Nether Ressurected. Abandoned?

So a friend of mine just requested a refund (steam gift in inventory, unplayed) because no progress seems to have been made since the "resurrected" announcement back in November 2015. It seemed to be a very promissing game. From the little I know, seems like it had a lot of trouble with different devs (normal -> p2w -> normal = abandoned?)... It also left early-access when it's clearly not ready, which is actually the trigger for my friend refunding it. Any thoughts?

I actually bought the game during winter. Played for a couple of hours, seems pretty much dead to me. I haven't played the game since.
