Until recently people were saying that you need it to survive. Even if it is now proven that it is not the case, most people still think so and are teaching the next generation this way, even if vegetarianism is growing quickly thanks to the access to information and even directly to scientific reports, most people still think you gonna die if you don't eat meat. Also not everybody has yet access to alternatives in sufficient quantity and quality at any time, for example poor countries with harsh climate. You loose a lot in quantity and quality( nutritionally and environmentally ) by eating meat, but for some it is still the easiest and cheapest option atm. Not gonna last thought.

Wrong. You lose a lot in quantity and quality( nutritionally and environmentally ) by eating plants only. It is telling there are cultures that survived on pure meat diet, there are NONE that survived on plant only one (not without diseases and 20-30 year long life expectancy). Meat is source of too many essential fats and vitamins. Even today, you can't make balanced diet without using airplanes to ship various plants all over the world to get nutrients you're lacking in local ones while greatly polluting environment.

By the way, you are aware than on some soils animals thrive much better than plants we can eat? There is reason why Scottish and Carpathian highlands didn't grow plants, they were shepherds, because crappy mountain soils wouldn't produce anywhere near amount the food you could get by herding sheep. Oh, and these sheep grazed fields happen to be full of biodiversity, unlike modern monoculture farms that could as well be dead land from nature's perspective. So much that ecological institutes now buy sheep to keep the fields grazed naturally and stop harmful overgrowth after dumb vegetarians tried to stop sheep farms. "Ecology", my ass :|

How is that telling ? There is plenty of vegans and vegetarians, and they live long and healthy lives, i am vegan for 9 years and got more muscles and more energy than everybody i know, perfect blood results and clinically in perfect health. No culture has ever needed to go vegetarian, and its only now that many scientists say it will son be a necessity. There is nothing in meat you cannot find somewhere else or that your body cannot make by itself ( meat is a body, remember ? If it can only be found in a body, it's because the body makes it, that includes yours ). Your argument about plants transport is bad, the pollution caused by meat both directly and directly is greater than any plant transport.

Yes i am of course aware of the soils differences, and they are insufficient to respond to the wants of people in terms of quantity, you're not going to feed the world with that, especially with an ongoing desertification.

Sorry, humans who eat meat will always exist. Even if it ends up being lab grown meat, its still meat.

Humans became omnivores for a reason, we really should try to stay as such, but you have the right to eat what you want, and not eat what you do not want.

Of course, I admit.. I am not the best at doing what I should, and admit I am primarily a meat eater.

But everyone is free to make their own opinions :P I respect those who want to eat only plants and products from plants.. however, most seem to have a misconception about them not killing living things by choosing to eat that and not meat.

The omnivore part is open to debate those days with scientists for and against.

Some paleontologists, anthropologists and nutritionists state it clearly enough : you cannot tear apart flesh with your hands, nor with your teeth ( the canines we have are not enough, have nothing in common with the canines of a carnivore, and have much more in common with the canines that every vegetarian animal has ), our body is not one made for meat. We can eat it, but we will have all the bad of it that a real carnivore or omnivore would not get, simply because are bodies are different.

Diablo 1 (+hellfire) is better gameplay-wise than Diablo 2 + LoD. Diablo graphics are one of the best 2d artworks I've ever seen.
Most of the GTA games are lame.
People who watch gameplay streams and reviews are sheeps.
The only downside Revenant had was the storyline. Other than that, it was a solid and innovative RPG.
Severance: Blade of Darkness was a solid title. Gameplay-wise it's still better than a lot of today games.
Geralt looks better in The Witcher 1.
This is how a plate armour looked like. They were not meant to be sexy, but to keep the men-at-arms alive. Women armours were not equipped with brassieres or heels, like in this picture. They made women armours just like the ones for men - Joan D`Arc in armour. Women should hardly ever appear on the battlefield in medieval games. Before creating a game, they should consult some historical sources - when I see these kind of things in a game, I tend not to like it anymore.
Gameplay-wise, Dungeon Siege 3 is awesome.
Red Orchestra is one of the best shooters I've ever played. I don't get all this hype about CS.
Medieval japanese warriors were not that strong - in fact they had rudimentary equipment and techniques compared to Europe. There is a reason why we had so many weapons in Europe compared to other continents (including Japan).

A lot of femminists are asking for female characters virtually everywhere, even when storywise they should not be there.A videogame about boxes?but why are there no female boxes?
That is something that I do not like as well, or things like the Bechdel test, that is extremely flawed but still used(oh wow I saw a documentary about lions in the savannah, but I didn't like it because it fails the bechdel test. And believe me I saw a lot of movies being given a bechdel test even tough it makes no sense given the context of the movie). While I completely support the Finkbeiner test.
I've always hated skimpy/sexy armours in video games, and most of the times just made a male character, just because a female one would extremely bug me.
And also I think people are trying too hard to be politically correct.

Yes but the test has it's flaws, and I do agree with critic robbie collin with the test being a: "box-ticking and stat-hoarding over analysis and appreciation", and suggested that the underlying problem of the lack of well-drawn female characters in film ought to be a topic of discourse, rather than films failing or passing the Bechdel test.
On the other hand I completely support the Finkbeiner test, every time I see an article like: "she cured cancer, solved world peace and hunger in the world, AND SHE IS A WOMAN!!" i cringe. What the hell does that even mean, since when an accomplishment is better when you are a woman,it's like saying being a man and doing it is ok,but hell she did that and she's a woman, can you believe that? And this is a thing into which woman writers fall into too often as well.

I think that in modern society accomplishments lose their value if they are done by a woman. Or rather being a woman overshadows everything else in the eye of the beholder so it no longer matters what she'd done.

As for women writers, they just like their male counterparts seem to not know how to create a good female character. Rather than defining her through her aptitude, abilities, dreams, hopes, ambitions, they tend to define her through her husband, or father, or children.

I think that privacy is something we should strive as a society to get rid of. While I think that the sudden, immediate removal of privacy would have very negative effects on our CURRENT society, I hope we see a day where we can finally be fully open and honest with one another. What is privacy, really? I'd say it's most simply defined as "The ability to do things one is ashamed of without the criticism of others" and ultimately if you are ashamed of something then there is a reason for that. I think that if privacy goes away, we will shortly thereafter see that many of the interests people are ashamed of are actually shared by a much greater number of people than previously thought. I also think that privacy is the reason that the phrase "it's only illegal if you get caught," exists. It is because people have these private lives that they are free to sulk about in the shadows and do things that society has deemed to be wrong.

"You do know that 'it's only illegal if you get caught' is more of a joke than actual thing?"

Except it's not. Maybe the phrase itself is, but how many things do you do daily that are technically illegal? Drugs? Software piracy? Running red lights? Even if you don't, you probably know someone who does, and continues to do so without punishment. The fact that so many people break laws without a second thought means that there are too many laws and/or that not enough people are being caught. Personally I think it's a combination of both but the point is that there are too many "exceptions" to the rules, and that this could be lessened if people didn't have a private life to sink back into and break the rules. As I said before, if these things were all done out in the open, we would better be able to reevaluate whether or not they should be illegal, as well as properly find and punish those who break the rules that should remain in place.

What RIGHTS exactly? Answer me the age-old question: What do you have to hide?

If your concern is the law, but you are doing nothing illegal, then there is nothing the law can do to punish you.

If your concern is people thinking that you are strange or even amoral, then either face their opinions or change your behavior. As I said, if more people were willing to speak up about their supposedly outside of the norm behavior then maybe we'd find that it's not actually as far outside of the norm as we think.

Why not? Why should your desire to hide supersede my desire to seek? Why can I not have all the information I desire so that I may make the most informed decisions possible? Why would you deny me that?

I have complete doubt that there is a legitimate reason that doesn't amount to "because people will think poorly of me" or "because I'm doing illegal things and don't want people to know" or "BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO" and your answer doesn't remove any portion of that doubt.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There are many possible answers and I see nothing wrong with "BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO". Why should someone oblige/be forced to do what someone else wants? If they do not want to but there is a "higher" reason then the current (flawed) system has provisions for it, eg a search warrant. But if it's just a whim, then that's not good enough. The way you say it makes it sound like you don't even understand the notion that other people have rights as in "Someone's rights end where someone else's begin". It also seems like you have no idea why legislation to protect privacy was enacted.

Bioshock Infinite is poorly written, with bad and cliched characters that do nothing new or interesting through an on-rails journey of tropes. The original was well written and interesting. Improvements in graphics and gameplay aside, it is a washed out shell of what the series began as.

The Beatles have a couple of good songs I enjoy, but I can't stand the majority of their discography.

I hate the Reddit comment system, and the ego whoring that the site as a whole encourages. When people proudly announce their use of the site, or call themselves a Redditor, I find it very difficult to take them seriously.

I prefer the combat, sound design, class design, and progression in Diablo 3 head and shoulders above Path of Exile and Torchlight 2, etc. I think it's a step above Diablo 2, and aside from a foolish volume of nostalgia, and a rocky start, and to a limited degree the RMAH, Diablo 3 was, and may still be at the top of the genre for quality.

I think that it's way too taboo to insult people's sexuality. Now before you think I care who you're screwing, I don't. I just think that calling someone a faggot should be considered no worse than calling someone a fat fuck, a dipshit or an ugly cunt (please excuse the quantity of vulgarity, but had I omitted it someone could have easily countered with "butt faggot iz bad wurd! fat stupid n ugly r not bad wurds!"). After all, the main argument for why it's unacceptable to call someone a faggot seems to be that their sexuality isn't something they choose, right? Do you think people choose to be slow learners, to be ugly, to be fat?

That said, I don't see the big deal with the actual hate (if you really think name calling is hate, I think you're overly sensitive) of non-straight people. I think it's just as silly to insult people for an attraction to the same sex as it is to insult people for preferring blondes to redheads.

And now for some video game related ones:

  • I think the N64 was the most overrated console ever.
  • I think the Dreamcast was the most underrated console ever.
  • Resident Evil 3 and Code Veronica are the best in the series. Resident Evil 4 was garbage.
  • Nintendo's big current franchises had their best games on the Super Nintendo. Super Mario World > Super Mario 64. A Link to the Past > Ocarina of Time. Super Metroid > Metroid Prime.
  • Final Fantasy VIII was the best Final Fantasy game (hence current franchises above). The junction system and card mod were both brilliant systems that suffered from a very sad lack of balancing. Level scaling was admittedly a terrible idea and I have never seen a game in which I did not hate that sort of thing.
  • Borderlands 2, while fun, is nowhere near as amazing as the Diablo-II-with-guns Borderlands 1.
  • The Metal Gear Solid series is boring.
  • Stealth is overall a boring mechanic. I find it a fun challenge to play games and missions that are tailored to stealth without using stealth, and missions that are tailored to avoiding combat by killing all enemies.
  • Realistic shooters are boring and I feel that people who like them are generally people who feel like having a gun IRL makes them "cool".
  • Final Fantasy IX is the worst Final Fantasy of the PS1/PS2 era.
  • Tekken is the best series of fighting games.
  • Fighting games are awful with a stick, arcade or otherwise. D-pad all the way.
  • Point and clicks are boring.
  • While I think GenI probably had the best cool-to-stupid-looking Pokemon ratio, there are plenty of good Pokemon in every generation I've played (I-IV) and the mechanics get better and better with each generation (since the last time I said something like this, someone asked my age, I'm 25 and had Blue when it was fairly new and Yellow on release day).

I guess that's it... for now. :P

EDIT:

  • Controllers feel much better than keyboard and mouse control. FPSs are much easier to play with a controller (and yes I disable aim assist whenever the game allows it)
