Everything wants your subscription nowadays and it's just not feasible to sign up to them all. I don't look at YT everyday, so I couldn't possibly justify paying for it.

I pay for Netflix and Amazon Prime that's it. Those are mainly for my parents anyway (I help care for my Dad while working from home). And I have GFN for myself to play games when I get a chance. I don't really have the disposable income to sign up to everything that wants my sub. lol.

Thanks for the advice. But it's a big no from me. I just don't see the benefit, other than avoiding ads, which I do easily with my Firefox, +addblock (and fir the record, I do Whitelist Web pages that I think are worth the work they put, line SG, for example.)

About the gib, The Donnerwald Experiment seems cool, or at least has a nice looking girl on the cover. If it's taken, Once upon a Dungeon or Bleep bloop look fine

I once did try one of those free weeks of premium and it wasn't really worth it for me, using an ad blocker on Firefox gets me the same results on PC, and on mobile I simply deal with the ads or I can also use Firefox if I feel like blocking them. The only thing that would make it worth paying for me is YT music, but I can just use one of the many apps that do the exact same thing for free, just go check f-Droid, there's like half a dozen apps dedicated to circumventing YouTube's ads.
Also, I'd gladly watch the ads if they were more reasonably placed at the start and end, the only ones that annoy me are the ones in between.

If I knew the money would actually go to creators I watch, I'd do it. But considering half of them get demonitized over stupidity, I'll just continue watching without ads for free.

i don't understand why ppl have any problem with 5sec ads that aren't even in every video. i get it in like 1/3 watched, maybe 2/3 on a bad day. non-skippable ones are so rare that it's hardly even noticeable, sometimes it goes for days without them

I've tried YouTube Premium, and it's alright for those using the YT app. It makes the site much more useable. Especially the smaller videos, which are sometimes so much shorter than the ads they're hidden behind.

The free trial was for sure worth trying out.

I don't support shady practices.

Previously you could download audio / mp3 directly from Youtube, that is long gone.
They added adds to all videos. Previously Creators had a say but that is long gone.
Now you can happily pay to not see adds. And download content
I will ad block youtube forever

Thanks I see it came out in 2019. Might try it.
All the others gave up because Youtube changes their code ever 10 seconds
I'm still blocking them though.

I currently use IDM to download videos and then rip the audio with Audition

Admittedly not as easy to use as a browser extension.

I have been using youtube premium for over a year now.
I cant see myself go back without it. I use Youtube a lot on my phone and tv at home
I must say though that I only pay 5 usd/mo for it, if I had to pay 14 USD/mo like other post then I might have to revisit the concept of spending money on Youtube Premium.

Had YT premium because of YT Music for a couple of months. Didn't like it. Switched to Deezer. Don't have enough extra cash to have both. So nope.

question: why Deezer? and why you'd want YT too?

Deezer because the UI is better than YT Music on iPhone, it's considerably cheaper than Apple Music, and sound quality is better than Spotify.
YT premium would be nice for watching videos on cellphone without ads when traveling.

I'm fine with Firefox and Adblock Plus on YT, hate it with ads though, when using another browser.

Oh, and I very much dislike (and still didn't figure out how to get rid of them - don't really want to install another extension) those new "Shorts".

Enhancer for YouTube™ for Firefox have option to cover shorts
or just "X" on Shorts tab (for 30 days)

Thx, but X does not work for me for some reason (maybe NoScript interferes) and I just don't want to install more add-ons, as each add-on brings with itself potential new vulnerabilities.

Maybe worth it for listening to music on mobile, without ads and without wasting mobile data because YT music free comes with videos enabled.

Never, on principle. Google's making enough off of me with my data and personal information. Also I despise how they've been hindering the usefulness of search results in recent years. And I loathe how they're constantly dictating the development of the web for the worse, especially privacy-wise, thanks to their effective monopoly. Google is a despicable ad company foremost, and they will not take my money as long as I can avoid it.

that's not Google you're talking about, innit?

I am. Search results were definitely more relevant a bunch of years back when searching for something specific and not "facebook" or something. And worst of all, the company is politically motivated and tinkers with their search engine during elections for instance.

EDIT: Also they tore out NCR search which was used to not get local country-specific results. Just lame.
