Comment in this topic may and will contain spoilers to newest GoT episode.

So what do you think? For me it was first really good episode of this season. Ending of previous one was great as well, but rest was meh, but now seems like this season is starting to get better.

Also... HOLD THE DOOR!

Hodor (always and forever) <3

What if Bran the Builder is actually Bran who travelled back in time? What if the Mad King got mad 'cause of the 3 Eyed Raven? So many what ifs

Hodor's death and the revelation of his past was heart-breaking. T.T . I don't think I've ever hated a Stark as much as I did in that moment. But apart from that, the scene was game-changer. Considering, that Bran can influence the past opens up lots of paths.

I don't hate Bran for what he did - he was forced to make this decision - if he haven't done what he did, what would change? If he wouldn't foirce Hodor to hold the door, Hodor would die anyway, together with Bran and Meera. and since Bran is supposed to be extremely important to stopping White Walkers (Death King himself together with all his army coming to hunt one little crippled boy, one giant retard, one girl and one old man? seems a little overkill ;p) his death may as well mean death of all the people in Westeros. So he didn't really had any choice. If he didn't sacrifice Hodor Hodor would die anyway, plus all they worked for so far would go to waste

It's not the holding the door part but the fact that the Raven insisted that he not go on a vision trip without him and that's exactly what he did which led to the following events. It's the same when his mother told him not to climb and yet he still did. However, this time the consequences were much more severe. A person with this much power needs to be careful and Bran seems to be quite recklessly ignoring advice. That's what me dislike him. Otherwise, I would understand why Hodor had to stay behind.

well, if we are really in a time loop, then Bran screwing over was pretty much predefined. If he didn't he wouldn't change Hodor into Hodor in the past, if he didn't there would be no Hodor to carry him to the North, if there was not, he wouldn't be able to screw up ;p And he wouldn't bre able to learn to time travel in the first place ;)

Sorry but I gotta disagree. What so horrible exactly happen that makes GoT attitude towards women worse than towards men? The setting of the world in GoT is very brutal and unforgiving - both towards males and females. I really don't get the vibe that suddenly show became hostile towards women only. Sure - there's been some very bad things that happened to female characters. But as many hapened to male characters as well. I personally find it not only silly but also childish - when male characters suffer it's ok and totally fine, they can be decapitated, tortured, butchered, poisoned, mutilated, burnt alive, castrated and so on and on and it's totally fine. But if anything happens to female character everyone loses their mind? It doesn't make the show chauvinist, if anything it makes it equal - in a brutal and unforgiving setting brutal and bad things may happen to any character regardless of his/her gender/age/status etc.

Nah, I get it that GoT is brutal, that both women and men are killed, tortured and so on. And it's part of the show.

I just don't want to see that women are treated like that. That's all :D It's not "women are treated worse than men! OMG OMG OMG!" xD

oh, ok then ;) I got wrong impression then ;)

I remember last season a global outrage from all kinds of SJWs after Sansa's rape scene - that GoT is promoting rape, that it is rape culture, that GoT is anti-women, that GoT should be boycotted and I was like "WTF? I get that it was a brutal scene, I got disgusted by Ramsay as well during it, but what the actual fuck, did you all notice that Theon has been tortured, skinned alive, castrated, mentally broken, suffering stochholm syndrome and so on and on for more or less 3/4 of season and it was totally fine with you?" ;p

I watched it in english, but I was wondering: did anyone here watch it in another language? How did they manage to do that joke with his name? I believe he is called Hodor in spanish, but you don't say hold the door the same way...

I was wondering the same but I think they will just translate "hold the door" literally and move on. I've seen worse.

seen a clever translation to polish today. Bran screaming "Zatrzymaj Hordę!" (Eng. "Stop the horde" - because there's a horde of undead coming), Hodor focusing on word "Horde" and it sounds familiar to Hodor ;)

Well, you gotta build the season first, so it has to start somehow low.

Indeed was the best one, but some events in previous ones were also interesting. End of ep 1. and 2, sansa;s reunion and the boltons.

No one is safe as we were told, though I'm pretty sure Tyrion, Jon and Daenerys will make it to the very last episode.
I'm sad to see the big man go, very well done imo (If I remember correct this was never covered in the books but its been long ago since I read them)
Favourite character in the show: Ramsay. Oh man, watching that one die will be so satisfying. I hope he stays for some seasons though, we need an uber bad guy. He's actually the first only main/support character we havent seen a positive side of.

it was not. the only two things I can think of show didn't catch up with books before this season was Danny and Sam. Danny already caught up (and went forqward) so atm everything what isn't Sam-related is off-the-books stuff. (Well, there's also Dorne, it didn't catch up as well, but the show storyline of Dorne is 90% original replacing whole story-arc from books, so I don't count it ;p)

I doubt mr. Martin will finish the books now the series became such a success, there's no use really.
I always expected he wouldnt finish this, as his heart goes more to watching sports and travelling the world. It frustrated me back then ;). Im glad this gets closed by the tvseries and am sure it will go as Martin intended.
But its fun to watch something new tbh. When you read the books youre always looking at the things that go different in the series. At least now I can continue watching with an open mind and without spoilers.

After the last episode and watching the preview of the next one, Coldhands hype? who else will save Bran and Myra ? Personally i think they encounter Coldhands, who saves them from the wights.

Also, considering that Sansa sent Brienne to Riverlands and that Thoros of Myr (Red Priest) has been confirmed to show up in the season, any chance of her being captured by Lady Stoneheart?! I know it's from the books, but wouldn't it be interesting? As the series are catching up to the books (Greyjoy saga), i think it's a possibility.

Regardless, i'm excited for the rest of the season. Hopefully the Bolton fight vs Wildlings from trailer will deliver the same excitement like Hardhome did from season 5.

Haven't seen preview yet, but well - there are multiple thingsw that can happen. Ofc there's coldhand, but there's also possibility for some Wildlings who didn't cross the wall, remember most of army scattered after the giant battle. There can also be some kind of Benjen Stark plottwist, or things we simply cannot even think about now ;p

As for <3 I doubt they will introduce her in the TV series. The reason they didn't resurect her in the serieds is so they could use resurection to bring Jon back, but they still give you idea that it is something extremelly uncommon. If they just start resurecting another character so soon after previous one the series will lose it's main edge - you will no longer feel emotional about anyone dying, because whatever, they can be rezzed anyway. It's kind of why noone cares about Sam or Dean dying on Supernatural anymore ;p

Did some research

apparently, GoT Season 6 Trailer 2 at 1:19(https://youtu.be/EI0ib1NErqg?t=1m19s) has a rider killing someone with a fire. On his right, there is a person (presumably Meera covering Bran on his sleigh, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmCYmgwPyAI&feature=youtu.be&t=218). Since it's not an elk, Benjen Stark seems like more reasonable explanation.. HYPE?!!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

or it can be Coldhand but in TV aseries he's simply not an Elk ;) Or we can have one of conspiracy theories end up being confirmed by TV show and Benjen Stark end up being Coldhand. Also it can be just some interference by someone else from Night Watch. Or just some Wildling who got a horse after Stannis battle with Wildlings. Or many many other things ;p Because sure it is Winter, but it doesn't mean this scene must be happening North of the Wall. Keep in mind that Winterfell is also under snow atm, so it can be any scene happening anywhere at the north ;) Ofc it's 90% sure Bran, but it's still not `100% neither is Benjen ;)

The tree is way far on north, farther than Craster's Keep, where most of the Night's Watch were, don't think they gone farther in north as of events on the First of the First Men. Pretty sure majority of the wildlings with Mance during the Stannis Ambush died or were captured by the rest and brought to Castle Black, so i don't think it's a wildling either :P

It is happening North of the Wall, i doubt Meera managed to carry Bran all the way through Craster's Keep to the Wall etc.

We'll see next week. I'm excited about whoever that person may be. GoT keeps me interested with every single episode :3

You need to actually know the episode to know that I am spoiling anything ;) If title was Hodor dies you would not, but as it is without knowing the episode you have no idea what hold the door refers to.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's not what I'm talking about and you do know what hold the door is referring to.

For example:

  • Looks at a thread called "Hold The Door!"
  • Reads, "contain spoilers to newest GoT episode."
  • Person now knows "Hold The Door!" is a GoT refers and knows to expect it in the episode.

You just spoiled the anticipation and if the person is smart enough, they would put "Hold The Door!" and Hodor together since the episode focuses mainly in Brans arch.

This is insane, he made the name Hodor 20 years ago already thinking in this moment. This is why i love these long stories, is exacty the same scenario that happen with Oda in One Piece many times.
Will be great to read this moment in the next book for sure :)

just a clarification - more than 20 years ago ;) In the pastline we see Eddard Stark as a young kid, we know that by the age of 8 he was sent to Jon Arryn for rising, so he must be max 7 years old. Ned died at the age of 37 (books) or 40 (TV series) and now we are 1-2 years later. So Hodor got changed 30-34 years ago ;)

Aorry - nothing against your comment, I just love overanalyzing data from works of fiction ;p

It's funny, because "hold the door" was the spoiler I read in a friends group chat without any context before I watched the latest episode.
Yet I knew immediately that it had to do something about Hodor's fate and Bran's new ability. Didn't expect him to die that soon though.

In general, I don't quite enjoy the new season as much as I hoped to. Maybe it's because I read the books before the series was even in the works, and now that they're going different ways (or do they even, we can't know for sure), it's fucking around with my expectations and ideas I had about how the books will continue - if they ever will...

/edit Fun note; I was watching it first with my friends who prefer (native) German over English, other than I. Whereas the spoiler/phrase made zero sense at first when I saw it live. I swear, I dislike people who rather watch series/movies in their native language, and don't bother missing most of the puns. Claiming, that there's no difference, while there obviously is.

@Edit: I watched english version but seen some clever translation today for polish and it can work in German as well. Bran yelling to Hodor to Stop the Horde (as horde of undeads is approaching) - in polish it was "Zatrzymaj Hordę!", I see that horde is horde in german as well - then Hodor just repeating word horde until it becomes Hodor ;)

Unfortunately in the German sync, it was "Halt das Tor", which then transformed awkwardly into "Hald da dor" and finally into "Hold the door" and "Hodor". Made me cringe.

"Stop the horde" would have translated to "Halte die Horde auf" or "Stoppe die Horde" (which sounds dumb), which would have made it even more awkward.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

not really awkward, just different approach. Hodor instead of focusing on whole sentence focus on single word Horde. Horde is similar to Hodor. It's not as nice as Hold the Door -> hodor, but still a very good translation trick - it does not change the meaning too much (after all by "Holding the Door" he was "Stopping the Horde"). Surely much nicer translation that a lot we get here in Poland which sometimes 100% change the meaningh of the scene just to be able to make a pun.

The part with Hodor was utter crap, it annoyed and distracted me only - when suddenly "looking ghost-alike into the past" turned into altering the past - just GTFO lol. http://www.techinsider.io/game-of-thrones-hodor-time-travel-physics-2016-5

tbh it was shown in previous episodes already it's not only "ghost" thing. Characters responded toBran screaming for example.

As for your linked theorethical physicist - he must be a weak physicist because he while speaking about time travelling like it is normal (which it's not) he don't even consider existence of multiverse theory (which unlike time-travel is a defined theory in physics). We can even go further. If we combine the time travel he accepts with multiverse theory that is covered - there's a known and explained paradox called Time Loop. In one of multiverse realities history happend different, but Bran actions resulted in Hodor creation anyway. Then because of this alternate multiverse action Bran ended in time loop, ended with creating Hodor whioch lead to Hpodor being ready to Hold The Door in his Universe, leading to him creating Hodor, leading to Hodor Holding the Door and so on and on, we're in the loop ;p

If it were another series i'd be fine ... and a multiverse was among my own first thoughts which made it worse - its GoT with magic, dragons, swords and whatnot trickery bullshit, but adding time travel and worse a multiverse to the plot - that's more like back to the future. Not to mention no none knows if or even how time travel could really work - just unprovable theoretical crap that suggests one could venture into the future (not past) and not to mention the like multiverse theories. Too far fetched for GoT.
