It's going to be Narnia and Castle of Illusion all over again :/.

Edit: Forgot Steam killed gifting. Never mind, I'm silly.

It sure could be. I know Sega announced the impending removal of Virtua Tennis 4 a year or two ago and I don't think that one is coming back. :/

Castle of Illusion came back though.

Which caused a bunch of resellers to cry. I forgot that Steam killed gifting which means peeps can't buy 30 copies and expect them to hit the $100+ mark when they barely go for more than base.

they could stock on keys tho.

anyways ->

Will you bring Alan Wake back to stores?
We are looking into relicensing the music for Alan Wake, but have no timeframe for this.

What happens to Alan Wake’s American Nightmare / Will other Alan Wake SKU’s also disappear?
Alan Wake’s American Nightmare will remain in stores. Remedy negotiated the music licensing for Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, we did not negotiate the licensing for Alan Wake’s licensed music.

Mixed feelings about that tbh ...

I can see many of the re-sellers to just buy 50 copies and try to resell them for 10x Profit in a year .

People stockpiling gifts of removed games seems to be a scenario where everyone wins. Devs/publishers/steam can sell a lot of games that wouldn't be sold otherwise. The people stockpiling make a profit. And the people paying a lot for the removed game later, get a game they wouldn't be able to get otherwise.

It is not like they are buying up a limited stock of items to resell on Ebay and thereby preventing people from getting it from the store.

True , but the ridiculous prices they ask for such stuff is what been bothering me .

Yeah its an investment , but to be fair i was pretty happy to see them getting burned with the Castle of Illusion gifts >.>

I dont think its a win win situation , i think its a situation where steam found that people are making massive profits on their back reselling stuff , so they decided to patch that hole and make it so only they can profit from it ...

Is it good or bad ... i dont think its good but its definitelly not as bad as some people who are mainly affected by it are trying to make it look like .

Supply and demand. Capitalism, baby.

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't think Steam cares that much if people are making profit on them or not. Especially if other people making profits also means they are making profits.

I assume they are way more concerned about people stockpiling gifts on sales (price glitches) and then undercutting regular sales prices.

The base game is 90% off right now at the WinGameStore:

http://www.wingamestore.com/product/4824/Alan-Wake/

The base game and collector's edition are 90% off right now at IndieGala:

https://www.indiegala.com/store/product/alan-wake/108710

https://www.indiegala.com/store/product/alan-wake-collectors-edition/13535

All of those are Steam keys, so you can buy them as gifts to give away later.

Great game. I recommend grabbing it. It's well worth even the full price for the overall atmospheric experience.

Permalink

Exactly! A great addition to the Survivor horror genre. As a hardcore fan of Silent Hill, I highly recomend it.

Permalink

It has similarities to Silent Hill?! :D

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, it came closest to being a good quality game with the same features as SH is/was - creepy atmosphere that keeps you on your toes all the time, nice sounds, good story etc. :) I was so happy when it came out because nothing could compare to the SH atmospehere in its entirety until then :D Although, don't expect a SH length, Alan Wake is shorter.

Comment has been collapsed.

As a hardcore fan of Silent Hill, I highly recommend it too, haha. I expected some generic and lame story from Alan Wake, but it managed to pleasantly surprise me on more than one occasion, and after Silent Hill series it's quite an achievement on its own. I guess they're similar in a way how convoluted their stories are. Gameplay-wise Alan Wake is a bit more about action and guns, but both are creepy and atmospheric experiences. I'd say AW is a must-play for any horror fan.

It's been bundled and heavily discounted before, so probably a lot of people should have it already. Also there is a chance this game comes back if they were able to get a new licensor for the music.

Alan Wake 2.0, Poets of the Fall swapped to Lil Wayne

Haha, it's more likely for every other song to be replaced by Lil Wayne than Poets of the Fall, as they're good buddies with the devs.

Actually you need 130 removed games to join. You can check your count here

However, you still can join group chat without being a member and subscribe to the steam group discussions and even enter our discord challel, if you like so.

So it's only removed games, not disabled game even though some of them are pretty much definitely removed? because then my count would be 169.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's correct. Only the games under the "Removed" list count. "Purchase Disabled" games do not count towards the 130 required games. :)

No, it is similar to, for example, Last of Us or Resident Evil Revelations 2 (which actually stole quite a bit from Alan Wake, including an entire stage), only if it was written by someone imitating Stephen King, but having actual talent (so like Stephen King 40 years ago).
Gameplay is a linear third-person shooter, although the emphasis is on discovering the 200+ hidden items and doing some mild puzzles, with an eerie, almost horror-like atmosphere. Eventually it becomes combat heavy, where combat means you have to use some kind of a light source (mostly your flashlight) to dissolve enemy armour, after which you use conventional weapons to kill them. This combat is actually a pretty weak point, this is why it is interesting that the spin-off, American Nightmare, decided to build itself entirely on doing long hoard and arena fights with the exact same system.
Also, the core game originally shipped intentionally half-finished. A third of the story, the actual ending was chopped off and sold as DLC, but the Steam version has those integrated now.

On the other hand i think it's worthwile as i've found the combat solid and a good atmosphere, united with a very good engine. Not much variety in enemies (it's mostly humanoid assholes and poltergeists), but there are not many games where you have to manage your light sources to make enemies vulnerable to weapons and Remedy has always a distinct style of narration. At 90% of discount, it shouldn't be missed.

EDIT: just noticed that someone necro'ed the thread, disregard my reply.

But PotF is on American Nightmare and it's fine.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That doesn't mean anything. Music is typically licensed for a specific timeframe. Five years is common which would hold up in this case as the PC version released in 2012. American Nightmare was also released in 2012 but their comments imply that American Nightmare was licensed differently, so it may well have been licensed for a longer period.

It has literally been 4 years since it was initially featured in a Humble Bundle. If you couldn't set aside $1-$2 in the past 4 years, then you don't really want the game. There is no room for debate here.

Haven't had a job in 4 years. A lot of businesses in this area have closed down, and too many people are competing over what's left.
We are getting some new tech jobs in the area (Plus Gigabit Internet sooner or later) so that's always a plus.

Regardless of your employment status, saving a few dollars in 4 years is extremely possible. That is, if you really really want the game.

I just bought it on IG. IIRC it was always going to be a stretch for my then computer or GFX card, so I didn't buy it and then I never got around to buying it a few months or so later when I got a new PC. Also, it's not my favourite kind of game genre - I like strat/sims - but I like a "GOOD" game, pretty much whatever the genre or subject matter, so I'm looking forward to giving it a try. Unfortunately, I can't play it now as SCS just did the dirty on me and released a new add-on for ETS2, and I cannot resist that, I just can't!!
