Hey guys,

recently I used IdleMaster again and got 300+ cards to drop. Now I've tried selling a few cards but I had to confirm EVERY sale in the Steam app. Since this is kinda annoying, I wondered if this behaviour of Steam is normal?

Thanks!

Yes, every single item.

Absurd innit. How it got through QA without a confirm all button is a genuine mystery.

You can use the desktop authenticator for auto-confirm.

Can you lock yourself out with this one? I think ASF has this function, too but there was a warning that you can lock yourself out of your own account if something goes wrong.

Yes if you forget the Revocation code and dont take any backup SteamGuard codes.

Not if you keep your encryption passkey and revocation code safe.

I'm using Steam Desktop Authenticator with auto-confirm market transactions ticked, however you still have to click at least 3 buttons per card on steam just to get them on the market.

Sell > popup window with price input > ok > another popup thing with an ok button. All in all it's a pain in the ass.

Steam Inventory Helper plugin. One click.

It might not seem like much but over 300 cards as in OPs situation it adds up.

Cheers, I'll take a look into that. ;)

It's a pain with any number of cards. Took me about 10 minutes just to get about 30 cards on the market the other day, but it's also my own fault as I like to check what they are currently selling at & how many are being sold at the lowest value. If it's less than a certain value I tend to add them to the next value above as too many people bang them on the market at lower prices to sell faster but as a result the card values end up getting less & less as other people will undercut those values too. Vicious cycle. :D

It doesn't show how many are currently listed but it does show how many have sold in the last 24 hours. It also has buttons for "sell at X" and "sell at y". Default for x being lowest listing -0.01 and y being match highest buy order.

Ah ok. Thanks for the information. I don't have that many cards as I tend to add them not longing after unlocking them. Unlocking cards while I'm playing or using IM while I'm doing something else doesn't unlock them fast enough for me to be concerned about having to bulk sell at the minute, but I'll keep it in mind.

Same thing happens to me. Although I only sold 3 cards so it wasn't that bad but wow, 300 cards?!?!

I'm glad I got rid of most of my 5,000+ cards just before this crap was forced on us!

Yeah, you can buy a $400.00 game package and immediately give it away but buying a $0.03 skin requires confirmation & trading it requires a waiting period and confirmation.

Valve is actually driving traffic to scammy sites with these policies.

I suspect it's because the game packages are covered by some kind of anti-scam protection to reverse the transaction if it turns out to be fraudulent whereas sales through the market aren't reversible so they make you bang your head into a dozen brick walls first. kind of like the difference between buying from a chain store and from a car boot sale

The big game package reversals are more likely to involve chargebacks with credit cards which cost the company money.

I would guess it's the volume of scammers. They could still have a more sophisticated anti-fraud system weighted by age & value of account vs item value. A $400 skin could have a longer waiting period than a $0.07 card, etc.

definitely. I can see some sense in the system but it needs to be more user-friendly. it's possible that this is just an initial cover-our-arses phase while a better system is developed but my hopes are not high

Also stops sales by Valve a bit in my opinion, every sale i sold my cards, and bought <$1 stuff.
Now i can't be bothered anymore.

This is true, many people have simply stopped participating. Even jshackles, the developer of Enhanced Steam & Idle Master has quit and you can see the volume of trade has gone down dramatically.

I used to tackle sales by going to steamdb and sorting by cheapest and working through the list with card funds. But I've bought almost all the sub dollar stuff now anyways.

Thanks for the replies so far, guys. Man, this is troublesome. I can see why Valve would request a confirmation on high-value items such as some CS:GO skins but on cards.. really?

Permalink

it's exactly why I haven't bothered to sell my cards. too much trouble just to sell something for 5-15 pence

SO much! Thanks, Valve. I'd feel safer if I had to input a 30-digit code prior to starting a game, though.

It's so damn annoying, not only do I have to enter a new code every time I log in but now I have to go into the cruddy app and accept every single individual trade? Gah lol. It's a Steam account not a national security archive.

You can try using an emulator on your PC like me. It's less annoying than using a phone to confirm every trade.

You know how hard it is for Valve to add a single button which will "Confirm All" pending items? Very hard!

Well
Is there any news on this subject ? I have about 10,000 cards to sell.

Can I not just transform all my cards into gems and voila ?

they changed that you only need to confirm for items worth more then 1$
There are nice tools, like Steam economy enhancer, which sell them all for you

This happens if you sell large numbers of items or after reaching a certian $ amount in total sales within a specific time frame.

I decided to clean up my inventory by selling trading cards a few days ago and it seems like I triggered that spot. After selling ~100 of my cards I suddenly had to confirm the action for the next cards

That probably happened, sold 20€ worth of items, but that was like 2 weeks ago and it still hasn't "recovered" from that. It's annoying to have to confirm every 0,01€ item :P

Considering I have gone months without selling any card and when I do it is not much but I still have to confirm every sale but the first of the day I wouldn't hold my breath.

I don't think I have to provide confirmation for my first listing as long as the card isn't worth a lot and I haven't made any new listings in a day or two. So if you want to avoid confirmations, just spread out creating your market listings over one year, lol

Or just use any of the alternatives to confirm all with single click or even automatically. I hear it works much better than necroing ancient threads
