It looks good. I loved how they somehow kept this project a secret right up until the week of launch.

Wouldn't be surprised if it started life as something else and EA had the devs retool it into a BR game at the last minute, especially after their bellyaching about how people are more interested in Fortnite than FIFA nowadays.

It did, its basically Titanfall 3. Good thing is that EA had no hand in the monetization of the game

Played my 1st ever game of BR last night, Apex Legends. Came 3rd. Went and played rocket league.

If anyone does think about giving it a go, i suggest playing in a 3 man pre made, not with strangers..
Wasn't bad but I barely understood what was happening and kept getting told by a stranger to pick this up, drop that, use a thing.. actually he was pretty helpful.

I think it's just too stressful for me. I'm leaning towards more and more calm and atmospheric experiences these days. And RPG's of course, always with the RPG's 😊👍

But I hear it's been praised. And the Free-to-Play surprise launch is admirable. Finding non toxic players will always be a hassle In those kind of games though. So may luck be with you !

I'll most likely pass this one up too. I'm too cozy with my:

Aye. People can argue about how much D&D has changed, and nitpick about whether or not the rules are the way they should be, but in the end, they cannot deny that it's a solid and entertaining system which scratches multiple itches.

Indeed 👍
I'll most likely leave this mortal realm - Sword in hand, and an inventory full of Rat Pelts.

I had a similar mindset, but after playing my first BR match in CS, I was hooked, even though I was really sceptical. I was under the impression this was nothing more than a gimmick, but it ended up as a really compelling and tense gameplay mechanic.
I think you should give it a go, at least once.

I'm special - I'm silly - I'm one of the very few who don't even have CS in my Steam Library.
I'll die alone - no scope.

Gameplay trailer that looks like actual legit gameplay:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kw2SpMIxtyU

At least looks like it still has Titanfall's insane on-foot movement, with the sliding, wallrunning etc. And the ability to revive lost teammates as a risk/reward mechanism looks interesting on paper.

But well, it's another Battle Royale, timed just right to undermine Battlefield V's battle royale mode which is supposedly releasing next month. (While that game is already struggling enough to see prices on physical copies slashed by 30-40%, 2 months after release). Nice to see EA take care of it's flagship franchises like that.

My thoughts exactly. Ironic that this title should get shafted with the release date once again by a Battlefield title, much like Titanfall 2 was handled back in 2016, however it's free to play this time, so probably not competing for the exact same slice of pie. Not too hot on BR myself, but as a fan of Titanfall, I am looking forward to giving it a spin. Maybe this will tide me over until Titanfall 3 drops sometime later down the line.

Well, this time around I'm guessing it'll be BFV that gets shafted. Not only is that game late to the party with it's BR mode, not only is that game struggling to bring in players, but now the same company launches a free to play alternative to it too.

Well Titan fall 2 came out the same week (i think) as BF1 and was nowhere near as popular due to that

So this all kinda funny, no?

It was released exactly one week after BF1 and one week before CoD: Infinite Warfare, and as the meat of that particular sandwich, the only one of those worth its salt.

It's got a lot of neat ideas and feels great to play. Surprisingly polished as well, even more so than Black Ops 4.

Loving the squad dynamic in this too, the fact that everyone has different abilities is a welcome spin on the formula. A scout can follow footsteps, bullet casings, used bandages, etc. to track enemies and relay that information to their squad for example. Where as the heavier classes has shields and artillery strikes.

Can definitely see myself playing more of this in the future.

Played it for a bit. This has potential. It's optimized, runs well; but also looks gorgeous on high settings.

Has unique mechanics and feels good to play.

We finally got a proper AAA BR game that is actually at AAA quality.

The Titanfall team is behind it, apparently.

Well, with all seriousness, pretty much everyone who played it agrees that CoD:BlOps4's battle royale mode is probably the best iteration they experienced, so despite Fortnite's and MYNAMEISALWAYSALLCAPSALLRIGHT's Lootboxfestgrounds' fame and player base, there still can be successful new players on this field, and EA at least bought in some talent.
It can still fail miserably, but hey, at least it is not like the Steam scene, where half of the new "battle royale" games are the 26th reposts of the UnitZ Battlegrounds Unity asset or just a random large map with supposedly working multiplayer (although some BR games are actually one large map with 12-99 bots that do not work).

Yeah, it's officially a "Titanfall spin-off". Because it's mostly Titanfall without the titans.

Just found out that this is what the Titanfall team have been working on... and not, as everyone had been anticipating, a proper sequel to Titanfall 2: https://www.vg247.com/2019/02/04/titanfall-3-isnt-development-apex-legends/

I had been eagerly anticipating TF|3 ever since the last DLC maps for TF|2 dropped, so to say this is a downer is more than an understatement. I didn't get a chance to try Apex Legends myself yet, but apparently the advanced parkour movement from the TF games has not been ported over: so aside from no Titans, that means no wallrunning, no double jumping, no slidehopping, no bunnyhopping, no airstrafing.... welp. The insane movement was Titanfall ground combat's life and soul. Unsurprisingly, the Titanfall subreddit is in a funeral mood right now.

Although the game reached 1 million unique players in under 8 hours, so it must be doing something right: https://twitter.com/vincezampella/status/1092632637716365315?s=21

It's also an Origin game (the only one?) that lets you link your Steam account to find friends, which is pretty cool.

I've played for a few hours now and I have to say it's surprisingly enjoyable. Quite an accomplished shooter overall, even if I'm not really a fan of the BR formula, but the revive and respawn mechanics here manage to keep things fresh. Most of the guns are established weapons in Titanfall, so no surprises there. The legend abilities are cool as well. The map is quite varied too, much better than that joke of a map CoD: Blackout launched with. The lootboxes show transparent droprates, which is great. And as I mentioned earlier, the only Origin game I know of that lets you link your Steam account to find friends. I can see this one being a deserved success.

Wow, 10 million unique users and over 1 million concurrent players in less than 72 hours, that is quite the achievement: https://www.ea.com/games/apex-legends/news/apex-legends-10-million-players)

Never thought I'd say it but I'm actually hooked on this game now. They have a highly functional, intuitive pinging system in place which enables quick and accurate communication without voice comms, it's brilliant and makes me wonder why no other game did this to date. I urge everyone to give this a chance - if you like PVP or FPSes in general, chances are you'll like it.

Yeah, they're off to a good start. Especially for something that was mostly kept in the dark before release.

Still, first week initial rush doesn't say all that much. Not for F2P games. But if they can keep up the 1 mil concurrent players for the first 2-3 months, they're probably in good shape. And if it keeps growing, they'll be doing really well.

Still going strong: 25 million unique and over 2 million concurrent players after one week

Still really enjoying this, and fingers crossed it can ride out the momentum to stable and sustained growth.

It seems kinda cool, for some reason i hated the character designs (not their skills, their identity) but then i hate most character designs. Even Overwatch- they all feel like generic 'popular things randomly glued together' and too noisy, like random weekend character design from deviant art. I would get so much more into it with actual inspiration- the level of TF2, from software, kojima or nintendo... heck, there it is- all that is left now is some BR or hero shooter nintendo style. Sadly if it happens it will be for switch, not pc ¬¬

I think this will be the first BR i will give a proper go (try to). But dammit, im still waiting for a proper Battle Royale- you know, one where people (or schoolkids) are fighting with knives and axes and bloody all over. The moment player unknow looked at Battle Royale and tought 'you know what would be exciting? If everyone were sitting their asses on bushes with snipers' someone somewhere turned in their grave. Had to. Its like the worst spin one could do to the idea, not even hunger games went that far.
