Hey, I have been using it and I have yet to get a virus! MSE is working its magic!

Or maybe it's because I don't download stuff off random websites. Who needs an anti-virus?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

used it until I wanted to upgrade to another program, uninstalled it and it refused to uninstall.

Bottom line was, that I couldn't install any other firewall or turn on the windows firewall, because comodo wasn't uninstalled properly. It wasn't working itself and wasn't allowing for any other firewall to be installed

-999999 @ Comodo, especially since their support told me I have to buy the premium version before they will assist me with uninstalling their software.

+1 for Gimp!

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I've using Dropbox until recently, when I found Copy, it's basically the same as dropbox (plus some added neat features, like being able to share a file or folder with another user or group of users and being able to work on the file together, so when anyone makes a change to that file it automatically gets updated for the other users) and they give 20 GB (+5 GB per referred user) for free (well, actually I thing it's 15 GB for free, but if you register using a referral they give you 20 instead).

Revo Uninstaller: after removing an app removes crap left behind by the uninstaller
Tera Copy: replaces the default file copy dialog; if you copy from multiple places to one place it batches the transfers -> less fragmentation; seems to be faster than the default method in Win7
Gimp: Photoshop replacement
Inkscape: Corel Draw replacement

Oh and if you need a free/opensource alternative to something, then check out this site

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I used Tera Copy on my old XP. It was significantly faster than the default Win copy pasta. However when i migrated to Win7, I don't see any sort of difference at all.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

IMHO the main difference is that on Win7 (and maybe Vista) a copy can take minutes to even start because it "calculates time remaining". TeraCopy doesn't do that.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hmm...maybe I'll reinstall them back again and test them another round.

Edit - Was thinking about GIMP as well! :P

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Skip a file in the middle, pause file transfer. This is good enough reason for me to use it. Plus all sorts of little options, like shutting the computer down automatically so you can move a backup at night without staying up to wait for it.

Fences 2 isn't free. I have been using the original Fences off their site for two years or so, every once in a long while (weeks between) I get a popup telling me about Fences 2 but I have never paid a cent for the original. So, maybe it isn't free anymore but when I got it, it definitely was.
