SOLUTION

  1. The quote referred to Ernest Hemingway, and the "number of toes" hint referred to an unusual trait of a special cat in his care. Ernest Hemingway was given a white six-toed cat and some of the cats who live on Hemingway museum grounds now are descendants of that original cat, named Snowball.
  2. This question proved to be quite difficult for many people. But, as usual, it was possible to answer it without knowing anything about this particular musical piece. If you googled together multiple key words from the question (for example, waltz, polka, march, dogs, cats, pigs) this would lead to a Wikipedia article about the song. Multiple answers were acceptable for this question - I tried to incorporate as many variants of the title as possible (Cat's Polka being one of them).
  3. This question referred to the famous "Shrödinger's Cat" thought experiment by Erwin Schrödinger that involved a box, a vial of poison and a cat in a superimposed state.
  4. "Some go this way, and some go that way. But as for me, myself, personally, I prefer the short-cut," said the smiling Cheshire Cat :)
  5. Who could forget the wacky Felix the Cat?
  6. This question referred to Garfield! As he used to say "I'm not over-weight, I'm under-tall."
  7. Everybody loves Maru!
  8. Another difficult one. People were probably stumped because the cat in this question did not refer to an animal, but to a person with a 'feline' name. The quote was taken directly from a scene in a movie starring Honor Blackman as Pussy Galore.
  9. And another fake 'cat'! This question was referring to Caterpillar Inc., a company that specialises in heavy machinery and has also sponsored Ward Burton, Scott Wimmer, Dave Blaney, and Jeff Burton in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

The prize for solving the quiz was the wonderful Petz Catz 2 game!

Hope you enjoyed the puzzle!

Original post:

Hello and welcome, my feline brothers and sisters!

Do you remember our fight against the evil dogs two weeks ago? Thanks to Corporal Mrow we were victorious, we got our gifts back, enjoyed our catnip, and those filthy dogs ran away squealing, tails tucked between their legs. But the war is not over yet! The dogs are back, and they are after our strategic tuna reserves.

Assume the role of the brave Corporal Mrow once again! Save our tuna from the dogs and kick their furry bottoms!
