Dont get me wrong,i like the service the sales and all that, but my god that client is shitty.I was downloading the freebie game,it got to 99 percent, and it started over.I was like ok,i dont hurry to play this i will just redownload.Exept it did it again. When i restarted steam,it started over.I can see the game in downloading, but the client dont gives a shit. Its slow, buggy,it freezes way too often so my question is do you have similar experiences or is it just me?

True enough, nevertheless having steam on linux is already great and since the adaptation is new issues are to be expected for a while.

I play offline most of the game, nobody bothers me, plus prefer to communicate by skype or teamspeak depending on who i play with. However it doesn't record your playtime if it matters to you ( i couldn't care less about that and achievments but some people do ).

All the hate people have is for EA.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Are you high? Can I have some of what you are smoking? Regardless of the hate for EA, there is no way origin can be considered a viable alternative to steam (though the poor buggers at EA would surely claim so).

The biggest reason people don't use Origin is because it is extremely poorly designed. It has potential but at its present state, it ain't going anywhere ....

Comment has been collapsed.

For how long have you used it? Bro, before I switched to Win 8.1 my Steam was loading for 2 minutes literally, if not more, while Origin starts up and autologins in few seconds and is ready to go. I've got literally no issues with it, while with Steam I have shit ton of issues, some are fixed, some aren't.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Actually, no I haven't used either on Windows 8.1 as I do not have it. Was a bit wary of upgrading my OS as some people were saying its not that great for playing older titles.

On my Windows 7, they both load and login really fast. I have no problem there. Its using the client, where Origin disappoints me. Especially the Store section is very sluggish. And the Downloads are just plain annoying.

And I've used both since the time they've been released. That is why I said Origin has potential. Steam when it was new, was down right horrible. But they got better. Instead of improving the software EA seems more interested in bringing in new users by offering free games. IMO that is a bad strategy and they need to fine tune their software.

At this moment, Steam is the best one out there and Origin is the only one coming somewhat in the vicinity. Best not speak of desura and that horrible thing called Uplay.

I played the whole origin bundle there and i see no differsence with steam EXEPT the steam iconomy
whitch is by playing one game you get cards-you can trade for ref/key etc.Other than that its a client like steam,it plays games,it haves achievements and so on.And now with this on the house promo more and more pepole are going to Origin, its only a matter of time that it becomes a true rival to steam. This is my personal opinion tho.

Well, i joined steam when MW2 came out, got it like 2 days after the release. played many hours

I cant say that i left steam because it was so bad, or that i was so tired of MW2. But yeah, steam looks as awful today as back in the day though.

Good God... I remember those days. Steam was rubbish back then when compared with today. Of course, it's still buggy today, but at least it runs (most of the time) without too much trouble. Everytime there's a Steam update, however, it crashes the next game I try to run. P

It freezes with a larger library. I have an alt account with a smaller library and it never freezes. It redeems games fast. On my main though it takes FOREVER to start up and to redeem new keys. Like seriously, FOREVER + 1 day. Overall though, I think the Steam client is fine. I never had troubles with downloads. It's easy to back up or move games too. Just drag and drop the folder to an external. When you reinstall it under the new location it discovers all the files like 98% of the time and doesn't redownload. The library sharing thing could be easier though. I keep losing people on that that I granted sharing too.

At what point does it begin to slowdown? I'm not noticing anything yet with nearly 500 games but I see you have a lot more

I'm very close to his amount of games and I don't have such issues. Starts up very fast (just like my alt with 300 games), may freeze 5 seconds when redeeming a key but that also happens on my alt account.

Both the client and the site are shit. Lot of bugs, services are often down, pages are loading for hours etc.

I have no idea why they haven't already done something about it when they clearly have the money. Steam should be as stable as Facebook by now.

I really want them to do a store, or complete steam websites' appearance overhaul...
Like they did once with community, they do to it again, with betters looks, and definitely better optimization/speed.

I've never had any issue with the client or site. Sometimes the client does seem a bit sluggish on my laptop (but its a shitty 2 year old laptop with a 4G mobile broadband connection which I use while traveling, what can you expect?), but on my PC it works just fine. I haven't tried installing it in my Linux PC and since I don't own any mac, I don't even know if a mac version exists :D

And the downloads work just fine for me. Actually works perfect. Origin on the other hand, is still very sluggish on all my devices. I've given up hope to get it respond faster. Not to mention the annoying downloading error (503 something?) that pops up every 5 min.
