How long after creating a new Steam account would I have to wait before I can use my PayPal (or Visa card) to buy games to gift to my main profile? I STILL can't buy on my main (I get "This payment method is currently unavailable for use. We are working to resolve the issue. Please select another payment method for your purchase and try again." or "There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance.") so I thought I MIGHT be able to make a new account, buy the games, then gift...

Good idea? Or bad?

Is this a good idea? Could it work?

Yep, could/should work, go for it
No, bad idea, you'll have trouble carrying out your nefarious plan

I made an extra account when Steam was being a ***** after buying stuff on price error, still couldn't make purchases that way. Don't think it will work for you.

Weird...how long did you have to wait? Or was it an IP thing or whatever?

No clue why I couldn't buy, but the new account couldn't spend a cent. When they tell you your money is no good, switching accounts doesn't work. :(

What about a steam wallet card if you can't use your visa or PayPal?

My Steam Wallet is frozen...I added funds from my missus' credit card and Steam are making me wait 6 or 6 days because they reckon it's an "unverified card" or something :(

Same here, when I got that purchase ban thingie I told you the other day they locked both the account and IP. Resolved itself in 6 days without support's intervention(yeah I did a lot of retries before I learnt that failed attempt = +1 hour lock). So unless you make a new account at some other location, from a different pc or hide it behind proxies I don't think you'll get anywhere

Best solution imo is have a friend buy you what you want and pay them back either via paypal or when your account issues get resolved

Weird thing is, my missus' 15 year old son bought the Metro bundle with his mum's card (with her permission of course) with no trouble...and he was sitting right beside me :/

So there's your solution.
Have the kid buy you everything :P

Or maybe log in on his laptop...

The REALLY stupid thing is, they let me add $5 from my own card, successfully, but won't let me spend it OR shop direct from my card/PayPal

if you are really desperate to get some games, you could buy tf2/dota/csgo keys from trustable people in 3rd party sites, then trade them for the titles you want. or just buy those games from them using paypal.

there's always the risk of getting scammed when buying stuff with paypal though, so you should be careful and review the trader's rep.

I've actually had someone already offer to do that for me, buy the games and I send them the money by PayPal...might take them up on it if I spot a Flash Sale or if I'm still having trouble at the end of the sale
