You could always pause and get money back if monthly was cancelled for good, they can't bill you annually and decide to run with the money.

I'm not sure what you're saying, here. The "fancy deals" are also being offered to current subscribers. If you really wanted, you could "upgrade" for the 12-month deal, so it's not like there aren't any offers on the table for you. Still, it's your money. You should be allowed to do what you want with it.

Even $12 for 2 months would be more than I am willing to pay. Loot boxes are lame. The reason they don't tell you what you are getting before you pay is because they know that most people would not spend the money once they see the games. If they could make more money by just showing the entire bundle and selling it, they would. They are using psychology to take advantage of people.
Edit: Considering they have switched to showing some early unlocks, if there is a game you really want and it is worth the money to you, then obviously it is worth it, but I don't think it is worth gambling on the other games hoping to get something you would want. In the long run you will probably spend more money gambling and getting games you don't want than if you just bought the few you wanted to play in major sales.

and it worked, i ended up getting it even though i know i'll never really find the time to play overwatch.
i downloaded all trove stuff that i hadn't already checked out and canceled for november right away.
was offered a discount for that one aswell, but i didn't take it.
not enough time to play all games i already have as it is. the monthly is usually good value for price, i just don't have time to play 6 new games a month.
