weird thing when I used the Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes key

Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes - Map Pack DLC was already activated and by the look of it back in 2014. My own guess is that it is a carry over from the Fallen Enchantress:DLC of the same name. But it was a nice surprise;)

Your guess is correct, that DLC works for both games.
