefully, but the outfit in the first picture are lazy, shows lack of interest and are just plain boring. Also, sexy doesn't necessarily mean skimpy. Too skimpy are just tacky, methinks.
I could do with a few more scantly clad men, though. As long as they're pretty, that is (and shave their armpits). But it has to be done with style. Tacky is just... well, tacky.
Comment has been collapsed.
... I'll be honest and admit I misread that as "manboobs is the only thing I care about".

Not that I voluntarily look at such cosplays; only when someone else points them out. Methinks I feel guilty or embarrassed to look at a lady's cosplay because her curvatures are presented? Also, the amount of revealing skin is more than asked for...? What I mean is does a person needs to show the waist when the character in actuality has clothes covering the waist? I mean no harm to anyone, but if I did please forgive me.
So for visualization, I provided two pictures that relate to Warhammer 40K space marines. The first picture(top) is a cosplay I feel as uninteresting. The second picture(bottom) is the one that I find appealing. I guess accuracy plays a role; how accurate is the cosplay to the character in-game.
