I might be complaining too much.

Are you getting annoyed by the obviously manufactured 'Thank you' on every single giveaway, which has been written the same way?

Potatoes are the real bots.
That was a horrible potato themed answer!
You complain too much, you silly peasant!
Never made a giveaway.
I used to know a guy called James!

Don't mind the thank you itself, just don't need the annoucements for it.

There should be a way to filter the messages in the inbox yeah.

Yeah. I feel obligated to say thank you (good manners and all that) but I especially appreciate when someone asks for something else instead, either a serious question or for pictures of something.

If they leave the text blank though then I'll just go for a generic thanks/thank you so giving the creator a way to filter the messages via those sort of things would be awesome.

The only thank yous I hate are the ones you don't get from the people who actually win the giveaways. :/

I won a game a few months ago and went back to the giveaway and said my thanks (the game was a key) and then the guy added me on Steam, cussed me out because he said that he didn't want any thanks spam in this giveaway thread, and then said that I was blacklisted.

I'm blacklisting people who don't thank after winning, so as you can see there's no good choice :)

Permalink

Yep. Great chances to be blacklisted either way. Better to not win giveaways.

To avoid thank you spam I often ask plain silly questions like "Tea or coffee", "Are you happy?", or "Do you dance?" in my giveaways. Funny enough most people who care to comment answer them.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I've started doing that too and it seems to help. But the amount of 'Thanks' bots are still high.

Permalink

Aah, I just checked your profile and noticed, you're doing public giveaways with no level restrictions. That's most probably the reason. It's a sad thing but a fact that people who don't care to contribute also don't care about giveaway creators and their wishes. Try putting a level restriction to your giveaways on you'll notice an immidiate change for sure.

-Tea or coffee

-Are you happy?
-Thank you!

-Do you dance?
-Thank you!

Seems legit :P

It's actually quite appropriate answer for the last question IRL. It implies that the questioner would like to danse with the asked and they exclaim their gratitude for the attention flattered while proceeding.

Yes, but only if you add some background story. I think the same goes with the second one (somebody may thank the other person for caring).

Permalink

Yep. Thought about it too. But I actually think that it's asked about dancing much oftener in those type of circumstances.

Ah, whenever I thank someone for his/her giveaway, I try to change it up a little.
And if the giveaway clearly states something else, I'll go along with that.

manufactured 'Thank you'

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, maybe that's cause I haven't created a public GA in a while.
I appreciate if someone takes the time to write a thank you in the comments, but unfortunately the most "thank you" comments are posted automatically.
I also have no problem if someone don't post anything. I often don't comment as well D:

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I get not posting, but my problem lies in people just spamming exact messages in all of your giveaways.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah and most of these people are probably using some scripts/add-ons to automatically enter GAs and automaticcally post the same comment under every entered GA

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Since the chances of winning a game are usually slim, its best to thank the person individually rather than thank everyone in every. single. giveaway.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's definetly an understandable stance, but my problem lies in the idea of people spamming the automatic responses. It feels like those people treat SG as a source of free games, a business of sorts, not a community with an extra. They don't care about people who are giving away their games. They only care about the free games. That's just my two cents though.

The problem is some people blacklist you if you don't say thank you in their giveaway.
So no wonder everybody just puts nearly identical thx-posts under every GA they join.

Personally In run the thank you filter script, because I dont want to miss postings that actually contain text or questions or whatever.
And also I ask people to not comment in giveaways I create myself :p

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

But are here more people that blacklist you cause you write a thank you comment or more that blacklist you if you don't write a comment? D:

Permalink

There's also people that ban you for writing thank you comments, because they think it was so generic they just assume you're a bot.
Well well well... to be honest, you're screwed no matter what you do. So my advice would be to just do whatever you feel like doing, you will collect bans in any way even if you really tried to please as many people as possible :D

If you look at my comments, you'll see i try REALLY hard on taking on varied ways of "Thank you" even if those are minor changes, AND i sometimes say something about the game too if i know it well enough. Overall, i'm slightly annoyed at the copy-paste "Thank you" comments but at least they say something. What i hate completely is the people that enter giveaways and don't even take a few seconds to drop a warm "thank you" or even a copy-paste one which is better than nothing. Gratitude is important dammit!
