So I've had my steam account now for about 6 years now and never really have I had much trouble with other member of the community.
However I have noticed recently (Since joining Steamgifts actually), a spike in the number of attempts of people who friend me in Steam and try to access my account.
The most recent attempt happened not 15 minutes ago, where I was sent a new friend request, then a link to "screenshot" of the game I was playing (Ark - Survival Evolved).
The "Screenshot" was a Malware Trojan (Thanks Bitdefender).
I reported it to Valve obviously.
I'm just wondering has anyone else noticed people getting sneakier and more aggressive in trying to steal accounts?

Getting sneakier? That particular method has got to be at least a year old now.

Used to get a lot, completely died down after steam started putting all those restrictions on low level accounts a few months ago. Hardly get any bother now.

I haven't had any phishing attempts in a while actually. I used to get them constantly..the screenshots, the trade links, and whatever else was out there. Could be because of whatever valve implemented with those level restrictions. Although, and this is an assumption, but I feel like the more active one is on the steam forums the more attempts will be made on their account.

I don't add people with private profiles / low level / bad steamrep / suspicious profiles. And even if I add a legit-looking person, I ask them why they added me (sometimes people see my trading thread but don't comment there and just add) if they reply nothing or crap, I'm removing them again. Never trust any links from strangers, too!

People never watch screeshots that I send them. T_T

Seriously, though, never happened to me, I almost always ignore friend requests that I don't know anything about and I'm not really active in the steam community itself (most of the time I'm here on SG).

Well, do not ever click links from people you don't know anything about.

Since Valve limited social interactions on profiles, their number considerably fallen. Previously my profile message was the filter (if one can read it s/he already passed the first test), since then I just don't open random links, automatic download/run option is turned off - I'm protected against the classic phishing. Though I don't even remember how many weeks, months ago was the last attempt (besides the sudden influx of "giveaway bots" who are just hijacked profiles, remaned to popular groups' names then try to add people and use the usual " you've won, pick a thing from the screenshot" scam. It's painfully easy to see through them, though :)

Got this one in August - needless to say, the link was to a .exe - actually a .scr screensaver, which runs the same way, and which fewer people know to avoid. Nothing since then, though.

Before the update I got 50 new friend requests from scammers in every 30 minutes.

Actually users actions lure the bots and others. Having an open (even worse full open) inventory, having inventory scanned at trading sites, having profiles on CSGO sites and others that your imagination can think of. They all harvest that information to decide on whom their next victim will be. Delete your traces and they're gone...

It was a problem, like 4-5 scammers in a week for me, but since Valve updated its anti-bot measures few months ago I had't received a single scam request

Sneakier, yes. More aggressive, no? :s
The majority of random adds I've had recently seem to be related to what groups I'm in and telling me I've won something. Even had someone pretending to be one of the groups leaders.
At least steam is doing something about them.

11 years on Steam and my blocked users are filled with shady accounts that send me al kind of links to pictures, screensavers and videos that most probably are trojans and other nasty stuff.
